I like this family but I can’t help but wince when I see a plate full of biscuits on their foot rest surrounded by feet encased in trainers.

AIBU to think they should TAKE THEM OFF!

Sorry.

I suppose it matters what circles you mix in

Nice attempt at a dig there, but thankfully I am not particularly worried about the opinion of the aspirational middle classes trying to prove they belong.

You may not be so clear about your expectations but "Shoes on or bugger off" is what it comes down to.

PyongyangKipperbang · 21/11/2018 01:13

"SHoes off or bugger off" obviously.......

NaiceShoes · 21/11/2018 01:14

Do you also offer surgical gloves for shitty, dirty hands? They touch your cups you know.

Oh do behave!

The thing is people that are aware of germs will wash their hands before touching anything that will go into their mouths.

God I couldn't think of anything worse than to be middle class, aspirational or otherwise - I just like clean and disagree with you Smile

I think people who take their shoes off inside are disgusting and revolting and as for asking visitors to take their shoes off that is really disgusting and foul.
For those who say that people’s shoes will be covered with dog shit, sick and spit. Has no one ever heard of or knows how to use a doormat. Or used their eyes to see what they may be stepping in.
We have wooden floors throughout our downstairs except in the kitchen and that has ceramic tiles

I am pretty dog poo-phobic and keep my eyes peeled all the time when I walk outside. I mainly drive from A to B and barely walk. I stepped in dog poo yesterday and couldn't understand how I had done it (I noticed a lovely shoe-shaped dog poo mark on my friend's shop floor, and I inspected my shoes and was mortified to find that it was me). From wracking my brain I think when I stepped out of my car there must have been dog poo there, because I have my eyes peeled all the time.

So I am somebody who barely walks places and when I do I look out for dog poo all the time. Your house must be riddled with it because you're not even bothered about it so won't be looking out for it. FWIW I felt sorry for my friend that his door mat would have dog poo because I had wiped my feet before I walked in (and still left him with a lovely dog poo footprint). Eeeewwwww! DISGUSTING

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2018 01:30

That's super Blue, it was you that first uttered the phrase 'rudely demand' though. I was merely wondering how those 'rude demands' may actually play out in reality. I've never rudely demanded to keep my shoes on as I've never been asked to take them off. If I was, I would politely comply whilst bring slightly irritated.

I'm not a monster.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2018 01:34

Naice I walk a great deal and I think I last stepped in dogshit at about the age of seven. It's not that hard to avoid. Do public buildings or workplaces stink of dogshit because of the massive cakes of it on the shoes of the filthy beasts that pound the pavements and then walk indoors?

Probably not.

NaiceShoes · 21/11/2018 01:44

Ilikeyourhairyhands you think you last stepped in it aged seven. I doubt it. It didn't smell when I stepped it into my friend's shop. I'd love to analyse your carpet/floors. Lots of lovely flora there, no doubt Wink.

liverbird10 · 21/11/2018 01:54

Rockyoursocksoff - simply turn off your tv.

You're welcome.

tildaMa · 21/11/2018 01:59

@ILikeyourHairyHands unless you're being carried around in a sedan chair and never touch the ground outside your house, you step in a lot of digusting stuff that you don't even notice.
It's not just dog poo. It's dog wee, vomit, rubbish juice from leaky bags, decomposing discarded food, car oil, petrol and antifreeze, everything mixed with a bit of muddy rainwater into a lovely wet paste and rubbed into the streets and sidewalks.

treaclesoda · 21/11/2018 02:01

we as children were brought up to take shoes off as soon as we went to someone's house - just part of good manners such as saying please and thankyou etc

Whereas I was taught that it was part of good manners, along with please and thank you, to keep my shoes on, and that it's incredibly rude to take them off in someone else's house.

If I went to someone's house and they asked me to take them off I would happily do so, but if they didn't actually tell me it wouldn't occur to me to do it. And it's not because I have no manners, but because I'm following what I was taught.

I've never been in a shoes off house though.

e1y1 · 21/11/2018 02:24

Yanbu completely agree with you, wearing outdoor footwear in the house, and worse up on furniture is beyond grim!

But have a feeling (as supported by the repsonses) a lot won't agree with you and each to their own and all that.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 21/11/2018 02:42

All you people who don't like feet better not come to Western Australia. People here wear flip-flops thongs everywhere, including weddings, and many bogans don't even bother with that and just go bare foot everywhere. My local shopping centre has signs up saying you can't come in with no shoes or thongs, but plenty do! I don't think I've ever seen people wearing shoes inside their house here, no need for socks most of the time either.

QueenOfIce · 21/11/2018 03:14

Yanbu, shoes off policy in this house I don't want your dirty shoes trampled through my carpets. Never had a complaint and I always provide slippers pinched from hotels Grin---- It's weird for me seeing families sitting at home relaxing with their feet up and shoes on. Shoes are for going outside!

Italiangreyhound · 21/11/2018 03:37

I always think this when I watch it too...

Rachelover40 · 21/11/2018 04:18

They should take their shoes off. Maybe they do when they are not on telly, perhaps they think it 'looks better' to have shoes on. Well it doesn't! No-one wears shoes indoors, they either have their slippers or just socks. Unless they are having a dinner party in which case everyone is in heels (except blokes though they might). Family take shoes off for informal gatherings.

tildaMa · 21/11/2018 04:35

If I wanted to entertain formally, I'd make sure to have a separate dinner room with easily moppable floor there and other "public" parts of the house. Then guests could wear their shoes when visiting. Would probably invest in a steam cleaner too.

But I don't really entertain at home, informal visits only, also carpets all over the place so shoes off because I don't want street muck on them.

mypoosmellsofroses · 21/11/2018 06:04

Shoes on, visitor with shoes on and dogs..in a nice house. The Horror!

toomuchtooold · 21/11/2018 06:07

what delights would you have for a dinner guest who failed to pack their foldable slippers

My in-laws have guest slippers Envy (not envy). They usually come to ours ,Grin

EdisonLightBulb · 21/11/2018 06:43

My mum and dad bring their slippers to my house.

Saying that the Manchester family's shoes bother me less than when they have all their huge dogs in the living room, there's about five of them. All I think is I bet their house smells of dog.

I really like them as a family, the dad never looks happy and the mum is long suffering.

They are just a normal, real life family, like all the Gogglebox families.

Antigon · 21/11/2018 06:46

As for traipsing street muck (dirt, spit, dog wee and poo)across your carpets and flooring - ugh 🤮. What's wrong with changing into slippers or slipper socks indoors?

This ^^

saganorenscarandcoat · 21/11/2018 07:20

Love them, love their treat plate and especially love Dave

NerrSnerr · 21/11/2018 07:28

They should take their shoes off.

They should do what they want in their own house.

Hunlife · 21/11/2018 07:34

I love Dave the dog (spectacularly misses point of thread)

PumpkinKitty82 · 21/11/2018 07:39

Ugh , I take my shoes off as soon as I get in, so does everyone else .
Why would you want all the crud from outiside on your carpets / floors ?
Gross ., especially if you have kids
