I like this family but I can’t help but wince when I see a plate full of biscuits on their foot rest surrounded by feet encased in trainers.

AIBU to think they should TAKE THEM OFF!

Sorry.

Jeeze, I was shocked for a mo! Thank god Daves ok. RIP Frank 😔

BakedBeans47 · 20/11/2018 23:57

I love the Malones! But yes the shoe thing next to the plates of biscuits is a bit ick

LadyPamplemousse · 20/11/2018 23:57

(that was to the poor delicate posters 'bleughhing' at houses that they'll never have to set their cottoned sock feet in)

PyongyangKipperbang · 21/11/2018 00:00

Dogs in a house are far more disgusting than shoes.

hamblehumpty · 21/11/2018 00:01

Nobody needs to 'walk barefoot' - I couldn't think of anything worse and hate bare feet on my floors - all that dry skin on heels - bah!

In the main I find people wear socks? Crazy as it sounds - otherwise I'm happy to had them a pair of disposable slippers/socks.

Tartyflette · 21/11/2018 00:04

what’s wrong with a lovely tartan, soft lined slipper?
Hmm, where to start...

Prestonsflowers · 21/11/2018 00:06

I think people who take their shoes off inside are disgusting and revolting and as for asking visitors to take their shoes off that is really disgusting and foul.
For those who say that people’s shoes will be covered with dog shit, sick and spit. Has no one ever heard of or knows how to use a doormat. Or used their eyes to see what they may be stepping in.
We have wooden floors throughout our downstairs except in the kitchen and that has ceramic tiles
I’m so glad that Dave is not dead

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2018 00:11

So, no vomity, shitty, spitty shoes and also no horrid bare feet.

Do you also offer surgical gloves for shitty, dirty hands? They touch your cups you know.

And their mouths, which may have had other people's genitals in, PUT YOUR FUCKING FORKS IN THEM.

Shoes are the least of your worries.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/11/2018 00:12

"I think people who take their shoes off inside are disgusting and revolting"

Seriously? Hmm Get over yourself.
Why? My socks and slippers are clean, my shoes aren't.

The weather today has been foul. Anyone who doesn't take their outdoor footwear off in my house is inconsiderate. But we have carpets.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2018 00:15

Yes or they can bring slippers, how very magnanimous of you.

Bluedish · 21/11/2018 00:15

Grin Grin gutted for my whole family, disgusting revolting family that we are!

LoniceraJaponica · 21/11/2018 00:16

I never ask people to remove their shoes. They just do because it is the done thing around here.

Bluedish · 21/11/2018 00:17

Hmm it's one of many options available, some people do prefer bringing their own, mil for one carries a pair of foldaway slippers in her bag everywhere.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2018 00:19

And the other options Blue, what delights would you have for a dinner guest who failed to pack their foldable slippers?

Oh behave - as my mam would say you're obviously common as muck if you equate taking shoes off indoors and asking (rude) visitors to remove their shoes 'disgusting and foul'

You keep tramping poo, wee, spit and numerous other monstrosities through your house - I'll keep on being clean Smile

AlbertWinestein · 21/11/2018 00:21

I watched the Celeb one and was far more revolted by Danny Dyers bare feet waving at the screen. I hate feet. 🤢

Bluedish · 21/11/2018 00:23

Hmm no ones ever been rude enough to demand to come into my house with shoes, when I've explained why, it's part of my culture that I was brought up in. They could borrow any of my inside shoes, be in socks, I have a couple of overshoes for the occasional workman, but most people I know kick off shoes without being asked.

AlbertWinestein · 21/11/2018 00:25

I personally couldn’t care either way. We always take our shoes off if they’re actually dirty ie you can see it. The bit I don’t get about the “no shoes in the house” debate is when people invite others round for dinner or a party when people get a bit more dressed up, and then expect them
to take their lovely shoes off. That’s weird.

StoneofDestiny · 21/11/2018 00:26

Never watch the programme but wearing shoes inside is weird to me - surely your feet need a break from the same socks/tights/shoes they've been in all day?
As for traipsing street muck (dirt, spit, dog wee and poo)across your carpets and flooring - ugh 🤮. What's wrong with changing into slippers or slipper socks indoors?

PyongyangKipperbang · 21/11/2018 00:32

I take my shoes off indoors, most people do when at home at some point, even in "shoes on" homes. We are half and half, we generally go barefoot for comfort and no one gets yelled at for keeping their shoes on. But I would never ever refuse entry to someone who didnt want to go shoeless. That is the height of rudeness and far far ruder than the person who didnt offer.

If I was told "Shoes off or dont come in" then I would cheerfully leave as I wouldnt want to spend time with such a rude person.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2018 00:34

So Blue tell me about your culture that rudely demands visitors remove part of their outfit or demands an elderly person faff about with slippers. I've never demanded to enter a house with my shoes on as I've never been asked to remove them in the UK.

I do know that in Scandinavia or SE Asia shoes inside are not a thing.

Could you not be flexible as a decent hostess is?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/11/2018 00:35

I'm bare-footed at the moment in the interests of full disclosure. And if a guest in my house chose to be bare-footed that would also be absolutely fine.

Katedotness1963 · 21/11/2018 00:43

I’m not bothered about shoes in the house. Seeing their shoes up on the table by the plate, and the dogs sniffing about, really puts me off having a cherry bakewell!

Bluedish · 21/11/2018 00:58

So Blue tell me about your culture that rudely demands visitors remove part of their outfit or demands an elderly person faff about with slippers.
Its not my culture to rudely demand anything, your making this out to be something its not, my family is originally from Korea, its something we've always done even when my parents moved to the UK its something I grew up and it's something I will always do in my house, I ask politely, I have plenty of alternatives, no one has ever been offended.

I've never had a dinner party, my small group of friends have never had a problem with it, they would tell me if they did, but most of them (British) also do the same so I'm not alone in this and clearly some UK houses do.
My hallway is set up with seats, shoehorn, rack for slippers, also have some overshoes. I'm not asking people to hop around putting them on.

You can think thats rude and snipe about rude demanding cultures and being magnanimous but I know how I go about and with thr people that I have over it is not. That might not work for everyone, if they have lots of people around or lots of elderly people, but it works for me, the only elderly people who really come are pil who also have a shoe free house, so yes she comes with the slippers that she permentantly has in her bag.

hamblehumpty · 21/11/2018 01:05

If I was told "Shoes off or dont come in" then I would cheerfully leave as I wouldnt want to spend time with such a rude person

I'm not so rude I would phrase it like that - I was brought up with manners thankfully - The majority of my friends would automatically take their shoes off as it would be considered rude and unhygienic not to- I suppose it matters what circles you mix in - I wouldn't dream of keeping on my outdoor shoes (germ laden with spit, vomit and faeces yes)

Absolutely amazed that anyone wouldn't!
