To expect neighbours to come and collect their missed parcels?

One of our neighbours orders a lot of stuff online (fair enough, so do we) however, they are out all day at work (again, fair enough) DP works shifts so is often around in the mornings when post/ parcels are being delivered. They always ask us to sign for them and then they pop a note through their door.

However, every bloody time they never come over to collect, we always have to bring their parcels round to them. Ive just arrived home from work, DP is at work and obviously signed for some parcels for said neighbours as there are 4 (quite big) boxes here and an ASOS bag.

WIBU to not go back out again tonight in the pissing rain and cold and just wait to see if they bother to come and collect?

AIBU? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind popping people's missed post round on the odd occasion but I’m not bloody Royal Mail and I’m inclined to think if it’s your parcel, it’s your responsibility to collect?

It’s taking up a lot of space in the hallway too

Don't bother going round there. Just stick the parcel in a corner somewhere and wait for them to come to you. You're causing the problem by taking the things round to theirs - don't!

Yes it has become an expectation . I work from home my annoyance is for people who work f/t there are collection points for most parcels .

Elise- we waited 4 days once, they weren’t on holiday, were coming and going all the time etc and after 4 days DP was like ‘FFS, is there stuff STILL taking up space in this house’ so I went round and dropped them off. I’m beginning to think that they think this is just what I’ll do now, CFers!!

I go and collect my parcels, if I know which neighbour it's been delivered to and if I can tell they are home.
Sometimes, I don't get chance as the neighbour sees me and brings them over as I'm reversing my car in.

I also deliver my neighbours parcels when they come to me, if I see them arriving home or they are home before me
Or I forget we have them and they need to call and collect. Depends what I'm doing when I get in.

Protocol where I live is that whoever accepts the parcel takes it around to the neighbour. Maybe that's what they're used to?

Only none of the couriers or the postman round here actually put a slip through my door to tell me they’ve delivered and where they are.

I had to apologise to one my my neighbours recently - she’d had 6 parcels for me for about a week that I had no idea had been delivered to her. They had really long delivery dates and I hadn’t expected them to have arrived so quickly and I’d had no card.

Don't take their parcels in any more. You are not obliged to.

When the courier/mail person knocks, refuse to accept.

Don't take round the existing parcels - leave them until they come round. Put them in a spare room or the shed if they're taking up space.

If the neighbour says anything, suggest to them that they have parcels delivered to another address (not yours, obvs) or delivered to their place of work.

When/if they come and collect explain that a few times it's been big things and they get in the way and you'll have to start saying no to the postie/courier if they don't come and get them the same day. Make it clear to them,you're doing them a favour don't let them use you and not appreciate it.

I wouldn't go out tonight but tomorrow I'd bring them round and say "Hey, these cane yesterday, we have no problem taking parcels but you'll need to pop around before 7pm on the day it's delivered" if they have a problem with that just stop signing

I wouldn't go out of my way to drop it off.. e.g leave the house once ur home, but if it's not been collected I would consider dropping it on my way to the car when I'm goin out next if it's in the way. Alternatively, don't deliver it, wait for them to collect it and make a point of saying in a light hearted way oh iv had this for days, was starting to wonder if u didn't want it anymore haha.

Take the last few round, for the sake of the peace, but then refuse to take them from the courier. You are under zero obligation to do so. Other people's parcels are not your problem, and shouldn't be taking up your house space, or brain space.

I only accept parcels for my immediate neighbours that I know and talk to. They do same for us.

Yesterday I was asked to take in a parcel for house across the street and down a bit. No idea who lives there so didn't want to accept. Courier was most put out.

Do you even know these neighbours? If not refuse to accept it. A few trips to the sorting office will make them appreciate you and wish they'd been more helpful with timely collection.

Did a card definitely get put through their door? My neighbour had one of my parcels for ages because the courier didn't leave a card so I had no idea it was at her house and every time she knocked to give it to me, I was out. She thought I'd eventually knock on her door once I was available but three weeks later.... She eventually managed to let me know she had it when we bumped into each other at the school parents evening.

Like pp said - are you sure they know about them? I've stopped taking parcels from one courier here as they are shit at leaving cards. Either they don't at all, or they don't legibly write the number so the neighbours have no chance of knowing where their parcel is.

I had a neighbour like this once, so i just stopped taking them in. i think its rude not to collect.
