Potty training 2.5 yr old Dd. I hate the word ‘panties’ but ‘knickers’ seems age-inappropriate and ‘underwear’ too generic. Are there any better words out there?

Culotte!

RiverTam · 19/11/2018 21:41

Pants, knickers or undies.

If anyone used panties in my house they would be forever banished.

Lovingbenidorm · 19/11/2018 21:41

Pantaloons

cunningartificer · 19/11/2018 21:42

Underpantens. Or undercrackers.

Lovingbenidorm · 19/11/2018 21:42

Grundies

DorothyLNaySayers · 19/11/2018 21:43

Panties is not sexual! It’s the opposite of sexual! Shock it just means smaller pants.

‘Underpants’ is the best suggestion so far, though.

What do you people who use ‘pants’ for underwear use to refer to ‘generic apparel that you put on your legs’ if you’re not calling them pants, though? Are you specific about the the type of apparel each time?

Baffled why knickers would be inappropriate at any age Confused

Unless that's all you are wearing to work, what's the problem?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 19/11/2018 21:44

Knickers or pants. Or skids (DS is 18 though, didn't call them that when he was little).

DH refers to mine as 'harvest festivals' Hmm

redandwhite1 · 19/11/2018 21:44

Panties do not mean smaller pants! IMO

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 19/11/2018 21:44

In my bit of the UK, pants for boys and knickers for girls. I’ve heard kecks as well, but it seems like slang and a bit crude. Never panties or, just as bad, briefs.

ShatnersBassoon · 19/11/2018 21:44

Knickers for everyone, and this certainly isn't a tee-hee kind of residence.

donquixotedelamancha · 19/11/2018 21:44

In our household, we do not discuss the garments which lie beneath one's outer clothing. If referring to them absolutely cannot be avoided, we say 'unmentionables', followed by 15 Hail Marys.

GreenDinosaur · 19/11/2018 21:44

Erm, trousers go on your legs.

This thread is weird!

PookieDo · 19/11/2018 21:44

Pants
Knickers
And the one that stuck - knick knocks 😂

DappledThings · 19/11/2018 21:45

Trousers or leggings. No need to be any more specific that I've ever had!

anniehm · 19/11/2018 21:45

Pants or knickers, never used the word panties ever

ShatnersBassoon · 19/11/2018 21:45

Trousers.
Or if I need to be more specific: leggings, tracksuit trousers, jeans.

Sowhatifidosnore · 19/11/2018 21:46

Pants, knicks, knickers

RiverTam · 19/11/2018 21:46

Jeans, trousers, leggings.

No different to saying jumper, t shirt or blouse.

adaline · 19/11/2018 21:46

Trousers go on your legs!

And the word panties gives me the heebie jeebies .

Pebblespony · 19/11/2018 21:47

South of Ireland here. We use pants for trousers.

Lovingbenidorm · 19/11/2018 21:47

Skiddies

clowdyweewee · 19/11/2018 21:47

I don't know why, but if a boy referred to his pants as 'knickers', I'd feel a bit sick.
As a child, my sister and I wore 'drawers' and our brother wore pants.

Escolar · 19/11/2018 21:47

Pants here.

Apparel on legs - trousers / jeans / leggings.
