Potty training 2.5 yr old Dd. I hate the word ‘panties’ but ‘knickers’ seems age-inappropriate and ‘underwear’ too generic. Are there any better words out there?

Pants.

Panties and knickers sound really pervy to me.

Satchell · 19/11/2018 21:19

Knicky knacky noos for some reason!

allhdghd · 19/11/2018 21:19

Well we call them pants, because they are pants.

BroomstickOfLove · 19/11/2018 21:19

Knickers for girls, pants for everyone.

twentytimes · 19/11/2018 21:19

Just call it underwear.
Knickers seem's inappropriate to me too, I would use it talking about my underwear to DP but not to anyone else or to describe any child's underwear.

Deadringer · 19/11/2018 21:19

Pants.

Meralia · 19/11/2018 21:19

Knickers is fine.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 19/11/2018 21:19

Pants all round here. Intrigued by brooks!

SaucyJack · 19/11/2018 21:19

Pants!

Panties is horrible.

AtSea1979 · 19/11/2018 21:19

Nick nacks for DD, crackers for DS

Polkapjs · 19/11/2018 21:20

Knickers for me. Underpants and now boxers for the children. One child tried to call them panties in the same way he called PJs jarmies but I recoiled in horror. Panties is vile. Nowt wrong with pants or knickers

Meralia · 19/11/2018 21:20

How is the word knickers pervy? It is what they are!

festivedramallama · 19/11/2018 21:20

Pants grundies or kecks

honeylulu · 19/11/2018 21:20

I have to say until I joined mumsnet , I had no idea panties was a pornified word. I'm sure people said it when I was a child but it seemed innocent , possibly a bit cutesy/twee/ American.

SecondTimeCharm · 19/11/2018 21:21

knickers or pants here too.

are you american OP? cos i’ve genuinely never known anyone say ‘panties’

Longtalljosie · 19/11/2018 21:21

Are you American?

Lovingbenidorm · 19/11/2018 21:21

We all wear pants in this house, old, young, male or female it’s PANTS

Longtalljosie · 19/11/2018 21:21

Cross-post!

BroomstickOfLove · 19/11/2018 21:21

I'm also intrigued by "knickers" as a word inappropriate for young children. I wonder if there regional differences.

ASauvignonADay · 19/11/2018 21:21

Knickers or pants

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 19/11/2018 21:21

Why wouldn’t you just call them pants? We just say pants, doesn’t matter whose, they’re all pants.

DorothyLNaySayers · 19/11/2018 21:22

Pants is a generic word for jeans/leggings/treggings/whatever in this house. Pants are outerwear, not underwear.

I have absolutely no idea why knickers is age-inappropriate in my head. It sounds slightly teeheehee maybe. Not an actual real word anyway.

MinnieMannie · 19/11/2018 21:23

What's wrong with plain ordinary 'Pants', personally I like to say 'knickers' made my little dsis laugh when she was little. Underwear is fine too. Don't over think it.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 19/11/2018 21:23

I think it’s a regional thing. Bit like how fanny is acceptable for children to say in some places but really rude in others.

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 19/11/2018 21:23

Are you American OP?
