Potty training 2.5 yr old Dd. I hate the word ‘panties’ but ‘knickers’ seems age-inappropriate and ‘underwear’ too generic. Are there any better words out there?

This thread is so weird Grin

Trousers!

PerverseConverse · 19/11/2018 21:47

Jeeeeez.
Some perv out there will be loving this Hmm

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/11/2018 21:47

Pants are trousers , knickers or panties you wear underneath.

reallyanotherone · 19/11/2018 21:47

What do you people who use ‘pants’ for underwear use to refer to ‘generic apparel that you put on your legs’ if you’re not calling them pants, though? Are you specific about the the type of apparel each time?

Pants cover your bum. You put trousers over your pants to cover your legs.

Only americans use pants to refer to trousers.

I had an american relative once join us for dinner and as she sat down she announced her “pants were too tight”.

Hours of laughter and piss taking.

ghostsandghoulies · 19/11/2018 21:48

Bottoms cover skirt to jeans to joggers

Knickers for girls and pants for boys here.

PippilottaLongstocking · 19/11/2018 21:48

Pants/underwear/underpants
Boxers or knickers but those are more specific styles

Outerwear is trousers/jeans (although jeans can also be called trousers but trousers covers more styles than just jeans) or leggings are just called leggings and tights are just called tights

DowntonCrabby · 19/11/2018 21:48

We use pants for adults, boys and girls.

Knickers would be fine too and a lot less inappropriate than “panties”

Howdoyoudoit31 · 19/11/2018 21:48

Pants Hmm

Trousers/bottoms - don't really need to talk about them much tbh - get yer clothes on/where are your trousers/your jeans are in the wash.

Pants as outerwear is something I associate with the US.

Panties is gross.

PippilottaLongstocking · 19/11/2018 21:49

Or bottoms which in my mind covers anything that’s worn on your lower half

Lovingbenidorm · 19/11/2018 21:49

Been following and read everything.............
ITS PANTS!!!!!!

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/11/2018 21:49

Sorry to burst your London centric bubble but pants is regional in the UK.

BringOnTheScience · 19/11/2018 21:49

OP - guessing that you're not Briitsh?

Pants as trousers tends to be an Americaism. Eg Hillary Clinton wears oant suits. In the Uk, they're trousers.

Underpants are boys' and mens' undies in the UK. Girls do not wear underpants.

Panties also tends to be an Americanism. Girls & women wear pants or knickers.

Pantyhose are tights in the UK.

Sassypants82 · 19/11/2018 21:51

Pants for everyone.

PipGoesPop · 19/11/2018 21:51

Knickers. I really want to say 'end of' but I would never say that and I would also look likean utter twat.

Pants. If you're from US/NZ/OZ you're wrong. It's trousers. Not pants.

Panties is vile.

Knickers.

00100001 · 19/11/2018 21:51

you have plethora of words to choose from

knickers
pants
undies
underpants
underoos
kecks
knick knocks
briefs
britches

why the scandal over knickers though?? Confused

triwarrior · 19/11/2018 21:52

Knickers and underpants. (Though undercrackers makes me smile!)

DanielRicciardosSmile · 19/11/2018 21:53

Everyone has pants in our house - mum, dad and child.

triwarrior · 19/11/2018 21:53

I'm from the north and it's underpants for underwear and pants for any leg wear that isn't jeans.

00100001 · 19/11/2018 21:53

generic terms?

Anythng covering bottom half - is called bottoms
Anything covering top half - is called tops

itsjustmebeingme · 19/11/2018 21:54

I have two girls (2,5) and we say...

Pants (or stinky pants)
Knickers
knick knacks
Knicky knacky noo noos
Undercrackers (they find this hilarious)
Etc...

But not panties as i just associate that word with more sexy underwear....although DD1 has called them pantie wantie woo woos before!

DorothyLNaySayers · 19/11/2018 21:55

Trousers are a specific type of apparel for legs, though. Usually tailored and/or of a certain material. Neither leggings nor jeans could be referred to as trousers in this household.

And could all the perv comments just fuck off please? This is about linguistics and regional differences, so take your perviness elsewhere.

We say big boy pants... but he is two and just potty training, that will change to just pants when the novelty wears off.

Girls is knickers... my mum has always referred to this as Knick Knacks though. She refers to them as Knick Knacks for son too strangely

VeraVinegarTits · 19/11/2018 21:56

Pants for boys, knickers for girls

callymarch · 19/11/2018 21:56

pants or undies. I thought it was only in America that pants were not underwear
