Potty training 2.5 yr old Dd. I hate the word ‘panties’ but ‘knickers’ seems age-inappropriate and ‘underwear’ too generic. Are there any better words out there?

RAF family here, boys and mens undies are called shreddies. No I don't know why they are called that!

That's interesting, my father called his pants shreddies and he was ex-RN.

My ex was also ex-RN and he used to refer to my big pants as "Faslane awnings", but could never explain why.

I've always called boy's underpants and girl's knickers... I've never heard anyone think the word knickers is age inappropriate Hmm... panties on the other hand makes me feel 'ick' coming out of anyone's mouth but especially a small child's.

Onemorefireball · 20/11/2018 17:51

Pants for everyone, regardles of age or sex.

OneStepSideways · 20/11/2018 17:51

Knickers! Pants are trousers nowadays!

Buster72 · 20/11/2018 17:56

Under crackers....
Just wondered why "panties" is so reviled it's the word I grew up with.
In other countries pants indicates trousers

HicDraconis · 20/11/2018 17:57

In NZ and pants are outer wear!

Underwear for boys is boxers, for girls is knickers (or knickerbocker glories... long story) or generically for either is “undies”.

This is my favourite undie related children's book. www.booktopia.com.au/the-terrible-underpants-kaz-cooke/prod9780140568820.html

Pants mostly, undies when I ask them to get them off the line so that they bring the socks in as well.

dhisannoying · 20/11/2018 19:32

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 20/11/2018 23:00

Panties or underwear, but I'm American, in America Pants are Trousers.

caroloro · 20/11/2018 23:16

Pants. Knickers. Knicker knockers. Pantaloonies. Knick knicks. Knicker knacker noonies. Bloomers. Any of these! But most often pants.

bellabasset · 20/11/2018 23:27

Underpants covers it really.

As a yiung child my dh thought knickers was a rude word so it became a habit and that's what was used in our house. I can always hear Ken Dodd' s voice with knicky knocky noos!

Wilma89 · 20/11/2018 23:32

I keep accidentally referring to all sorts of underwear as “panties” to my boyfriends great displeasure Grin
English isn’t my first language and I’ve been corrected multiple times but now the cringing look on his face is too satisfying for me to stop. Moahaha

icouldbewrongicouldberight · 20/11/2018 23:37

Knickers knackers noos. Or pants.
