And invite you to join me?
What are you brilliant at, nothing is too trivial.
What can you do exceptionally well?

I make very good gravy! Don't know why because my cooking isn't good but my gravy and sauces always come out well Confused

Oh Xenia, just reading back. I can play music by ear? I can just play it when I hear it? I know my brother couldn't do it, but my dd can. To me it's just simple, you play the notes you hear? My brother can't understand that, he needs to see the notes written down. It's just something I can do.

exWifebeginsat40 · 18/11/2018 10:09

i know ALL the songs, and can identify them within about 3 seconds of the intro.

i am therefore someone you want on your team in a pub quiz. i know odd facts as well, and won £300 over 2 weeks at the quiz at the local. the Serious Quizzers were FURIOUS.

also hoovering.

Xenia · 18/11/2018 10:13

Music is certainly an intersesting one. In scanning my 80s and 90s diaries recently I have been looking up on youtube the music I sang - some quite obscure stuff I have not heard since then and yet I seem to remember just about all of it. It must be like riding a bike for some of us - you don't forget. that remembering it and playing by ear is not quite the same as perfect pitch which is just about knowing the key. It is a strange thing as going back to Handel or Bach's day pitch was half a tone lower I think it was so i remember singing Messiah with my youngest sons and it was done with old instruments and down in pitch and that was very hard fo rme as what I saw on the music and then heard in my head was not what we were supposed to sing as we were in modern day terms transposing although back in those days I suppose I would have learned that note A was whatever pitch they had it at in those days. Same with accompanying 3 sons at the piano over the years on their brass transposing instrument - right old hassle that I hear one note in my head and the trumpet plays it differently. No hassle at all for someone without perfect pitch.

I’m excellent at remembering names. I teach a group of 10 every day (different kids) and within 2 minutes I’ve learnt their names. But forget them as soon as I leave the school!

I'm good at cooking and in particular cooking for a crowd with no fuss made. In a crisis, I usually cook! And I have a natural ability to decide on the menu depending on what life event / crisis I'm catering for. Death in the family? Chicken and leek pie. Life-limiting diagnosis? Beef stew with dumplings.

howabout · 18/11/2018 10:25

I am ambidextrous and can write forwards and backwards at the same time. I can even do it on the side of the bath with bath crayons when supervising DC in the bath.

Playing by ear is a learned skill. I didn't used to be able to do it but can now on piano and violin. Can also harmonise on the hoof when singing. However proudest musical achievement is ability to create instant songs for almost all occasions - bit grumpy this AM so ashamed to say just gave DD3 a row over strop from missing favourite vest instead of doing so. She's happy as Larry now though so maybe highly effective telling off skills also on my list.

HoomanMoomin · 18/11/2018 10:26

I’m great at finding my way out of difficult financial situations. Even if it seems impossible, I find a solution. Mostly temporary though.
Also great at cooking. And google. People are asking me to look for certain stuff now, because they can’t find needed info themselves.
And finally - I seem to be hearing stuff very well. My DH is always rolling his eyes because he can’t whisper anything without me hearing.

Oh, and I sneeze silently.

Jozen · 18/11/2018 10:30

I can cook rice perfectly everytime and I'm a can get IV access into the most difficult of veins (I'm a HCP by the way, I don't just randomly poke people with needles Grin)

Jozen · 18/11/2018 10:31

"I can" not I'm a can.

lilyheather1 · 18/11/2018 10:32

I'm brilliant at lying. Which sounds sinister but is rarely used that way!

JaneJeffer · 18/11/2018 10:36

can write forwards and backwards at the same time I thought everyone can do this?

claraschu · 18/11/2018 10:37

I can give pills to cats. No trouble, no fuss, cats don't even know it happened.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 18/11/2018 10:37

My headstands are frankly olympic medal standard. Which for a fat 45 year old ain't bad.

Now, if only I could persuade the IOC to include headstands in the olympics, rather than wasting time with all that exciting flick-flacky, flying through the air gymnastics rubbish....

Doofas · 18/11/2018 10:39

I can untangle any tangled up slinky.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 18/11/2018 10:41

My hair grows really fast.

Sidge · 18/11/2018 10:44

I’m really good at taking smears. Elusive cervix? I’ll find it.

Not sure how useful a skill that is...

MadgeMidgerson · 18/11/2018 10:46

I can write upside down and backwards. I can also write with my non dominant hand

theonetowalkinthesun · 18/11/2018 10:49

I'm a brilliant sleeper, am good when people are sad and great at spelling

Ilikegregwallace · 18/11/2018 10:50

I am excellent at making cheese scones.

theonetowalkinthesun · 18/11/2018 10:51

I'm also a good liar!

Tweez · 18/11/2018 10:52

Sidge that’s a really great skill, believe me. There have been quite a few failed attempts made on me where the Nurse has asked me where mine is, because she can’t find it (tilted womb) Confused

Talith · 18/11/2018 10:53

I am superb at gauging how long things will take. Preens. Checks watch. *Preens a bit longer. I also guess the time correctly, quite frequently.

OhTheRoses · 18/11/2018 10:54

I can weigh people up very quickly. I also process key facts very quickly, identify the risks and opportunities and get an action plan in place. No idea how but it's been remarked upon throughout my working life and even by DH. I recently did an iq test and the part for analysis was at the top of the gifted scale. I am not academically clever.

Lindtnotlint · 18/11/2018 10:55

Love this thread! Very jealous of some of these. My 5yo has the “finding things” talent. It’s very handy (I don’t).

I am really good at speaking in public.

NinjaGoSaysNo · 18/11/2018 10:56

I have a good eye for colour and make a good cup of tea. I'm a fast reader and quick learner. Like a PP I'm good at getting knots out of things. I'm good at fiddly tasks in general.

(Remember that thread a few weeks ago where everyone was listing their faults? This is a nice antidote to that!)
