TO think Nursery are taking the piss!

I’ve just been told to drive back and provide nappies as I forgot his bag. Not allowed to leave any on site have to provide them daily. I explained I am now in Work and can’t they use spares to be told we don’t have any spares you need to bring some by 11.
Surely nurseries have to have spare nappies on site?

Op u cpukd always say you've got adhd like me lol. Adhd sometimes means you forget items that you need. And lose stuff like endlessly. Before someone jumps on me snd says they have it to and its no excuse blah blah blah. Its a light hearted comment.

Parttimewasteoftime · 15/11/2018 19:27

I have done this once in four years of nursery (2 ds) they were fine said have spares. Begged them to charge me extra they were really nice did keep a stash in the car afterwards and replaced extra nappies used. Think there has to be some give when dealing with young children. I once sent DS2 in with two spare outfits both came home wet (water play) original outfit he had a fight with a yogut and lost!? Picked him up in nursery spares trolls t shirt yellow leggings happy DS what can you say 😂

Barrowes · 15/11/2018 19:30

I have never had an experience like this and my son spent years in nursery. surely anything can happen where a child need a spare nappy.
I think you should consider finding a nursery or have a meeting with management.

NotBeforeCoffee · 15/11/2018 19:37

You have to take them daily?! That’s ridiculous.
When my boy ran out of his the nursery just borrowed one from another child

Indie139 · 15/11/2018 19:38

I agree its a bit silly to not allow you to leave some on site. I work in a nursery and parents often big huge packs of nappies and when theyre nearly finished we tell them to bring more. We also buy a pack of supermarket brand nappies as emergency/spares as we get parents who forget to bring nappies now and again. I understand there might be storage issues but doesnt he have a peg..you could leave a batch in a big backpack and top up weekly ot something

brighton19 · 15/11/2018 19:42

Why did you choose a nursery with such a ridiculous policy with so much potential for this to happen, i.e every day!

codswallopandbalderdash · 15/11/2018 19:50

Can't believe a nursery would do this. The one I used allowed us to store big packs of nappies on site, they told us if we needed to bring more, if ever anything went wrong e.g. they forgot to tell us more nappies were needed they used a nappy from another child's pack AND then replaced it when I brought more in. Seriously can't believe any nursery would behave like yours OP ...

As1002 · 15/11/2018 19:51

I work in a nursery and it gets annoying parents who often forget nappies. However sometimes this can genuinely happen, we have spares but only because parents have donated bags when their child has toilet trained. We did used to buy bags but more often than not we were using ours. (Parents knew we had spares) so now we don't advertise the fact but in an emergency we have some.

GrabEmByThePatriarchy · 15/11/2018 19:51

That is a bit shit really. I'd expect them to have spares available, for a fee of course. And really they must do, because there are bound to be times when a child uses all theirs up. That daily policy is stupid enough that this can't be the first time it's happened. They are BU.

viques · 15/11/2018 19:54

I agree about some parents being cfs when it comes to providing for their child, sometimes in ways that beggar belief. I worked with a child with severe physical and learning needs. Getting spare nappies from the parents was like getting blood from a stone. turned out they were using some of the the free nappies the local authority supplied for the disabled child for their younger child so said they didn't have "spare " ones for the school to use during the day. The lovely lady who provided respite care at the weekends had the same problem with them ! In the end we managed to get some of the allocation of nappies diverted to us directly, but it was a battle.

fairygarden · 15/11/2018 19:55

I work full time and trying to balance everything I would stress out completely if I had to remember nappies every day. Our nursery take big packs to store and let you know if they are running low. I though this was the norm? And if needed they have other supplies to use.

Bleurgh0 · 15/11/2018 19:58

The nursery we use provides nappies, food, formula, suntan lotion. It's all included in the price. We have to provide nappy rash cream as each child has to have their own pot.

Pompom42 · 15/11/2018 20:00

Doesn't help your situation but I use a nursery it's £55 day and nappies are supplied. They are an unknown cheap brand though, but at least I don't need to worry about forgetting nappies.

hidinginthenightgarden · 15/11/2018 20:00

This is ridiculous! both nurseries I have used included nappies in the price. That's what the 2.50 top ups covered when you got your free hours - nappies and food.

RidingMyBike · 15/11/2018 20:13

It seems reasonable for a cheap nursery. We looked at a similar one (£55 per day) but all nappies, wipes, food, sun cream etc had to be provided. So we went with the £80 per day one where everything is provided so nothing to worry about.

Boulty · 15/11/2018 20:29

If they need them daily pop a change bag in your car ready for each day with nappies/spare clothes etc. No need to go to and fro and no need to get stressed again. I am a little surprised they have no spares but perhaps many parents take the mick and have lots of forgetful days?

Maryann1975 · 15/11/2018 20:37

I’m a childminder. I think this is ridiculous. I have limited space to store bags of nappies, but I find space for them because it is easier than parents bringing a bag each day full of nappies/spare clothes/wipes. I can’t see any reason why they couldn’t have borrowed a couple of nappies from another child and you then replace them tomorrow. In the past I’ve popped to the shop to buy a bag when parent forgot and charged them back to them, it’s no big deal at all. I’ve borrowed nappies this week (I forgot to mention to parent they were running low/ran out of nappies, so my fault). I’d never phone a parent back to bring nappies!

I can’t believe a nursery who expect you to bring nappies daily, don’t have a stash of spares somewhere in the building and I think they were trying to prove a point.

PeachyPeachTrees · 15/11/2018 21:22

At the nursery I used, they supplied the nappies. It's win win really because they buy in bulk and don't need to store for each child individually and never have issues with running out or someone forgetting to bring them in. Let's be honest, we all forget things from time to time.
When I took them to swimming lessons I had to bring a swim nappy. If I forgot then I could buy one for an expensive price, but better than missing the lesson.

CheshireChat · 15/11/2018 21:36

Forgetting aside, what happens is the kid needs more nappies that day? Or even an extra set of clothes?!

Bashbaby · 15/11/2018 21:36

I’m genuinely shocked that nurseries don’t provide nappies! Is this really a thing? Ours provides nappies, wipes, cream, calpol if needed, formula milk and full fat cows milk and all meals and snacks. For £51 a day!!

CountryGirl1234 · 15/11/2018 22:12

Ridiculous they should buy a bag or so to keep for situations like these. They’re being silly buggers, you should maybe have to sign something when you join to say you don’t mind them using Mamia nappies or something cheap in the event and you replace what you’ve used etc ... at least they won’t be out of pocket by piss takers but those genuinely in need. It’s no hassle really is it. Daft arses.

happymum12345 · 15/11/2018 22:23

You’ve never forgotten before, so it’s an honest mistake.
Of course the nursery should have spare nappies! Yanbu!

canadianbanana · 16/11/2018 21:20

I ran a home daycare for 15 years and I can't tell you how often parents asked if I could just store extra packs of wipes or nappies, or couldn't I just use some spares, etc. If they do it for you, they cannot refuse to do it for anyone. They likely don't have the space to store your extra nappies or store a supply of nappies in case parents forget to bring some. The nursery then has to have a supply of every size. It's your child, and your responsibility. Why not keep a supply in your car in case you forget?

Sb74 · 19/11/2018 12:24

Our nursery provided nappies - god what a pain to have to take nappies in every day. They should build them into the childcare cost. Never heard of that before! But then it’s been a few years since mine were at nursery so maybe things have changed?!

anonkneemouse · 19/11/2018 12:34

Yabvu. You have sent your child inadequately equipped for their day. This is your problem. Not theirs.
