TO think Nursery are taking the piss!

I’ve just been told to drive back and provide nappies as I forgot his bag. Not allowed to leave any on site have to provide them daily. I explained I am now in Work and can’t they use spares to be told we don’t have any spares you need to bring some by 11.
Surely nurseries have to have spare nappies on site?

OP posts:
Allyg1185 · 15/11/2018 17:26

I work in a private nursery that provides all nappies and wipes however I have worked in a nursery that asked parents to provide nappies and wipes in the childs bag. So a daily amount. The nursery simply did not have the space for boxes and boxes of nappies lying around.

I have came across "forgetful" parents that do take the utter piss like sending their child the entire winter without a hat and saying they forgot or had x y and z to do on the way out of the door.

We are all busy and trying to juggle family life but be more organised and get sorted the night before instead of expecting the nursery to pick up at the back of you

Angel75 · 15/11/2018 17:32

If they take babies in nappies then they should certainly have some spare. And do you know what? I bet they did have.

Scrumptiousbears · 15/11/2018 17:34

You have a bargain OP. I paid £78 a day. They did supply their own nappies though.

Turquoise123 · 15/11/2018 17:43

I am wondering if you are a mother and I am wondering if they would say this to a father

Just wondering....

They will of course know if you have done this before and if you have not then it seems really bad

alwayswingingit · 15/11/2018 17:50

i thought all nurseries provided nappies!!!!!

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 15/11/2018 17:50

You'd think they would have some that they could then charge for. If you explain you're at work, surely they would have some contingency.

Nousernamefound · 15/11/2018 17:52

We would never have done this at the nursery I worked at. We always had extras and if we had run out of that particular size we did sometimes borrow from another child with an extra one and make sure it was replaced (obviously letting parents know!).

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/11/2018 17:55

I would expect them to have spares and if parents are cf to charge for the spares. If I had genuinely forgotten I would be happy to pay the charge. if I was a cheeky fucker, I would bloody well put in my own cheaper ones.

Mymomsbetterthanyomom · 15/11/2018 18:08

Definitely sounds ridiculous to me.....
Unless it isn't the first time she "forgot" to send enough.

Suebreo · 15/11/2018 18:11

Bet ur paying an arm and a leg for that shit service, taking the piss big style. They should have spares and can take the option to charge. Disgusting

Lostinlondon999 · 15/11/2018 18:11

I think it’s ridiculous they can’t be left on site?
I can’t think of any good reason as to why?

CheshireChat · 15/11/2018 18:14

Sunhill4 If it's just for spares then you'd need about 6 packs, 1 for each size. And the nursery can always charge extra for spares so they don't need to be out of pocket, there's always going to be some CFs.

RavenWings · 15/11/2018 18:16

I can see why you can't leave them all on site - as pp said, storage could be an issue.

That said, I think in their shoes I would have spare nappies on site. I'd also charge an extra fee if these are used, and set the rate very high. That way you discourage parents from routinely not sending in nappies, and there's a stash on hand for emergencies.

theSnuffster · 15/11/2018 18:27

I work in a baby room but we provide nappies/ wipes/ formula milk etc. I do have experience of how cheeky parents can be though. The ones that don't bother bringing sun cream because they know we can't let their child burn so have to use someone else's. Or who don't bother bringing a coat, or waterproof. Sometimes even shoes! We do have some spare items but often we have to use another childs! So I do see why they don't just provide spares (although I think using spares but changing for them could be an option- having a high price on them could help to deter forgetful parents too.)

Also, if parents did provide nappies, there's no way we could store them so I can see why they need them bringing in each day. We have 25 babies and 40 toddlers on our books at times- we don't have space for up to 65 packs/ boxes of nappies.

Bekstar · 15/11/2018 18:27

My sons nursery always had spares and regularly put a note in newsletters asking for donations for "spare clothes" and "unused nappies" that your child may have grown out of. So they always had spares. There was many occasions my son would arrive home wearing a pink disney nappy that was borrowed out of his cousins bag or someone else's clothes. It also as someone else suggests covers them for accidents such as dihorrea or when there was messy play.

Stopandlook · 15/11/2018 18:33

Yes, that’s ridiculous.

Goldenbug · 15/11/2018 18:37

The nursery has a stupid policy. Leave.

RavenWings · 15/11/2018 18:42

The ones that don't bother bringing sun cream because they know we can't let their child burn so have to use someone else's.

Could the nursery not do something similar to what you suggested for spare nappies - charge an extra fee for every application of suncream needed (and make sure it's high)? Of course that would need to come from management but I bet it'd cut down on the lazy parenting.

MissRja · 15/11/2018 18:48

You are BVUR!! It is your child, your responsibility to provide nappies for them. Why should the nursery provide spares? Imagine how many they would need to provide if parents forgot nappies everyday. Where are they supposed to find the money to buy the spare nappies? And guaranteed they wont be replaced by parents who forget them !

Lostinlondon999 · 15/11/2018 18:52

OP ignore any negative comments. As parents we are human, we sometimes forget things.
Storage should not be an issue as most baby/toddler rooms have shelves with individual boxes for spare clothes, nappies, wipes etc. There is absolutely no valid reason as to why you cannot keep the nappies in school.

Cindefuckingrella · 15/11/2018 18:54

I think it’s a bit harsh of them for a first offence. Keep a spare pack in your car as back up so it doesn’t happen again.

Rhiannon13 · 15/11/2018 19:04

Maybe they're taking a hard line to encourage parents to take the time to equip their children properly? There must be more in the bag than nappies surely? Spare clothes? I'm a childminder and get (silently) fed up with parents who forget essentials.

Aridane · 15/11/2018 19:09

Lol at the Themz The Rulz brigade Grin

Xmasbaby11 · 15/11/2018 19:16

I think the nursery must know it's a flawed policy. At ours we left nappies there and they borrowed each other's when on child ran out. They kept track of this and we used the nursery for 5 years with no problem.

angelfacecuti75 · 15/11/2018 19:17

Maybe ask them to make an exception in ur case x i would . I suppose if they've not got room for 17 extra boxes of nappies but might have room for urs....
