To have just ‘taken a day’ today?

I called in sick today. Not because I actually feel ill, but for reasons I can’t explain just felt like I needed a day off from life.

I have done some work so as not to have to play catch up tomorrow with emails and the like, but otherwise I’ve essentially pulled a sickie (and I feel guilty about it).

I have a husband and a 5yo son and so taking a ‘day off’ at the weekend isn’t an option IYSWIM. And I feel like there is so much to do day to day that sometimes it’s overwhelming.

Now I think about it I could have taken a day’s annual leave but this morning when I just didn’t want to engage in life I didn’t think of that, I thought a sick day was my only option.

Do I sound like I’m going bananas?

I didn’t ever say it was admirable never to take a day off. I’ve said clearly many times that you definitely should take the day...we just disagree on how you cover it.

Still not sure why you’re not getting any time at the weekend which your OP implied was part of the problem?

I took today off and called in sick. I am not sick but suffering huge, ginormous amounts of stress due to stuff in my personal life. Could not face going in and pretending I was fine. Hate letting people down and I do it v v rarely. I don't feel guilty. Can't do my job if I am crying all the time! Hope you and I both feel better tomorrow. Take care
