Brexit -have you changed your mind??

I know Brexit has been done to death and I'm not asking for anyone's justification for wanting out or in.

I'm just really curious to know if any of the folks who voted leave have changed their minds (as is sometimes reported by the Guardian).

I voted to remain and I would vote again to remain if there were a second referendum.

However, even if by some miracle we did stay in, I think a lot of damage has been done (the EMA and EBA won't be staying in the UK now whatever) and I think we're now best off leaving WITH A DEAL and then hoping for a general election, the chance to vote for some politicians for brains (do they exist) and them agreeing that we will remain in the EEA or something similar. That way we leave the EU (so leavers get what they want) but with the least economic damage (and Scotland might not vote to dissolve the UK in those circumstances). And if we remain close to the EU it would be easier to rejoin at a later date.

OracleofDelphi · 13/11/2018 16:32

Boris Im sorry but it is free movement of People - not labour - . "The Schengen area

The key milestone in establishing an internal market with free movement of persons was the conclusion of the two Schengen agreements, i.e. the Agreement proper of 14 June 1985, and the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement, which was signed on 19 June 1990 and entered into force on 26 March 1995."

Megan2018 · 13/11/2018 16:33

Nope! Voted Leave, can’t wait. I am hoping for No Deal.

bofsy1 · 13/11/2018 16:33

It will not be the UK for much longer, but the DK (Divided Kingdom).

Twillow · 13/11/2018 16:34

Still remain, and very sad that at the centenary of the WW1 armistice we are breaking our bonds with Europe.
I haven't heard any good reasons for leave aside from the general "we won suck it up" crap. The government were foolish to allow a vote - it's an emotive subject and we just don't have the deeper insight to make the choice of what is good for our country. I hope it's not a disaster, but I can't see any way that it won't be. We are so far from being an empire now, just a tiny little island that should be joining hands with it's neighbours. I have no doubt that it is costing us more to leave than to remain financially in the short term and quite probably in the long term. The government is a mirror of the populous in this instance - emotive, uninformed and conflicted. Sad all round.

BorisBogtrotter · 13/11/2018 16:34

" their reasons why they want to stay?"

Easy.

Free trade with the world's largest free market, 15 % percent of our GDP is based on it in fact.

60 Percent of our exports go through EU trade deals or to the EU its self, millions of jobs are based on this trade.

The continued benefits of striking trade deals as part of the largest and richest trade bloc in the world, with Canada and Japan about to come on line, presenting great opportunities for British business.

Cooperation on everything from medicine to atomic industries. A seat and significant influence at the table when making rules that will effect our industries.

Satsumaeater · 13/11/2018 16:35

Hi Oracle, do you post on the Times website too? I saw someone who said they were a retired accountant and they'd voted to leave the EU based on audit/account reasons.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 13/11/2018 16:35

I voted leave and would vote leave again if there was a second referendum, which I don't believe there should be.

DisappearingGirl · 13/11/2018 16:35

Remain and would do so again. However, I'm not angry with leave voters as I think they voted in good faith. I'm angry with the government for calling a referendum without checking whether both options were feasible.

I don't think many people would change their vote. And this is why I'm not keen on a second referendum. If we get a reasonable deal to leave, then we can leave and we don't need a second referendum. If we can't get a reasonable deal to leave and we're just hoping a second referendum will change the result, I'm not sure it will. In this case, I think they should call it all off and stay in (with a massive apology to leave voters)

Bimblefaff · 13/11/2018 16:35

Nothing can adequately express the hatred and ill will I feel.

This is ridiculous. People were asked, and gave their answer. Nobody deserves pure hatred for their wishes finally being realised.

bofsy1 · 13/11/2018 16:36

@Twillow

Agree with you.

And A50 was invoked far too quickly IMV. Should have had time to reflect and plan. But no.

RossPoldarkfan · 13/11/2018 16:36

I voted Remain and feel even stronger now. I cannot understand any reason to vote Brexit.

bofsy1 · 13/11/2018 16:38

I am waiting for the street parties and the euphoria that will come on Leaving Day.

I suppose everyone else is waiting for the party too.

OracleofDelphi · 13/11/2018 16:38

I totally respect people who voted Reman - my sister, mum and best friend did. I just get frustrated when people assume that I am a racisit because I dont agree with the fiscal management of the EU. I also had exteme issues in the way the EU didnt create a unified response to the horrific crisis in Syria. We all saw the pictures, babies floating dead in the Med. It took civilians on their boats to fish those babies out. For me it was the nail in the coffin for the concept of the EU for me. I would have thought the benfit of being is somehing allegedly bigger than a Union for trade would be that collectivly we could have collated a unigied European response to help those people quickly. Instead we had people crushed at the border of Macedonia, and no one country within the Union could agree what was the best way to ensure people flowed through to different countires (ie not expecting the poorer countries like Greece to absorb all the refugees). In my opinion it was horrific the lack of unity and typified for me, how the EU is at times bloated and somewhat of a toothless tiger.

BewareOfDragons · 13/11/2018 16:40

Still remain.

Sheer insanity that the government is going ahead with this.

BorisBogtrotter · 13/11/2018 16:40

The EU accounts things is a misunderstanding of what the audit can't sign off.

It isn't the EU's accounts itself, but the money that is allocated on behalf of the EU by member states, not all of it goes through transparent enough tender processes ( this happens in the UK too), and therefore doesn't pass audit.

OracleofDelphi · 13/11/2018 16:41

Satsumaeater - no! That wasnt me... Im quite bad at maths tbh!!!, But I am a small business owner who buys stock from an EU country. Just because it might make my life slightly harder in the short term, doesnt mena I should vote against it. As far as I am concerned if its the right decision for the country - how it affects me individually shouldnt come into it - then it will be worth it irrespective of the initial fall out.

Leapfrog44 · 13/11/2018 16:42

Fascinating.. I've just counted ONE mind changer so far which contradicts the results of this poll www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/nov/13/poll-one-in-five-private-voters-have-changed-their-mind-on-brexit

I don't want to start any bun fight, I literally want to know whether these mind-changers really exist!

OP posts:
wink1970 · 13/11/2018 16:43

I voted leave and would perhaps now vote remain because of the mess the negotiations have made, not necessarily that I believe in staying in.

nottakingthisanymore · 13/11/2018 16:43

Part of the reason I cited remain was that I couldn’t understand what would happen if we leave. There were too many ‘mights’ And ‘possibly’ etc. It seemed wrong to vote in favour of something that didn’t actually exist. I hope that makes sense. It seemed a gamble to me. Given how things are planning out I think I voted correctly. We should get another vote when the deal is agreed. I might change my mind then.

Gemini69 · 13/11/2018 16:44

Nope.. I want the control of our WEATHER back immediately Grin

MasonJar · 13/11/2018 16:45

Surely no one believes polls after all the fiascos we've had with them??

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/11/2018 16:45

Like kids arguing over a toy
No you’re wrong. This was Boris trying to prove his willy was longer. It isn’t though is it? Confounded buffoon. Hoist by his own petar. He doesn’t believe in Brexit any more than I believe in it.

As for Cameron he doesn’t have a dick or a spine.

Would vote remain tomorrow.

yolofish · 13/11/2018 16:48

oracle I will never be anything but remain, but huge kudos to you for your responses - I think you might be the only leaver ever to have made sense Wine

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 13/11/2018 16:48

Still remain. No leavers in my social circle so have yet to hear a convincing argument for leaving.
