I know Brexit has been done to death and I'm not asking for anyone's justification for wanting out or in.

I'm just really curious to know if any of the folks who voted leave have changed their minds (as is sometimes reported by the Guardian).

OP posts:
nottakingthisanymore · 13/11/2018 16:17

Not the only thing! Damn fat fingers!

JacquesHammer · 13/11/2018 16:18

If remainers want leavers to change their minds it might be best not to call them stupid

Maybe a leaver would like to disabuse us of the notion. Unfortunately you only get “well I have good reasons but I won’t tell you”.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 13/11/2018 16:18

Nope - I remain being a Remainer.

mrssunshinexxx · 13/11/2018 16:20

Not giving reasons because people who want to remain will never understand and vice Versa the OP asked a question she just wanted simple answers.
I can understand remainers will feel very bitter and angry as would the majority if the outcome was different.
But the facts are it's happening so get ready

twofingerstoEverything · 13/11/2018 16:21

Think the country was going to the dogs anyway, but you better believe that Brexit is being used as a scapegoat. In fact I am pretty convinced Brexit has been used exactly for this reason.

Tin foil hats at the ready!

BorisBogtrotter · 13/11/2018 16:21

"Not giving reasons because people who want to remain will never understand "

Then isn't the reason less likely to be linked to like, actual facts, and more likely to be a feeling?

We can all understand good reasons

Horsfordiansunite · 13/11/2018 16:22

Have you seen comments on the daily mail website about the Eu because there is indeed alot of irrational bile spouted. And that's just one example.
It's a diversion to take our eyes off other issues which need remedying.

OracleofDelphi · 13/11/2018 16:22

Firstly no one has ever asked and Im happy to share my reasons. Im not happy for remainers to believe that they know more htan me - just becuase of the way they voted. Happy to have rational discussion though.

Firstly as I understand it there are 3 enshrining principals for being in the EU. First is free movement of people - which we dont have. Second is single market - which we dont have and third is trade. So already we have never been as fully IN as people like to refer to as we were not part of the single currency of Shengen.

Secondly I fully support trade and as it was EEC - however when you have more net beneficiaries than contributors it creates an uneven balance in the union. I support regulations in animal trade, and human rights etc. Fully. However I do not support the ever increasing size of the EU. This has nothing to do with people travelling to the UK - but simply a scale of Net contributors vs Net Beneficiaries. Countries like Malta and Cyprus are always going to be net beneficiaries and I think increasing economic tis with countries that are so very different is difficult to manage. There has been large expansion in the last 15 / 20 years in the size of the union. And all of those contries are net beneficiaries. Therefore it puts additional pressure on UK France Germany etc to make larger and larger contributions to support these other states in the union. This has nothing to do with immigration here but more that the size of the union is growing expanentially without any other economies that are of a contributor size being added to the mix - this is one of my reasons.

JacquesHammer · 13/11/2018 16:22

Not giving reasons because people who want to remain will never understand

Uh huh.

The level of debate remains as erudite as ever.

Thank you - can see you’ve written a long reply but can’t get it to load on the app. Appreciate you responding and will read on the website shortly

BirthdayCakes · 13/11/2018 16:24

I voted remain and would again.. but... I'm not sure I can get too worked up about it all..

Sure, it's going to be a mess but the world trundles on much the same as ever.. There'll be winners as well as losers, and there'll be chances to change some things if we want - although we'll have to be vigilant in protecting ourselves against those who don't have our real interests at heart..

bofsy1 · 13/11/2018 16:25

The entire Government of this country (Westminster) well with one or two very rare exceptions are self serving minions.

We vote them in and this is what they do for us. Make things difficult, nothing will be easy anymore. Ever. Outside the tent is not a good place to be when the only people really pushing for Brexit are Trump and Putin. You have been warned.

I wish there was some kind of PR vote rather than FPTP. The current system is so unrepresentative of dissenting voices. But that will never happen in my lifetime either.

We are just being used for other people's ends, those who will not ever suffer the deprivations that a no deal Brexit will bring.

ilovesooty · 13/11/2018 16:26

No I still wouldn't consider changing my mind. I am more strongly remain than ever and I will hate Cameron until my dying day for causing this mess. Nothing can adequately express the hatred and ill will I feel.

EmeraldShamrock · 13/11/2018 16:26

What is going to happen to all the immigrants and EU workers in the UK.
Can they stay as already there or are they sent packing to where they came from.
I am not in the UK though I do feel sorry for all the UK employees who will lose their jobs going forward.

twofingerstoEverything · 13/11/2018 16:26

But the facts are it's happening so get ready
It is this sort of trite shite that makes remainers think leavers are a bit dim-witted (not all, obvs). I mean, what are we 'getting ready' for? Nobody knows. What is going to happen with our trading arrangements? Nobody knows. Our economy? Nobody knows. What's the general plan? Nobody knows. But we have to 'get ready'. Hmm
The fact is, nobody is ready. Our ports aren't ready. Our industries aren't ready. The whole thing is a disgraceful shambles.

ILoveHumanity · 13/11/2018 16:27

I voted leave and regret my decision.

You will never beleive but I was pressured by mil 🤔. Used to be stupidly people pleasing back then

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 13/11/2018 16:27

Instead of always asking leavers for their reasons for voting that way, how about remainers for once answering the question and give their reasons why they want to stay? And don't let's have the one which is usually trotted out about kids not being able to study/travel in Europe any more. As has been said before, people did study and travel extensively in Europe before we joined the EEC - indeed I had a place to study at the Sorbonne - I didn't take it up, but that's another story!

BorisBogtrotter · 13/11/2018 16:28

Firstly as I understand it there are 3 enshrining principals for being in the EU. First is free movement of people - which we dont have"

Its not free movement of people its the free movenet of labour, and it is part of the 4 freedoms of the single market ( goods, capital, labour, services), which we very much do have.

The discussion on net beneficiaries and net contributors is incorrect, net beneficiaries have become net contributors, and the net contribution from the UK PA is less than 1% of public spending.

"Therefore it puts additional pressure on UK France Germany etc to make larger and larger contributions to support these other states in the union. "

Our Net contribution to the EU ( and that of France and Germany) has stayed relatively the same as a percentage of public spending over time. The largest net beneficiary of the EU has been Poland, to whom we export more than our entire net contribution PA,

Roussette · 13/11/2018 16:28

If remainers want leavers to change their minds it might be best not to call them stupid

Works both ways, I've just been told to 'grow up'!

However Oracle thank you for answering giving your reasons for leaving.

yolofish · 13/11/2018 16:28

although I dont agree oracle has posted just about the most well constructed leaver response I've ever seen on here. thank you oracle.

bofsy1 · 13/11/2018 16:29

The irony is that we will either have BRINO and still have to make contributions and acknowledge the ECJ etc,

OR,

We will leave with nothing and no plan, no Trade agreements.

Sounds delightful, not.

Place your bets now.

CharltonLido73 · 13/11/2018 16:29

Voted remain and would still vote remain.

This will not end well.

Cameron has such a lot to answer for...

OracleofDelphi · 13/11/2018 16:30

My second reason for reacching my conclusion was based on the auditors of the EU. The EU auditors regularly sign off the contributions as fully audited and has given them a clean bill of health so to speak. However other investigations have routinely found that there are significant errors within payments out of the contribtions. To the record of around 3% which is above the allowed tolerance of 2% . when you are looking of budgets in excess of £135 billion this level of error comes out at around £4 billion. Which is a lot of money inaccuratly accounted for. As far as I managed to find, it is not subject to independent audit, and to me that makes it an increasingly risky venture when more and ore countries are being added with net beneficiary status.

Limensoda · 13/11/2018 16:31

Voted Remain and am even more convinced it was the right thing to do so would do so again.
Several of my friends who voted leave have changed their mind.

Horsfordiansunite · 13/11/2018 16:31

Thanks for your answer Oracle but what concerns me is the fact that the cheerleaders for brexit are not the most principled people shall we say and that includes corbyn Grin
