To ask how I survive a night with a baby and NO NAPPIES?!!!

Carmen99 · 07/11/2018 18:28

Partner dropped baby off an hour ago...told me he had bought nappies. Ive been through bags...definitely no nappies...He's working tonight and will be miles away now. I have no one I can ask for help- neighbours elderly on one side, suffered very recent bereavement on the other side. Unbelievably my car is in garage and there are no shops within easy driving distance.
Does anyone have any ideas at all about what I can possibly do to get through night? Only use one nappy in night...usually change at 7pm and again at 6am. I've got swim nappies but sure they wouldn't work.
Got no other nappies in house.
Help!

This thread has reminded me that I still have a stash of nappy pins; my younger child has just turned 36...

Joboy · 07/11/2018 19:50

Iceland orders are next day as well

Sequencedress · 07/11/2018 19:52

North of Scotland here and I'd happily nip to the shops for you. You're a mummy and lots of being a mummy is fashioning things and dealing with not ideal situations. You will get through it, and it'll boost your confidence, as you've dealt with a difficult situation, and survived!! Well done! Loving the mn hive tonight Flowers

Sequencedress · 07/11/2018 19:52

Ugh, that sounded so patronising, sorry!!

user1473878824 · 07/11/2018 19:54

@CandyCreeper 🙄 she thought she had nappies, didn’t. Get off your high horse.

KatieMarieJ · 07/11/2018 19:57

North East Derbyshire/South Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire border here if you need - honestly don't mind!

Wonkypalmtree · 07/11/2018 20:02

Triple check all your bag and luggage, you may have one somewhere.

Can you book a taxi to shop?

Have you any sanitary towels you could fashion into a nappy?

Carmen99 · 07/11/2018 20:05

Thanks CandyCreeper. There are no buses running at this time near my house and taxi isn't that close but shop is further...it would cost an absolute fortune. We are in the sticks.
Yes, I am very aware of single parents. I know some can't drive. I'm not sure what your point is? That my little problem wasn't worth of being on mumsnet or that my thread title was too dramatic? I was just looking for a few clever practical ideas...which I got. No harm done, eh?

I didnt say anything about the lack or nappies im just surprised an adult cant take a bus taxi or walk to a shop. this was only posted at 6.30 plenty of time to get to a shop. i dont get it thats all! mountainmolehill!

ModreB · 07/11/2018 20:07

A small bath towel folded would do the job. Another underneath would mop up any messes. If you are really strapped, use kitchen towels and discard for new as needed.

elfies · 07/11/2018 20:13

An old towel ,lined with a sanitary pad should get you through . Good Luck

CatLadyToddlerMother · 07/11/2018 20:14

If you were my neighbour even if I didn't know you very well I'd happily give you a couple of nappies to see you overnight. Any neighbours nearby with young children?

schooltripsfromhell · 07/11/2018 20:14

Amazon prime deliver nappies next day if you cba to drag a load of nappies home from the shop.

I live in the arse end of nowhere and I can still get prime deliveries.

Riv · 07/11/2018 20:15

Currently in a village west of Newcastle upon Tyne with car - any use to you?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 07/11/2018 20:16

I wouldn’t bin stuff for having wee on it. Surely that’s half your babygros and all your sheets in the bin otherwise! Just wash anything.

happymum12345 · 07/11/2018 20:16

Time to start potty training! There have been great suggestions. I would try them all. Whatever one you go with, I would make sure you use lots of barrier cream, like Vaseline/sudocream, to prevent nappy rash. Imagine that you're living in the jungle or Bear Grylls on holiday with a baby. Good luck!

Serin · 07/11/2018 20:17

What lovely areas some of you live in: Windlesham, Hope Valley, York and Harrogate!

He will be fine with a folded towel in his swim nappy and a good bath in the morning.

GinaCarbonara · 07/11/2018 20:18

Are you in a zone for Sainsbury's Chop Chop?

BrickByBrick · 07/11/2018 20:22

OP Glad you got sorted. Sometimes it is hard to think of the 'simple' solutions when you aren't sure what to do.

cookingonwine · 07/11/2018 20:23

Try Facebook...? Hope you managed to get something sorted.

ILoveDolly · 07/11/2018 20:23

My dd1 was in old fashioned Terry nappies when I was short on better reusables so I can tell you that a towel folded on under the swim nappy will work well. You can use a folded muslin as a newborn nappy but if he's 13m towel is better. Any absorbant fabric, t-shirts, etc will do the job.

MsNowtyBach · 07/11/2018 20:24

Use the swim
Nappy and bulk it out with folded flannels?

Carmen99 · 07/11/2018 20:24

Hi Gina. Another service I hadn't heard of...just checked...we aren't. Shame...looks good. However I reckon swim nappy, muslin and sanitary towel will be fine till tomorrow.

ILoveDolly · 07/11/2018 20:27

To wash the towel after, any hot wash will render it reusable but you can buy sanitizing powder if you are worried

Tartsamazeballs · 07/11/2018 20:28

Ascot here, if you're local give me a shout and I'll do a nappy run!
