To ask how I survive a night with a baby and NO NAPPIES?!!!

Carmen99 · 07/11/2018 18:28

Partner dropped baby off an hour ago...told me he had bought nappies. Ive been through bags...definitely no nappies...He's working tonight and will be miles away now. I have no one I can ask for help- neighbours elderly on one side, suffered very recent bereavement on the other side. Unbelievably my car is in garage and there are no shops within easy driving distance.
Does anyone have any ideas at all about what I can possibly do to get through night? Only use one nappy in night...usually change at 7pm and again at 6am. I've got swim nappies but sure they wouldn't work.
Got no other nappies in house.
Help!

I don’t have Uber or deliveroo or 2 hr prime... they deliver to me though, so might be worth a try?

Does the baby not normally live with you as you didn't have any nappies lying about the house??

kateandme · 08/11/2018 03:01

anyone know how this turned out?

Jpgs · 08/11/2018 17:38

Do you have tea towels. If not then hand towels? Fold them into the triangle, as follows, Lay on floor, cupboard wherever, table top, take bottom corner to middle, take opposite corner up, fold down top flap. It will look like a kite. For a girl fold bott9m bit up to form pad to the back, for a boy roll in and create pad to the front. Put flap bit round waist, pads between legs. Roll in to fill thin spots, secure with a large safety pin, ends of flap and bit through legs altogether. This will last through the night. Fashion a pair of plastic pants to go over the nappy us8ng a large plastic bag. We didn’t have pampers, this was how I did my children’s nappies in the 70s. Hand towels ma6 absorb more wee, if you can use them. Good luck.

Glad you're all sorted. Must have been a nightmare! Bet you'll give husband a big talking to when he returns from his trip!!

This post did make me chuckle, there's a lot of mumsnetters who haven't experienced village life.

I too would have struggled in this situation. You can easily run low on nappies, but I'm sure you won't let this happen again.

Have a glass of wine and chuckle

Have you got Amazon prime? You can get deliveries same day on the prime now app?

Knittedfairies
This thread has reminded me that I still have a stash of nappy pins; my younger child has just turned 36...

You never know when you might need an emergency nappy pin though.

Angiemum24 · 08/11/2018 18:24

I’ve used a pair of knickers, two pads and sticky tape.
Get knickers
Put pads in knickers
Tape up knickers to make the right size. Don’t put any tape on babies skin.

AlpacaLypse · 08/11/2018 18:26

Did your cunning plan work OP? I was impressed by some of the ideas that resourceful MNetters came up with!

I was also impressed by the sheer numbers of posters who piled in having very clearly not read any of the actual thread, not even your updates!

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 08/11/2018 18:37

I love that people are still posting helpful solutions to this, despite

A) the issue occurring LAST night

and

B) the OP posting that she’d found a sensible solution about 20 messages in.

amazon pantry, they deliver within 2 hours to me

DaanSaaf · 08/11/2018 18:44

I haven't RTFT but you should cancel the cheque op.

Sb74 · 08/11/2018 18:54

How about ringing a local taxi company and asking them to buy them and drop them off? I’ve asked for help from taxis in the past. They’re normally happy to help.

stayathomer · 08/11/2018 19:03

Was very remote and once was very stuck for nappies and rang a shop in the nearest town and they delivered them! Gave them the cost of petrol and s top cod was so relieved! People are amazing when you're stuck!! To the person above that offered help, this shows what really MN isFlowers

Toweling nappies,1950/60 style. just cut up an old soft towel to size.,then pin it up to fit..

SpanGransNo1Fan · 08/11/2018 19:08

BaronessBomburst

My village only has taxis on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Actually it's just the one taxi, and you have to pre-book.

I totally read this in Danny’s voice from Hot Fuzz ...”it’s just the one taxi actually”

can't believe some of the replies here. In some areas there's very few buses after 6 and you'd still havr to walk a lot plus with a tiny baby in the cold and dark wouldn't be ideal would it.
People make mistakes, I forget stuff all the time. she asked for advice and got it. stop eith the oh my god I can't believe you don't have Amazon prime

PhilomenaButterfly · 08/11/2018 19:13

I'm in Fulham, but I suspect that if you were in London you'd be able to get nappies.

gemgemgemgemgem · 08/11/2018 19:51

Order deliveroo and ask them to pick some up on the way for a tip!
