To ask how I survive a night with a baby and NO NAPPIES?!!!

Carmen99 · 07/11/2018 18:28

Partner dropped baby off an hour ago...told me he had bought nappies. Ive been through bags...definitely no nappies...He's working tonight and will be miles away now. I have no one I can ask for help- neighbours elderly on one side, suffered very recent bereavement on the other side. Unbelievably my car is in garage and there are no shops within easy driving distance.
Does anyone have any ideas at all about what I can possibly do to get through night? Only use one nappy in night...usually change at 7pm and again at 6am. I've got swim nappies but sure they wouldn't work.
Got no other nappies in house.
Help!

Where are you? I'm sure someone somewhere can nip to the shop for you.

Harrykanesrightsock · 07/11/2018 18:52

Have you texted your DP and asked where they are? How far away is he? Might it be cheaper for him to phone a taxi and deliver the nappies he has bought if he has them with him?

OrdinarySnowflake · 07/11/2018 18:52

Agree with call taxi service - nappies are often sold at garages even if there's not a proper shop nearby. Most companies around here would be happy to pick some up and deliver for the cost of the distance plus the nappies. All they can say is no and it's only cost you the price of a call.

Otherwise, sainitary towel in the swim nappy, or put a mussie on as a nappy with the swim nappy over the top.

Sorry, realised link doesn't work. Google Amazon Fresh

DryHeave · 07/11/2018 18:54

Flannel in a swim nappy. Make sure the waterproof protector is on the mattress.

popcornwizard · 07/11/2018 18:56

Do you have facebook? Ask on a local group for help, I'm sure someone can pop a couple in and you can return them tomorrow.

EssentialHummus · 07/11/2018 18:59

Ask on a local FB group? (If you happen to be in south London I'll drop some off!)

Otherwise I'd use a swim nappy with a sanitary towel in, or even a swim nappy with folded paper towel in, and a towel on the bed/mattress.

Mishappening · 07/11/2018 18:59

Cut up an old towel into squares and make an old-fashioned nappy - if you don't have nappy pins, then support the nappy with pants. You might want to put a bit of cream on the bum first as they will not wick away the wet as efficiently as a disposable.

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 07/11/2018 19:00

I would try the swim nappy with a towel wrapped round like a nappy. When my baby was born she was really small and when I was moved up to the ward they had no nappies in her size. The midwives just used towels until my mum arrived with micro nappies. Perhaps set an alarm to check during the night in case he soaks through and needs changed?

PippilottaLongstocking · 07/11/2018 19:02

Use a t shirt or towel. doesn’t need to be thrown out after, just washed! Put a bin bag (for waterproofing) on the bed with a towel on top when you go to bed.

Aridane · 07/11/2018 19:02

Old towel pinned or in swim nappy

Blatherskite · 07/11/2018 19:03

Amazon Fresh and Prime Now (the 2 hour delivery) only cover small areas of the country. Chances are the op is not in one of these if she has no shops within easy driving distances as she states.

Swim nappy and a sanitary towel is probably your best option for now Op.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 07/11/2018 19:04

Plastic to cover the bed and towels every where.

HP07 · 07/11/2018 19:05

We had an emergency nappy situation in the way home from holiday one time and all I had available was 1 swim nappy and some sanitary towels after our little boy had done an inordinate amount of poos that day. I just lined the nappy with 2 sanitary towels and prayed. It worked. I would also sleep them on a few towels as it’s bound to leak a bit.

Greenskybluegrass · 07/11/2018 19:06

Do NOT put a bin bag on the bed, as suggested by a PP, it's a potential suffocation risk

caringcarer · 07/11/2018 19:07

If you rally can't think of someone who could drop a couple off for you then fold up soft hand towel in a diamond shape, then fold in half so like triangle with longest side at top. Put sanitary pad as a liner. Put baby on then pull top ends around tummy and other bit up between legs. If you have safety pin then all good if not use a clothes peg. Put swim nappy over top to hold it all together. Very annoying I expect your dh bought nappies and took them off with him without realizing.

Walkerbean16 · 07/11/2018 19:07

If you are near York I'm happy to pick some up and drop them off.

EmotionallyDestroyed · 07/11/2018 19:08

Are you in or near Harrogate?

HouseBuyingStress · 07/11/2018 19:09

Is this a covert advert for Amazon Prime?

Jackreacherswife · 07/11/2018 19:11

Can drop you some if anywhere near Preston.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 07/11/2018 19:12

Surely there is someone in your list of phone contacts who could pick you up a pack of nappies. Failing that you could get a taxi company to pick some up from a shop and drop them to your house. I am sure they would be willing to help.

I am surprised you have no nappies at all in the house when you have a baby don't most people have some in the cupboard, maybe you have some stored away from a previous shop?

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 07/11/2018 19:13

Where are you op? I

SuchAToDo · 07/11/2018 19:13

I don't know if your local taxi will do this ,but in my town if you ring a taxi and say can the taxi pick up something from the shop/collect a takeaway/collect a prescription etc the taxi driver will bring it to to your door and then you pay for the taxi fare and for the price of the item rom the shop, maybe you could ring a taxi and ask if they can bring your particular brand of nappies and then pay the driver for the taxi fare and the nappies when he comes,

If you do it, make sure you tell them what brand and size to get

Pearofwisdom · 07/11/2018 19:19

Please assess anything you use for choking/suffocation risk. Some if these suggestions are scary. Bin liners and cotton wool balls should not be used with unsupervised baby overnight!

stickytoffeepuddingandicecream · 07/11/2018 19:20

Facebook group would be my first call. Failing that place a sanitary towel inside the swim nappy and put a towel down on the bed. Swim nappies don’t hold wee at all, we discovered the hard way when we placed our daughter straight in the car after a trip to the beach!
