AIBU to not wear panty liners every day?

Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

Perhaps a stupid question but how do you get snugger pants that also cover your bum? I accidentally bought a size smaller a few weeks ago and they didn't cover my bum Blush

drspouse · 14/11/2018 11:22

Buy a style with more lycra or more bum coverage?

TheOrigBrave · 14/11/2018 11:33

My Sloggi pants are my more snug ones which I reserve for overnight wear when I need a pad as well as my Mooncup.

BertieBotts · 14/11/2018 11:39

My "sturdy" ones are affectionately nicknamed the granny pants... They don't sell them in supermarkets or fashionable shops, you need to go somewhere else. Maybe M&S would have the kind of thing. I got mine abroad so no help.

BertieBotts · 14/11/2018 11:42

Try M&S full brief or midi style. I've no idea why the full brief need to come up past the belly button, though.

Imissgmichael · 14/11/2018 11:47

Leapfrog for goodness sake read the thread.

MaMisled · 14/11/2018 11:47

Interesting as I've just found out my daughters of 19 and 21 wear them every day and so do all their friends. They cause thrush.

Ladytramp · 14/11/2018 17:28

they cause thrush

No they don't.

vdbfamily · 14/11/2018 20:12

I buy from Cheekywipes. Although from same company, some of mine move and some are fine and I do not know why. Cheeky wipes also sell washable baby wipes/ look paper which you keep in water in a tub with a drop of essential oil and freshen up after each week. Used cloths go in another container with water/ teatree oil and I chuck it all in a hot white wash.

ProfessorMoody · 14/11/2018 20:25

Fuck me, is this still going on??

I wear them every day and have never had thrush in almost 40 years.

vdbfamily · 14/11/2018 21:11

Just reread my message which has autocorrected several word s. Loo paper( not look) and wee not week. !!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 15/11/2018 14:55

Well glad about the thrush clear up
As I was about to blame them !!!!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 16/11/2018 13:57

they cause thrush

I got thrush when I first started using them. Think the scented ones can cause some sort of imbalance. Cannot wear them as they irritate me. Sanitary towels that is.

Mumfun · 16/11/2018 19:07

Yes you need snug fitting granny pants with good elastic -newish ones. And then the cloth pantyliners do not move around. Good ones are just like an extra layer of clothes.

MrMeSeeks · 16/11/2018 22:27

I wear them every day and have never had thrush in almost 40 years.

Me neither, and i wear the scented ones!

Lweji · 17/11/2018 02:08

Same here.

reallyanotherone · 17/11/2018 07:28

*they cause thrush

No they don't*

Is there any evidence eiher way? Apart from anecdotal?

Unless there has been a statistical study which correlates regular use of liners with candida then no one can say whether they do or don’t. It’s jut he said she said.

After all, there are many people who have smoked every day for 30 years and have never developed cancer. Doesn’t mean smoking doesn’t cause cancer though.

longwayoff · 17/11/2018 07:42

Good grief! Thats what your pants are for. Very unhealthy.

ProfessorMoody · 17/11/2018 08:18

@longwayoff

RTFT before making inane comments.

masterandmargarita · 17/11/2018 08:23

Not 'inane' - just a different point of view, which is what these forums are for.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/11/2018 08:25

This is quite an interesting thread still, you can see how many posters click on threads and leave a comment without attempting to read even the last couple of pages. Do they do that on all threads they comment on?

Lweji · 17/11/2018 08:26

Doesn’t mean smoking doesn’t cause cancer though.

Chemicals in smoking do act on cells and DNA, thus causing changes that lead to cancer.

Panty liners don't actually carry pathogens unless you use them to scrub your toilet before using them.
Panty liners absorb excess humidity, thus making the external environment less adequate for thrush.

But you're probably ignoring the role of everyone's beloved skinny jeans and leggings that are actually too tight against your nether regions and don't let them breathe properly and increase the temperature, thus creating an ideal breeding ground for thrush.

Lweji · 17/11/2018 08:30

Not 'inane' - just a different point of view, which is what these forums are for.

Not all points of view are equally valid.
If you're taking about how a dress fits a pp, then by all means your opinion is as valid as anyone else's.

If the issue is whether something causes a disease, then there are definitely inane opinions if not based on any evidence or logic thought.

woollyheart · 17/11/2018 10:12

On the thrush theme, isn't it likely that if you are prone to thrush, that plastic backed or scented panty liners will bring it on.

If you are lucky enough not to be prone to it, then you can wear them without any problem.

And probably tight jeans don't help either. Nor would wearing pjs every night. Neither did tights made from manmade fibres back when we used to wear them every day.

Lweji · 17/11/2018 10:24

On the subject of thrush, do read this
www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/yeast-infection/symptoms-causes/syc-20378999

And look up the difference between cause and risk factor.
