AIBU to not wear panty liners every day?

Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

No. My logic is that knickers are there to protect clothing, furniture and modesty. The thought of wearing something to protect my knickers is daft... will I ever need to wear something to protect the item that protects the item that I wear to protect my clothes, furniture and modesty?

Where will it stop... in the Court of King Caractacus?

I would only use them for the end of my period. Surely any discharge just washes off your pants in the washing machine? What's the big deal?

Sinead100 · 07/11/2018 14:33

YANBU. Never worn them in my life, and just change underwear daily 🤷🏽‍♀️

flapjackfairy · 07/11/2018 14:35

Wow so much judgement !
I am perfectly normal and not in the least bit terrified of my vagina but thanks for the concern! I just don't like the damp sensation at certain times of the month ( as in mucous when ovulating ).
If people are so concerned for the environment then why not give up loo roll , cotton buds , cotton wool and in fact make up etc in general i I don't use those things ( with the exception of loo roll that is ). but don't berate others who do !
There are lots of things we use that are not strictly necessary when you think about it so I guess we are all guilty in that way

Nothisispatrick · 07/11/2018 14:35

I used them towards the end of pregnancy as I had a lot of wet discharge and you can feel the dampness more on underwear than liners.

Other than that I’ve never needed or wanted them. As pp said it’s just a huge amount of waste.

Bananacakes · 07/11/2018 14:35

They are not very good for you, they are full of scents, plastics and gels and create an unpleasant environment.
They are not good for the environment.
My daughter was so excited when she discovered they were a thing...
“Mum that’s so cool! You don’t need to change your pants!”
Err no dear, that’s not the plan.

dementedpixie · 07/11/2018 14:35

I would rather change a liner one or 2 times a day than have to change my pants. I don't like the feel of damp pants so liners work for me

PurdysChocolate · 07/11/2018 14:36

No, only wear them at the tail end of my period.

redexpat · 07/11/2018 14:36

Before dc2 I used them on the last day of my period when there really wasnt much left but the blood would stain my knickers. Oh and when i was pg and the secretions were shall we say surprising. Since dc2 I wear them everyday because I smell different and stronger.

PoesyCherish · 07/11/2018 14:37

I wear them every day and feel so gross if i don't. I really don't like the damp pants feeling if I don't wear them. No judgement on others who don't wear them though

lilyblue5 · 07/11/2018 14:37

This is asking for thrush, surely??? And a totally waste. I wash my knickers everyday Confused

Sammysees · 07/11/2018 14:38

Of course everyone has the choice. And everyone obviously has their own opinions too. I was asking because I’d never heard of it before and thought maybe I was a manky minge Grin

BTW you can get washable panty liners, I have a few.

astoundedgoat · 07/11/2018 14:39

No. I shock horror just change my knickers every day.

lilyblue5 · 07/11/2018 14:39

Gosh that sounded way judgy which I didn’t mean! A friend does this, I guess it’s different for everyone. Didn’t mean my reply to sound harsh!

dementedpixie · 07/11/2018 14:40

I wash my knickers every day too! I don't want to wash multiple pairs though so I wear liners

StarfishSandwich · 07/11/2018 14:40

I thought the whole point of a gusset was to act a bit like a drip tray! 😂 When I was pregnant I had to wear pantyliners (cloth) because of the sheer volume of fluid that came out me. Thankfully post-baby we’re back to pants being perfectly adequate on their own. They get washed after one wear after all! The amount of landfill waste that wearing disposable pantyliners daily would produce is really worrying.

dementedpixie · 07/11/2018 14:40

And no, I don't get thrush

tiggerkid · 07/11/2018 14:41

I wear them daily and have been for ages like your friend but I don't judge those, who don't. I agree with ladies, who say it's a personal thing. I just don't feel fresh without them and will continue wearing them regardless of whether others do or don't. I encourage you and everyone else to do whatever suits too.

Sammysees · 07/11/2018 14:41

Obviously some women are a lot more moist than others. I feel a bit deflated that I’m not moist enough Wink

What?? Is she on any drugs?? 😯

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 07/11/2018 14:42

I always do, even though they are totally clean - I don't feel properly clean without it for some reason!

Racecardriver · 07/11/2018 14:42

Never wear them. On a fundamental level wouldn’t they make sex a bit awkward?

riotlady · 07/11/2018 14:42

No, my mum does so I did for a bit as a teenager but found them really irritating. Far better for your vag (and the environment!) to have nice breathable cotton pants next to it I would have thought

tiggerkid · 07/11/2018 14:42

just change my knickers every day.

I wear them and still change knickers daily :) Wearing pantyliners is not something that people do instead of changing knickers. At least not all people :)
