AIBU?

AIBU to not wear panty liners every day?

Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

I wouldn't consider this, mainly for environmental reasons. Also because my minge is not 'manky' or 'unfresh'. Angry

Everyone saying "I just change my knickers every day" SO DO PEOPLE WHO WEAR PANTY LINERS

Yes I wear them have done most days since I was around 16. I hate slightly shifty dischargy knickers. I like that the liner catches my discharge and my foof smells of flowers and not musty discharge. It's a personal choice, everyone who says it's unreasonable and not normal etc are stupid - it might not be normal for you but it's certainly not abnormal. Also those saying it's so bad for the environment blah blah blah I hope you are all eco warriors who live in trees otherwise you're no better. Pot kettle black.

I don't wear them and have never needed to!

I will feel an obligation to wear them when DH does too. It's not all glitter and rainbows that come out of his bits Grin

Gosh, some really judgey comments.

I wear them every day. I have hormonal issues that cause excess moisture and if I don't, I end up with wet trousers, which isn't pleasant.

However, unless I'm on my period, I wear washable pads which are readily available online. As I use one every day the thought of sending that amount to landfill horrifies me.

All women are different. We don't all have no-leaky, perfectly dry vaginas.

I've never worn one in my life and I'm 42! The 'manky' method of just washing my undies and wearing a clean pair each day has worked perfectly well for me so far.

Haha manky minge!
A minge is still a minge wether your wearing a liner or not....
I wear a liner before periods and then tampax or a pad for periods, I do wear a liner now most days as I'm pregnant... and I have been known to piss my pants when sneezing... yay!

But I've never known anyone to wear them everyday, just for the sake of wearing one

Anyway surely soap & water would prevent "manky minge" better than a liner 🙀

I don’t agree with her calling you manky. It’s each person’s choice but it’s also wrong to slate women that do.

Another nope here!

Unless they’re washable I’m horrified at the amount of landfill that would create.

I just change and wash my knickers every day. Panty liners are fucking horrible!

Rudgie47 · 07/11/2018 14:47

I've only heard of women wearing them for incontinence problems. Maybe your friend is incontinent OP?

OoohSmooch · 07/11/2018 14:48

Yuck, I'd hate to wear them all the time! Cotton panties all the way so your vagina can breathe (my own theory on this but I swear year ago I'd read something similar!)

I wear them every day too because otherwise I'll sometimes end up with wet underwear and clothes which feels horrible. I use washable ones though, and yes, of course I still change my underwear and wash everyday.

I think this is just another case of people thinking everyone else's bodies are the same as theirs.

That's bonkers, never done this. Absolutely no need for it as long as you wash normally and wear clean pants!

@Rudgie47 seriously????? Hmm tena lady pads are not the same as panty liners!!

Sitranced · 07/11/2018 14:50

MrTrebus - Maybe the discharge would stop if you stopped using the liners?

Wow so many judgy comments on here. Has it not occurred to you that some women do need to wear them everyday as pants are not always enough?

The conversation only came up as we were in tescos together when she bulk bought some. I took the piss out of her incontinence and she called me a manky minge. All in good humour. We take the piss out of each other a lot. But it did make me wonder if it was normal. It seems as though a lot do and a lot don’t. I guess it’s not something that would usually come up in conversation which was why I asked. I thought I was the only one not doing this!

Kew do you think that the OP's friend, who started wearing them aged 15, was one of those women?

Sallystyle · 07/11/2018 14:51

No. For me It would be thrush waiting to happen.

How many times do people change them in a day? Think of the expense and hassle.

If you suffer with a bit of incontinence then it makes sense.

I think they smell. The cotton in knickers absorbs better imo.

Never even BOUGHT panty liners!

Why on earth would anyone need them every day?

Report
MrTrebus · 07/11/2018 14:52

@Sitranced oh yes because that makes perfect medical sense well done. Clearly you don't have PCOS or are just a different type of woman. Shock horror we all have different levels of discharge!
