@Nakedavenger74

I think

They over expanded too rapidly, couldn't cover their overheads and had to cut quality.

Many have closed. Huge losses.

Pizza Hut (one in Leeds city centre) gave me a terrible tummy bug some years ago.

Pizza Hut (Traffors Centre) went with my vegetarian DF and she found a big piece of meat on her pizza.

A takeaway in Birmimgham which gave us a mouldy pizza. I was pregnant with DS1.

peachsquish · 27/10/2018 22:45

Mosque kitchen in Edinburgh. Weirdest looking and tasting chicken I've ever had.

longwayoff · 27/10/2018 22:56

Hugh Fearnley thingummy in Winchester. Awful. Sticky tables, smeary cutlery, slovenly staff, half hour wait without so much as a drink. A biscuit came with dessert that you could have tiled a roof with, god knows how old it was. However, we may have caught it on a bad day as I've heard others rate it.

Pumpkintopf · 27/10/2018 23:01

We walked out of Hugh Fearnley thingummy's place in Axminster. Dirty, sticky tables and waited ages to have not a single member of staff acknowledge we existed.

GunpowderGelatine · 27/10/2018 23:29

Jamie's Italian in Harrogate. £14 for six pieces of Ravioli, £17 for a steak the size of a playing card. Over-salted shite. Fuck you, Jamie.

Ninoo25 · 27/10/2018 23:35

Frankie and Bennys and also Chiquitos

al2002 · 27/10/2018 23:39

Frankie & Bennys , Nandos & Jamie's Italian. Horrible.
Pizza Hut 🤢

thenightsky · 27/10/2018 23:53

DH said he can't recall the name, but it was posh place in London where he got served a vegetarian meal of plain pasta, boiled potatoes and cauliflower, so basically at white meal. It was 20 years ago and he's not forgotten Grin

Violetroselily · 27/10/2018 23:58

Cubana in Farringdon. The cured meats platter was like a packet of supermarket ham. Crap dishes and terrible service. Refused to pay the service charge that was added to the bill and got into an argument with the waitress.

luckycat007 · 28/10/2018 00:01

I've got a couple. An Italian in a small town in East Lothian Scotland. Cold fish on a pizza. It was pretty nasty. But the ultimate was a branch of red hot Buffett..we were daft enough to go there on Xmas day one year...

🤢

Sugarformyhoney · 28/10/2018 00:03

Also the worst afternoon tea was st patisserie Valerie- warm sandwich fillings, rock hard cakes, super rude staff and dirty, sticky tables

luckycat007 · 28/10/2018 00:03

Oh prezzo is pretty honking too 🤢☠️

DevonCherry · 28/10/2018 00:09

Rainforest Cafe was probably the worst I have eaten. Jamie's Diner comes in at no.2.
You can tell a lot about a restaurant by its general cleanliness and that of the toilets, I think.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/10/2018 00:13

Back in the 80s, I lived in Manchester, and a friend and I went to an Italian - on Deansgate, I think - and I ordered a pancake for dessert, and when it arrived, it was in a bowl - well, I say in, actually it was entirely rigid, like a sheet of cardboard, and rested over the top of the bowl!

chavvyrestaurant · 28/10/2018 00:19

Ash's Balti, Wakefield Road, Ackworth
The most "English" Balti ever. If Creamy mild curries & naans smeared with butter are your thing.....

Agustarella · 28/10/2018 00:24

I have not read the thread, but it has to be a meal at one of the Marco Pierre White "cheap" restaurants back in the 80's when as a vegetarian I was served a plate of beige (at enormous cost)

Ugh. I think I had the same thing, though fortunately not at enormous cost, at a Café Rouge in the late 90s. It was the only vegetarian thing on the menu: butter beans in tasteless bechamel sauce. Fortunately it was tiny.

The worst considering the price was Brown's in Oxford.

They win the prize for all-time worst vegetarian option: a giant yorkshire pudding filled with watered-down ketchup. Brown's is both the worst place I've ever eaten and (by far) the worst place I've ever worked in. Also the loudest.

bumblebee39 · 28/10/2018 00:26

Dominoes or macdonalds shudders

NameChanger22 · 28/10/2018 00:29

A pub restaurant in Leicester. The mashed potato was smash with a strange flavour and I nearly broke a tooth on the Yorkshire pudding. Everything else was very dry.

LaCarmencita · 28/10/2018 00:44

I think my parents had the worst dining experience of anyone I ever met. Before they were married they went to a Chinese in Highgate, London. They were eating their meal and my mother commented on how the meat did not taste like chicken. My father believes it was cat they were eating. My mother loves cats and was horrified. Not long after that the place closed down. Turns out they had been closed down for cooking and serving stray cats to customers, passing it off as chicken.

So I can completely believe the dog microchip story.

Ioki · 28/10/2018 00:49

Pub attached to premier inn - waiter came up with menus but apparently there was no set food and it was a buffet of: sad looking salad, lukewarm tomato pasta, child’s portion of burger, sausage, half cooked fries and fish. Weirdest meal I’ve ever had in a premier inn...

Cosmo - our local one shut down because of the dismal rating they got, at their latest food inspection they found dead pigeons in the kitchen, rusty cooking utensils and rat/mice droppings. Food has always been half empty, chicken pink in the middle, and the chocolate fountain stinks of dogshit! When it first opened it was fab but now - no. It rebranded to Nines in an attempt to avoid being shut altogether I think but it’s exactly the same. They close at 5pm and re open at 8pm for the evening, too, last time we were there we were rushed out it was obvious they didn’t want us there!

Frankie and Benny’s, the meals in my local have always been nice but went to one slightly further away and it was manky. Ditto harvester I think you get good places and not so good.. local harvester is quite nice food wise but you do wait AGES for food and everything seems to be off the menu!

Angie169 · 28/10/2018 00:52

Local pub where me and DH ordered a sharing platter of breaded garlic mushrooms , chicken goujons, corn on the cob , chips , onion rings etc, the mushrooms were just normal fried ones , no garlic , the corn on the cob was them mini / baby corn things that you would put in a stir fry , the chips were frozen skinny fries ( about 6 each ) and the goujons were bog standard chicken dippers that were still frozen in the centre !
We complained and they said they would put the goujons back in the fryer for us ! when DH said no you will cook us some fresh ones they said they would have to charge us for them .

we got up and walked out

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 28/10/2018 00:59

Planet Hollywood in London
I took my ranger guides and it was awful
Cold dried out food that All came way apart and left 3 girls sat there for most of the meal without food!

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 28/10/2018 01:00

Worst takeaway was the happy kebab in canton in Cardiff that gave me campylobacter

Kaybush · 28/10/2018 01:03

We went to a local trendy restaurant on New Years Day three years ago with eight friends, for a late breakfast. It wasn't busy but when we all ordered the full English breakfast, the manager came over to say they'd run out of sausages.

I ended up buying the sausages myself in the local Tesco's and getting it taken off the bill!! The manager and staff didn't even thank me!

Needless to say it closed down six months later!
