I’ve only been to Hutchesons once, when it was fairly new. The food was good but the service was shocking, and I’m not someone who is usually fussed about service. We were given menus but not offered any drinks for 15 mins when it was a hot day! Usually places are very keen to give you drinks.

Pressed send too soon! They got my dessert wrong too.

Alston Bar and Beef is my favourite steak place in Glasgow, nice gins too.

I like Pizza Express too. I didn't lament the passing of ASK which I thought was a bit rubbish. Quite like Zizzis, did like Strada but it got very bland.

The Toby carvery chain..took.kids there in the summer... the buffet was a mess..all the food going off the serving hatch area spilling on the floor..grim .

Greasy table tops..greasy menus...disgusting floor... waitress who looked drugged.

Couldn't wait to scarper....Angry

Malmaison in Aberdeen - all style and no substance. Lots of exposed ducting, part open kitchen, glassed in storage areas so that you can admire the ingredients. I got a burnt, dried out and tasteless burger and cold chips and an indifferent shrug when I complained. DH has been several times with work and it’s been shit every time.

A little restaurant in a village in Oxfordshire managed to serve a selection of gravel in its fish pie, and came up with a range of inventive excuses for it.

An Italian in Norwich that put so much garlic in its pasta dish that it was inedible - apparently “chef always makes it like this and we’ve never had a complaint before” Confused

The Wong Kei on Wardour Street was the place to go for cheap food and insults back in the 80s. The more likely the waiters thought you were to do a runner, the higher floor you were taken to.

F&Bs used to be good (although service was always slow - “don’t be hungry” was our code), but the quality now is pretty dire.

Jamie’s Italian was the most disappointing. I’ve been twice, the first time, a good few years ago in Leeds, we were full of hope and the menu read promisingly and the waiter was charming, I couldnt believe the tasteless yet salty, dry food that turned up. Went to another one a couple of years later because DD1 wanted to go. Less friendly service but equally poor food, really dismal. All wanky style over substance.

A Caribbean restaurant on Cowley Road in Oxford about 20 years ago. One of the owners was too stoned to do more than flick his eyes in our general direction when we came in. His wife, eventually, stumbled over and told us she'd have to have a look in the freezer and see what they had. They had one portion of goat curry, one of jerk chicken and a couple of flying fish - fine, we said, we'll have that. It was cold, greasy, the chicken was like chewing gum and the curry tasted of mould. We were laughing so hard we kind of enjoyed it anyway.

I think I remember that place - just up from the Zodiac? There were a lot of ropey places on the Cowley Road though.

Greensleeves · 31/10/2018 22:41

it looked really cool from the outside...loads of lanterns and hanging fabrics etc! Probably is the same place :D

Worst: Zizis, Jamie Oliver’s Cardiff, any Frankie & Bennys, most places in Clifton & WSM (both these areas seem to have huge issues of cleanliness in most restaurants there)

Best: Casamia, Alchemist, Bills (kingston upon Thames one) Marco Pierre Congresbury, Globe Frampton Cotterell, Anywhere in Portishead (bar bottelinos) Moksh, Bar44.
