I came on to say Frankie & Benny’s and Jamie’s Italian, but I see it’s almost unanimous!

I can’t understand how either of them are still in business. I had the misfortune of eating at Frankie & Benny’s a lot while I was at uni as someone always had a voucher code, so it was cheap and I was always overruled. Horrible food and even worse service. I’ve only ever eaten at Jamie’s once and that was bad enough. They somehow managed to fuck up chips.

Oh dear, ignore me. I clearly need new glasses! Grin

Mummyundecided · 27/10/2018 21:16

Toby Carvery, bar none. Rancid, disgusting inedible meat. Went once at DS’s request. Never again.
The greed from fellow diners was enough to make me feel ill, the food itself more so.
Never ever again.

A little chef on the a11 just outside Bury At Edmunds. It was so awful we got the giggles. It was so sparsely furnished; no carpet or curtains and what seemed to be single glazed windows with juggernauts roaring past. The food was also awful, but that was an aside really. This was only about 18months ago. It has closed down now.

I'm sad about the deterioration of Frankie & Bennies! Our local one was so popular that you knew you'd have an hour wait for a table but it was fine as the music was epic and they had a well stocked, buzzing bar. Food was always excellent. No idea what went wrong with it. I went to one recently in Dorset as I was away for a few days with a friend and we had 3 kids between us and thought it would be easy. Kids were happy enough, but the food was utterly dire, no atmosphere. I couldn't fault the Italian waiter who clearly thought he was working at The Ivy...he was fab...but it was such a let down food wise and McDonald's burgers would have been far nicer. Such a shame!

You've just reminded me greenlanes - I stayed at the Indigo Hotel in Newcastle last year and ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant. I had the fish pie, which I think cost about £16 so I was expecting something special.

It was very far from special. The dryest, lumpiest, blandest, stodgiest fish pie I've ever had the misfortune to eat. I felt like I'd eaten a brick. The Young's Admiral Pies you can pick up for about a quid in the supermarket are far better. Although I got a free santa hat so it's not all bad I suppose....

The steaks are great at MPW. Just avoid the fish pie.

Ooooo I love this. I've some random ones to add. Went to see my cousin at uni when i was about 15. Went to an Indian and I ordered a prawn curry. The sauce was warm but the prawns were cold/still frozen and tasteless. Ended up being passed bits of everyone else's meals.
Ordered from our regular Chinese a few years back. Hour later and no meal so we ring back. No answer. Try again and permanent dial tone. Turns out they'd taken on too many orders so just shut down for the night!

Boobahs · 27/10/2018 21:29

@ALongHardWinter It wasn't Rich's Cider Farm was it?

My in-laws used to have a caravan in Brean and we all went there once and enjoyed the food. Went again a few months later and MIL and I both ordered chicken and both breasts were absolutely raw in the middle. It didn't go down well with me being 6 months pregnant and MIL on chemo for bowel cancer.

TillyMint81 · 27/10/2018 21:32

Oh and we've had several bad meals at our local F & B's (you'd think we'd learn!)
One time we arrived and waited ages for our order to be taken. Another family came and were seated in the booth next to us. They had their order taken after ours. When our meal arrived my meal wasn't the right one. Turns out the family behind ordered the exact same as us except the mums ordered differently. I waited and waited for mine and it arrived as the kids got their desserts. When theirs arrived we heard the man kick off and realised they had put the meal they tried to serve me under the lamps and tried to give it to her half an hour later!

Malotkins · 27/10/2018 21:34

A cafe in Inverness where my bacon roll included a dead blue bottle.

ItsAndTarts · 27/10/2018 21:35

Food wise red hot Buffett Manchester. Was really looking forward to it as my dad raves about it but was awful weird combos of food congealed and rank. Spent the night on the loo.
Ambiance wise a Chinese overlooking Weymouth beach. It was freezing and they had one poxy portable heater it really was horrific

TillyMint81 · 27/10/2018 21:43

Actually I've just remembered THE worst. Rosso in Manchester. Booked a group of mums to go out for the afternoon on a set menu. Arrived. The doorman was very nice. Walked in. Seated and waited for ages to have anyone come over. Managed to catch someone's eye (all stood round the bar chatting. Not many people in) reluctantly took our drinks order.
Came back and we had to catch them again to order the main. Was ok but not great. Staff rude and dismissive.
Charged us more than we agreed on because two people couldn't make it. Fair enough but bit petty given it was empty.
And then we waited twenty minutes for our change and in the end had to ASK FOR IT. The waiter came over and slammed our change down on the table. It was horrendous. They definitely thought they were better than us. Almost ruined the one night out we managed to organise in months.

Catspyjamazzzz · 27/10/2018 22:00

Not worst as in flavour.
A hotel for ‘afternoon tea’ in Statford where they served us a single scone and tea each.
We then spent an hour arguing with a waitress that wasn’t ‘afternoon tea’ and was much more expensive than ordering a tea and scone separately. ‘But that’s what afternoon tea is’.
Exhausting and after a long time she threw some cake at us. Ridiculous

Essexgirlupnorth · 27/10/2018 22:01

Had a chicken burger from Burger King that was mouldy would only go back if it was the only place to eat.

One Christmas party was a disaster took forever to get our food mains didn't come out to 10 when we sat down at 7:30 gave us extra fizz so everyone was very drunk someone people had to leave to get trains before they ate. Food wasn't great either. Did get a partial refund I don't think anyone use the money of a meal in January voucher.

Nanny0gg · 27/10/2018 22:05

My one and only meal in Frankie and Benny's. It wasn't worth complaining as it was clear the staff didn't give a damn. Cold pasta, tomato sauce which was reheated tinned tomato, dirty table, kids pack that had been coloured in my someone else's child.

Yes it is. We've managed to get through some of the starters, had incorrect, late, badly cooked mains and had a full refund.

1CantPickAName · 27/10/2018 22:12

Any Indian takeaway ever! All sauce and no meat, recent example was a chicken korma with 6 small cubes of chicken, couldn’t have even been a chicken breast amount.

In the summer I went to a lovely pub carvery in Essex, don’t remember exactly where. There were 10 of us, I ordered the vegetarian option of nut bake which sounded delicious. Everyone else’s very nice roast dinners arrived and eventually my plate of vegetables did too! The waitress had taken my order wrong and thought I ordered vegetables, I still laugh now

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 27/10/2018 22:14

A pub on the Isle of skye. Dire.

ItsAndTarts · 27/10/2018 22:16

Doesn't surprise me all the votes for Frankie and bennys and they are clearly struggling with the constant offers they are emailing at the minute

Pixie2015 · 27/10/2018 22:18

It’s not my worse but as there is so much negativity about Jamie’s Italian ; every time I’ve been I’ve gone to order the chicken Caesar salad so be told it’s brown thigh meat so at last minute opted for an alternative.

My biggest let down is the waiting time for food at Bella Italia / cafe rouge and hucks center Parcs Penrith not very family orientated

Nakedavenger74 · 27/10/2018 22:19

I'm so sad about Jamie's Italian. No longer in UK so haven't visited for a while but the St Martins Lane one in London was a regular haunt. The food was always amazing (I'm reminded of their rabbit linguine regularly), it's was always buzzing with great wait staff and bar staff. The garlic chips were legendary. What the hell happened?

hartof · 27/10/2018 22:20

Farmhouse inn - absolutely disgusting!

flossietoot · 27/10/2018 22:24

Frankie and Bennys. Over priced shite

IAmBeyonceAlways · 27/10/2018 22:25

Sparros in time Square. A big The Office fan so thought we would go there as it was in an episode. Buffet was charged by the lb but looked from the signs like $6.99 a plate (who the hell knows how much a pound of food looks like??) Not much choice, 3 fairly small plates of food (ds had a small chicken leg, plain spaghetti and small slice of pizza for example) cost $54. So disappointed

Nakedavenger74 · 27/10/2018 22:26

Worst was a Thai in A small midlands town. There for work. Me and colleague arrived by train and went out to find dinner. Walked in at 7.50pm to be told scornfully it was very late and we could only have main courses.
The other three tables left within 2 minutes of us sitting down so we were the only people left in the restaurant. They promptly switched the music off, half of the lights and started hoovering round our feet. 5 minutes later they threw 2 tiny pad thais at us and the bill and made us pay while we ate. All the staff stood behind the bar with their coats on staring at us.
We left 10 minutes later at 8.10 followed by all the staff and they locked up as we left, half finished meals on the table

SamWidges · 27/10/2018 22:27

Cafe Rouge (Gun Warph Keys, Portsmouth). I took the kids there years ago. Truly awful. Burnt food, filthy tables, pissed off staff, no care. Never again. It serves as our reference of all bad eateries ie "Is this worse than Cafe Rouge?"
