Pub called the King and Queen in a tiny village place in Hants. Hamble or Hambledon or something.

Overpriced, shit food served on plastic plates. The burgers were full of gristle, the salad was limp and looked like it had been in the sun for hours. The chips were cold and when we asked for napkins the waitress rolled her eyes. Dreadful place, felt totally unwelcome.

foxyliz26 · 28/10/2018 01:09

We sent out for a Donner Kebab , we were ill after just a few mouthfuls, both up all night , left the kebabs in the kitchen , next morning the meat was bright green in colour

caller the council in who took said kebabs away , letter back from Council stated there was, " unknown ", meat products in the Donner meat
the place closed down ,shortly after

Oh and Nando's, anywhere. Endless versions of battery reared chicken. Who would want to eat that??

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 28/10/2018 01:59

We went to a terrible vegan restaurant in Norfolk that was also very overpriced. It was such a disappointment. The food was bland, badly cooked and loads was missing from the menu.

We'd gone with recommendations but nothing was available. It was run by friends so it was embarrassing too. I kept on expecting more food to arrive as the meals seemed incomplete.

AmIthatbloodycold · 28/10/2018 01:26

Restaurant in Perth called Broth3rs. Yes with the 3 in the title

Looks like it should be an Italian but the food is the worst I've ever tasted. I had cannelloni that was literally a bowl of tomatoey mush. A cup of tea at the end that I swear was dishwater

I often see tourists outside reading the menu and going in, which is a shame as there are loads of better places close by

StubbleTurnips · 28/10/2018 06:13

OUr Frankie and bennys is ok, the one at trafford park served my breakfast fried egg that had been nowhere near a pan. Literally an egg cracked on a plate - me and DH laugh now. I was 7m pregnant at the time and had to explain to the waiter that it was fried and I couldn't eat raw egg. Genuinely nuts.

Also Head of the River (I think) in Oxford on the river, bloody awful.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/10/2018 07:14

Disappointed that nobody has mentioned Loch Fyne in Egham. I last went quite a few years ago but it was filthy, had unimaginably bad service and eventually serviced tiny portions of truly dreadful food. The only place I've ever left a tripadvisor report Shock

Monty27 · 28/10/2018 07:28

I got railroaded into going for a cheeky nandos Hmm once. My only remark was that there was no chicken on my chicken. Cheeky indeed
I've never been to one since! Shock

HariboLecter · 28/10/2018 07:33

Fayre & Square walked out after waiting an hour for food to arrive, complained online and they sent vouchers.
Tried another branch, got food this time which was dire. Didn't bother complaining cos I didn't want more vouchers for it.

Reading this thread reminds me why I rarely eat out, my DH says I am boring but I really resent spending £20 a head (or a lot more) for something that at best is just not very nice or could give you food poisoning. And I hate getting poor customer service, I work in customer services myself so I know how easy it is to offer good service but I can’t stand being served by bored teenagers who just grunt ‘are you all right there’ instead of knowing how to properly take an order.

Actually agree with others that getting a McDonalds is usually a better option, rigorous training schemes & consistency, not expensive & if something is wrong it will be changed immediately (I do understand you can get the occasional rogue McD).

Kemer2018 · 28/10/2018 07:53

A local 2 pub chain.
Their food is normally fantastic but i stupidly ordered crab linguine.
More like crab shell linguine. It was inedible, awful.

Lizzie48 · 28/10/2018 07:57

There was a hotel restaurant in Whitby, North Yorkshire, where we went when DD1 was 1 year old (8 years ago, so it may not be like that now). The fish and chips was so greasy it almost wasn't edible. DD1 ended up with the squits, which kind of spoiled the holiday. It was galling, as it wasn't as if there weren't other really good fish restaurants in Whitby.

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 28/10/2018 08:02

In defence of F&B as they're getting a pounding here - I went to a Frankie and Benny's last year that was good. The service was excellent - we mentioned that we had cinema tickets - they assured us we'd be finished in time for the showing, and gave us really fast service. The food wasn't anything you'd rave about but was perfectly pleasant.

pyramidbutterflyfish · 28/10/2018 08:03

Nando’s just before closing on a Friday night. We ordered, they said they’d run out of chicken. Nando’s running out of chicken!? How we laughed. 5 minutes later they “found” some. We scoffed it. Within an hour, everyone was throwing up.

pyramidbutterflyfish · 28/10/2018 08:04

In retrospect there was some contributory negligence on our part. Anyhow, when Nando’s say they are out of chicken, don’t argue!

shearwater · 28/10/2018 08:06

I never eat at bad restaurants as I always look at reviews first.

Swishswish26 · 28/10/2018 08:07

Jamie’s Italian in Leeds- the portions were absolutely tiny. This was about four years ago and cannot understand how the chain is still going.

GoatWithACoat · 28/10/2018 08:10

A pub in Herts on the big roundabout near the Brookfield centre. Anyone that lives there will know the one as it’s been taken over and renamed so many times. It used to be a Toby. It was called something like ‘Fire Kitchen’ or similar and I ordered a hot smoked salmon salad. It cost £13 and was literally just a cold salmon fillet you can buy in Tesco, straight out the packet and dumped on a few leaves.

I called the waitress over and asked what did the ‘hot’ mean if the salmon was cold. She rolled her eyes at me and said ‘well I would have expected it be cold as it’s a SALAD’ really rudely.

We walked out and never went back. As we were leaving the people next to us were also leaving and said ‘that was a load of overpriced shit’

It closed down shortly after.

MrsA2015 · 28/10/2018 08:14

@Cahira I’ve been been trying to think of that name for nearly TWO YEARS!!!! we went and looked around the farm and picked strawberries hoping to stop after and have some nice food. We were told they didn’t serve hot food till 6??? And we could have desserts that were there .

I can’t complain about those because they were absolutely huge, I had a dinner sized swrving of lemon meringue pie!!! We were sugared up and slightly annoyed but glad to have found the dessert fridge from my dreams.

areyoubeingserviced · 28/10/2018 08:22

This thread has really put me off eating out.

PickAChew · 28/10/2018 08:22

Most recent disappointment was pomodoro rosso in John Lewis. Dh paid £12 for a lump of cheesy bread. My salmon salad was a small piece of (admittedly nicely cooked) salmon on top of a whole bag of raw baby spinach. It was supposed to be garnished with eggs mimosa but instead I got an egg boiled so long that the yolk was pale and chalky with the worst black ring around it I'd ever seen.

It's since closed.

Xiaoxiong · 28/10/2018 08:29

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I wonder if Loch Fyne has had a change of owners? I had an iffy experience years ago at one, but I went to the Ascot Woodside one last Friday and it was great! DS and I had oysters that were so fresh they could have come out of the sea that minute and they washed and let him keep the shells, I had a whole grilled John Dory which was perfect and the fish on ice at the counter were very fresh as well with sparkling clear eyes. DH had a fish curry which he said was excellent as well. Only complaint is that the chips were pale and had clearly come out of a bag in the freezer rather than made à maison (though at least they were cooked).

Octonautstotherescue · 28/10/2018 08:29

Italian restaurant in queenstown NZ. Actual chunks of raw garlic in cooked pasta. When we complained the owner was really aggressive and said that's how they eat it in Italy (!) where he had trained and made a huge scene in the restaurant in front to of all the other diners. We left sharpish.

Neolara · 28/10/2018 08:35

As a vegetarian, too many to mention..... For example, the smart restaurant that had got rave reviews in a national newspaper that presented me with a slice of boiled celsriac, a table spoon of couscous and two small leaves of iceberg lettuce as a main. No sauce or embellishments of any kind. Or the one starred michelin restaurant where the only veggie option on the (admittedly special offer) lunch menu was pesto and pasta. Was quite nice pesto and pasta but not noticeably different from the kind I had regularly from Tesco. The list could go on and on.

Shockers · 28/10/2018 08:36

goatwithacoat, not excusing her rudeness, or the quality of your meal, but I think the hot, or cold in front of smoked salmon is referring to the manner in which it was smoked, rather than its temperature on serving.
