Aibu to not want to show my sister our bedroom

First house, a long time coming. We’ve now been in for a couple of months. My sister is coming over tomorrow. I don’t want to show her our bedroom (plus shower room). Now that it’s been lived in for a bit it feels like dh and my private space.

It’s not anything to do with not trusting her or whatever but I just don’t want anyone but me and dh in there. Aibu?

If not how do I tell her ‘it feels too private to let you in’.

Your room, your (weird) rules :)

Maelstrop · 26/10/2018 18:37

Bizarre! It’s your sister. Better to work out why you’re feeling so protective. It’s weird.

Sexnotgender · 26/10/2018 18:37

Very odd. Random visitor doesn’t get to see your bedroom but not showing your sister is strange.

PotteringAlong · 26/10/2018 18:37

Weird. You can’t say she can’t see it because it’s too private, you’ll look like a loon.

Kardashianlove · 26/10/2018 18:38

Really really strange! I can’t imagine my sister buying a new house and not having a look round. Loads of people have seen our bedroom, people staying, friends just wanting a nose round the house, etc.

But it’s your house and totally up to you but she will probably think it’s really odd!

poppingalf · 26/10/2018 18:45

What on earth.

Kittykat93 · 26/10/2018 18:49

So fucking weird Grin but hey, your house your choice I guess!

MissMudskipper · 26/10/2018 18:49

Each to their own but I find that really odd especially as it's your sister Confused I agree with Maelstrop work out why you feel so protective....

HashTagLil · 26/10/2018 18:51

YABU

VictoriaBun · 26/10/2018 18:51

Just hide the whips, chains, and black leathers.... She'll never know BlushGrin

LizzieBennettDarcy · 26/10/2018 18:52

Own up, OP, you've got a mirror on the ceiling or a sex swing Grin

Tahani · 26/10/2018 18:53

Very very weird

DailyMaui · 26/10/2018 18:53

need to see a picture of the room to judge...

Ooh I was going to start a thread about this as I have come across people like this in the past and wondered how typical it was. I don't care who sees our room - its just a room with a bed! But some people are definitely cagey about it.

Chelseajunior · 26/10/2018 18:59

Very odd Confused

CherryPavlova · 26/10/2018 18:59

Worlds gone crazy!

Lookatyourwatchnow · 26/10/2018 19:01

If I was her, I would assume that:

  1. It's a shit tip in there.
  2. You had weird sex stuff in there.
blueskiespls · 26/10/2018 19:01

Red Room of Pain ?😲

Icequeen01 · 26/10/2018 19:02

Sorry, another one who thinks this is weird. My sister recently moved house and when I visited her I got the full tour (as I would do for her if it were the other way round). She showed me her and her DP's bedroom. We are sisters, why wouldn't she?

Caprisunorange · 26/10/2018 19:03

I think you’re massively overthinking this, but that’s sort of understandable for a first house you’ve been looking forward to a long time. But seriously, just get over it and show her around

Winterfellismyhome · 26/10/2018 19:05

Is it because you're going to dump your mountain of dirty washing in there and shut the door?... I definitely dont do this btw..

wombatron · 26/10/2018 19:06

I actually don't think you're odd. When we moved in and renovated we had everyone and their dog through looking at every room and cupboard. Now, because it was infamous in our circle (very extensively renovated house), people still so want to see - I don't show them the bedroom. It's my bedroom, it's my private space and it's not for people to look in.

I was brought up with bedrooms being a safe space, we didn't enter anyone's rooms without asking. If you don't want to, don't show her.

Shoxfordian · 26/10/2018 19:06

Odd but you can refuse to let her see it if you really want

TidyDancer · 26/10/2018 19:06

I think this is very weird.
