Aibu headteacher undermining me

I think I know how I'm going to respond to this but would like some mn opinions first!
Scenario: child participates in something at school that I'm not happy with. I tell school I'm not happy for them to participate and they say fine (think religion based) . Next thing I hear is that my ds has had a meeting with the head where he's told why it is fine and he will participate.
For context ds is 7. I'm now more annoyed by the heads actions than the thing itself. Am I right in thinking that if the head wanted to discuss it, it should be with me?as it is I feel our family values and parenting decisions have been undermined and I don't know if I trust other issues to be dealt with properly.
Am I over reacting?

Allah is the same God as yours. Also, that phrase is not appropriate. YABU.

Disquieted1 · 25/10/2018 18:25

Is it a Mormon school discussing the pros and cons of monogamy?
Just say what the situation is

cl61reb · 25/10/2018 18:26

You're going to have give us the actual example!!

But I would expect the head to speak to you direct rather than a 7yo give u were the person who raised the concern!!

crunchtime · 25/10/2018 18:26

I work in a faith school. Some parents stopped their kids going on a trip to a mosque.
We all thought they were bigots tbh.

Missingstreetlife · 25/10/2018 18:26

No one is pro abortion, pro choice is the correct term.
It doesn't matter what the activity or faith is. If you said your child couldn't do it, they should explain to you why it is compulsory, not confuse your child.

donquixotedelamancha · 25/10/2018 18:27

YABU- Just let him go up and get a blessing, he doesn't need to eat the bread.

crunchtime · 25/10/2018 18:27

Donquixote. ...are you posting on the wrong thread or purposely posting random shit?

Theimpossiblegirl · 25/10/2018 18:27

I work at a church school, we don't do Halloween activities.
We do learn about other religions in RE though, it's very important.

Reteacher101 · 25/10/2018 18:27

Keep posting examples, we'll eventually work out what it is by what it isn't Grin

kenandbarbie · 25/10/2018 18:28

It's hard to express an opinion without knowing what the activity was!

twofingerstoEverything · 25/10/2018 18:28

example would be giving a pro abortion class
OP - What on earth do you mean by 'pro abortion'? Do you mean 'pro-choice'? YABU using the phrase 'pro-abortion'.

Is the thing you don't want your kid to do Harry Potter or Halloween-related? I had a very religious friend who refused to let her children watch HP films etc. She ended up home educating because there wasn't a single school that was religious enough for her kids. Maybe you need to home educate?

PawneeParksDept · 25/10/2018 18:28

Then really as this is an issue for you I'd suggest you need to follow this up with the Head, and explain your feelings and reasoning as she will at least know what your referring to and we don't.

Thisreallyisafarce · 25/10/2018 18:29

As I keep saying though, my issue is less with this and more about not understanding why the head couldn't have just asked me directly. If he'd have said, sorry its compulsory then I could've chatted to my son about it myself.

The Head isn't obligated to run everything by you. Your child is under their charge.

donquixotedelamancha · 25/10/2018 18:29

Is it a Mormon school discussing the pros and cons of monogamy?

Oooh, I haven't covered that yet.

YANBU. He's too young for another wife.

Topseyt · 25/10/2018 18:30

Say what happened and stop being cryptic about it.

If it is Halloween based stuff then how will that out you
. It will only narrow it down to about most of the primary schools in the country, especially when those in England go back next week after half term.

MeanQueenHalloween · 25/10/2018 18:30

Can you tell him there are different sorts of Christians, your sort believe x, other sorts believe y.

It's really difficult to give an opinion with the limited information given.

Reteacher101 · 25/10/2018 18:30

It's actually very important that your child learns that not all Christians think/belief/act the same, or he will be more confused later.
Are they baking a cake in support of gay marriage?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/10/2018 18:30

It’s probably a bit early for nativity based woes isn’t it?

Topseyt · 25/10/2018 18:30

Stupid paragraph division in there, sorry.

Nottheduchessoftransiyvaniaaaa · 25/10/2018 18:31

Haha donquixote you are going to get it right at some point!

combatbarbie · 25/10/2018 18:31

Is it to do with Halloween?

donquixotedelamancha · 25/10/2018 18:32

I'd suggest you need to follow this up with the Head

OP has already complained to the school about an unnamed member of staff for reasons she couldn't discuss. For some reason that didn't resolve the issue.

twofingerstoEverything · 25/10/2018 18:33

They haven't put up a Christmas tree - sorry, a holiday tree - in a non-Christian/other faith school, have they? Because it's a bit early for that.

MeanQueenHalloween · 25/10/2018 18:33

And if you think he's confused now, wait till he starts science lessons.

Autumndayswhenthegrassisjewel · 25/10/2018 18:33

For those banging on about the activity, you really are missing the point! My whole purpose for posting is I think the head should've emailed /rang etc and either said tough he's doing it and this is why or listened to my reasons for not taking part. Instead he completely ignored my request and not only ignored it but told my son I was essentially wrong in my opinion (which I may very well be but it's still my opinion and I have to make decisions that I feel best). It just doesn't build a sense of trust.
