Simon Mayo is leaving radio 2. AIBU to think he's been pushed out?
Many people protested against Jo Whiley joining the show but obviously the BBC don't care what we think 🤬

Try considering the facts that Simon Mayo himself has said. They are both leaving the show, she’s moving to 7pm and somebody different is going to do 5pm. He’s said himself it’s nothing to do with her. But don’t let the facts get in the way of a good bandwagon-jumping moan, eh?

I don’t understand how Jo Whiley is still on the air. I know no one who likes her. I can only think she is good friends with the people who matter, or has something on them!! She is so smug and self satisfied!

Mayo has said on Twitter that his writing- and the making of two of his books into films-will take up more time than he has if he sticks to doing Drive every day.

Leave Jo alone. The new show wasn’t a patch in the old one with Matt et al. But she doesn’t deserve such abuse.

Maybe not, but I'm more annoyed at the BBC. They didn't listen when the listeners said they didn't like the new show and now they've scrapped the whole thing!

Please leave her alone. He was moved positions by the powers that be and had little to no say. It is no different to being moved departments in an office. She is a lovely person and just a mum going to works. Stop with the spiteful and bitchy comments.

It's the entertainment industry and the fans are everything. Plus, we pay for this.

Smokeypokey I love Liza Tarbuck, would happily listen every day if it was her. I don’t particularly mind Jo Whiley but the show wasn’t as good as it used to be. I think she’s much more suited to the shows that concentrate on music rather than all-round bantz. Yes I said bantz. Judge me

She might have gotten what she wanted yes. Which might have been to be moved back to a slot that suits her. It wasn’t her decision to be moved into the Drivetime slot. It was a decision made by management.
It is a shame Simon is going but his writing career has really taken off and he has a new book deal plus some of his books are being made into movies and he is involved.

Jo Wiley is a very knowledgeable music presenter - she is not a "personality" Dj. Drivetime needed personality...not a muso. It was a ridiculous appointment in the first place. Would love Liza Tarbuck to take over.

I like Jo Whiley and always enjoyed her evening show. Don’t normally get to listen to drive time but when I have, I haven’t found it too bad.
Saying Jo got ‘what she wanted’ is in called for.

I liked listening to Jo in the evenings, when out in the car. Never heard the new show as Simon irritates me with his smarminess. Not sure why. He just seems up himself. Soz Simon.

I am sad he won't be on any more (the film show with mark kermode is a very different kettle of fish) but I'm not surprised. This new show did not work at all, and I can't think who it was supposed to appeal to.
Jo Whiley is good at what she does, but casual banter and light entertainment is not it. So yes, she should go back to a later serious music slot.
If Liza Tarbuck or Sara Cox get the slot then that's me done with Radio 2. I've just heard that Zoe Ball is taking over from Chris Evans. Just whne you thought the morning show couldn't possibly get any more hyper (and I say that as a Chris Evans fan!) they do this. Jesus wept.

I liked Jo’s old show. I liked the thing where people waiting to pick their kids up. It’s producers that make the decision. To pretend it’s some sort of Machiavellian plot is ridiculous and a bit misogynistic.

This. Liza or Sara Cox. Whichever one of them doesn't get it can take over from the awful awful Steve Wright - or Craig Charles can do it (love him).
