AIBU?

So Jo Whiley has got what she wanted

Simon Mayo is leaving radio 2. AIBU to think he's been pushed out?

Many people protested against Jo Whiley joining the show but obviously the BBC don't care what we think 🤬

I don't think she's got what she wanted. It feels unfair that she's blames for the changes when it was the management that changed the format. At least we all know that @NotTheFordType is too cool for radio 2, it's important we know that.

Anyone who prefers Sara Cox needs their head testing...

I corrected myself with the title and I got my facts wrong.
But back when it was announced that she would be joining the show she was hated on mn. How times change.

Don't get the love for Lisa Tarbuck at all, she's terrible. Sad to see the final demise of drivetime.

Not a fan of either particularly and I didn’t like the new show, but I can’t for the life of me see how she’s “got what she wanted.” Lots of changes on Radio 1 and 2 right now. Don’t much rate Liza or Sara, but I very much like Zoe and Alice Levine.

I'm sorry to see Simon leave the show - have loved listening to the Confessions part especially. Although I didn't think the show worked with Jo, I don't think she deserves half of the crap she's had to hear being said about herself. I'm sure she knows that the drive time show just wasn't right for her.
I would love Sara Cox to get the drive time slot, I think she'd fit it perfectly. Although I enjoy Liza Tarbuck in small doses, I don't think she'd be right for that particular show. As entertaining as she is, she just wouldn't be the right fit, in my opinion.
I just wish the powers that be hadn't interfered with the drive time show in the first place, now we've lost Simon Mayo and that's their fault, not Jo's, not Simon's but the powers that be who run Radio 2.

Agreed. That was my whole point.

The BEST drive time presenter EVER was Johnnie Walker!! No one has ever bettered him! ♥

Cannot stand ‘kookie’ wannabe Jo ‘I’m here at Glastonbury with my best friends Coldplay and you’re not’ Whiley and will not listen to her.

However, it’s pretty unfair to say this is her fault, senior management decide who presents what.

That was a fairly bitchy op. And then to justify it saying ah but she used to be hated on here, like it was a bandwagon to be jumped on.

Fairly odd it has to be said.

Simon Mayo is a big boy. He can make his own career decisions and take full responsibility for them too. You know. Like a grown up.

Drivetime was a great show and they should have just left it alone. I couldn't listen to it with Jo Whiley, she is just too boring. It's sad that Simon won't be on the radio any more. I won't be listening to Jo W.

EEsh, cant believe people like Liza Tarbucks show, its absolute dirge. It seems to be on every time we sit down for tea on a saturday.

Honestly, her chat is absolutely rubbish! The music is ok though

Who the fuck listens to Radio 2?!

Just under 15 million listeners a week. So, you know, around one in four of the population.

HTH.

I like Jo Wiley too.

Ouch, this feels a bit mean spirited. And Mayo himself wanted her to join.

And I like Jo Whiley, though I liked her evening program much more; for me, something about her voice seems better suited to that time of day.

Radio like everything has to evolve,

Theres many programmes i used to listen too that no longer exist, simon used to present the afternoon show on five live, in fact it was simon i was listening to the day of 9/11 i also remember him presenting the breakfast show on radio 1. Management switched him and other presenters around. You listen to local radips it happrns actaully quite a lot.

I get bringing jo on to drive time changed the dynamic and it wasnt a popular choice either her or on other social outlets ive seen but it wasnt jo's choice.

And also just cos there was a thread where people didnt like her doent mean everyone did.

With simon and chris evans leaving times are a changing at radio 2, maybe it all seems like a msssive change all at once where as in the past old presenters have gone one af a time new ones and new shows have been introduced gradulely.

But to blame management decisions on one presenter, is unfair and a total non understanding of radio management

Leave Jo alone. The new show wasn’t a patch in the old one with Matt et al. But she doesn’t deserve such abuse

I agree. Nothing at all against Jo Whiley, it is the show that was wrong. it doesn't work in that time slot - the serious music stuff she brings tot he table, and the on air partnership just wasn't right. They may be great mates in real life, but the two presenting styles just don't complement each other.

Very sad indeed that Simon is going, and pleased that Jo Whiley is going back to a later evening show, of her own, which she suits much better.

Whoever they get in, please make it not someone shouty and gibbering 10 to the dozen like Evans and Zoe Ball. It needs someone laid back like Simon - nice easy listening with a bit of banter and some laughs - much like Simon's show was before they buggered it up.

I'm glad Jo is going back to a later slot, I miss her old show. I miss the old drivetime too, let's hope that the new one is good as Radio 2 seems to be struggling at the moment (apart from Saturday which is brilliant).

I would like to see Sara Cox get drivetime but suspect she will prefer to stick with her current timeslot due to family.

I think it might be time for Scott Mills to move to Radio 2!

But please please NOT Ferne Cotton!
