In spite of the best efforts of some on MN and various right-wing Christians.

AIBU?

I'd love a fresh thread on Oger. More opportunities for peaking Mumsnetters. Anyone know what he's been up to recently?

If it's my post, then I feel I should point out that there is a very clear trend in the OP's posts when it comes to characterisation of MN posters who have misgivings about the trans agenda, as well as their characterisation of people in British Columbia who have misgivings about the trans agenda.

It's really ironic that someone who asserts that identity is all that matters is trying to foist an identity other than their chosen one on people who do not share the trans view of how things should be

What about in the non public section of the site twitchy, the section where small select groups of radfems do their plotting?

Ahhhh - you mean the MN version you can only get to using the Tor browser.

I like 'twitchy' as nickname though!

Oh dear, sonyou want half the population to be shat at from a great height, and to have their voices drowned out. Nice!

Report
Aeroflotgirl · 23/10/2018 09:24

I think you are sounding very bigoted by failing to acknowledge or respect the concerns of half of the population, some of those concerns have come through in real life.

Black shutters thanks for that article.

It's pretty much what I'd picked up from a friend who is an anthropology prof at a US university - 2 spirit people tend to pop up in cultures with very rigid policing of gender roles, in the old social sciences meaning of gender roles (they seem to function almost as a safety valve). Though she did point out to me that it's not so much the rigidity of the roles that matter as the power imbalance that can go with them (a point the article alludes to). She used the Iroquois as an example too! Actually had fairly strongly demarcated "appropriate" activities for men and women, but crucially women wielded almost equal political power (they had right of veto over proposals to send war parties out, for example). And they had no third gender.

Yeah, Two Spirit sounds progressive until you know how it worked in practice. Women were never allowed to be Two Spirit. It wasn't the utopia the less informed seem to think it was. There's a Noble Savage element.

What is an Anti Trans Activist? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. Are they the men who murder and rape trans women?

Not read the whole thread, but I'm pleased. Bigots have no place guiding a school.

That’ll be why you’re so ignorant about the affects the TRAs have on women and children, then. That’s ok, you continue to be woke and the rest of us will continue to fight for the safety and dignity of women and children.

The fair Morgane is unlikely to be starting gloaty school board threads, what with coming 17th in the board vote for his district 😂

The power imbalance that goes with rigid gender roles is known as the patriarchy. Gender is a hierarchy that has oppressed women. Many of us had high hopes that the freedom to work, to graduate from university, to play sport at elite level and the expectation that men would share their burden of parenting and home maintenance - in other words, the end of the concept of gender roles - would lead to true equality.

Then along came transactivists to tell us that actually, gender is where it's at, and not only that but our lived experience of the power imbalance was not valid and something we had to shove under the carpet or risk being called bigots, and because there are some Christians and conservative Jews and others sticking up for women too, we get called fundamentalist reactionaries too.

Yes indeed, mathsanxiety, I absolutely agree.

(Though I'm on a campaign to replace words like "patriarchy" with phrases like "sexist society" and even "institutionally sexist society" because I don't want to fall foul of turning the discussion into an over-intellectualised one and turn people off. So I'm trying to replace words like "appropriation" with words like "stolen" and words like "gender" (old school social sciences meaning) with phrases like "the roles a sexist society tries to force us into because of our sex." I think this is an important debate that everyone should get a chance to follow, not one to be dressed up in the language of university lectures. Basically if you laugh at Pulp's "common people" you understand the concept of "appropriation" even if you've never come across the word before!)
