Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

Almost 20 years ago I wanted to play rugby.

The local club said “cool, you can use our facilities, go away and get enough players”. So we did, we fundraised did recruitment.

Why can’t transpeople do that?

Like fuck would I play against Hannah Mouncey and I would happily tell them that/

littlbrowndog · 15/10/2018 16:43

What’s with all the xx xy xy. And cooties
We are talking men and women
Boys and girls

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 16:43

Obsession isn't healthy and I wouldn't wish a pro sports career on my worst enemy.

Thats not an argument for allowing men to compete against women though is it?

M3lon It’s not just pro sports that are affected.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:44

elephant i'm not overly fussed. If we are having segregation it needs to be sex not gender. But I'm not overly sold on having a second tier of elite sport for people who aren't as good as the other people.

We don't have olympic medals for the over 35s. We don't have high jump for people under 5 ft 6.

You see all the derision around equal pay in tennis and I wonder if it actual does everyday women any good to have the physical differences in abilities between men and women broadcast so loudly.

FoldyRoll · 15/10/2018 16:45

Comments on Twitter are Angry. Everyone knows he's a bloke, but there are plenty of men guffing on about this being what feminists wanted, this is what equality looks like, why even have separate sports for men and women?
Women can't win no matter what we do.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:45

elephant no it isn;t an argument in favour of that. If you've been reading my posts this will not surprise you as I am not in fact in favour of that.

I just don't think its anything to get worked up about.

JacquesHammer · 15/10/2018 16:46

We don't have olympic medals for the over 35

You have senior/veteran categories in many sports

HumphreyCobblers · 15/10/2018 16:46

"It really really doesn't matter. Keep encouraging girls to do sport! The reasons for girls to do sport was never so they could win olympic gold. It was for their health and their enjoyment"

If this is true, why doesn't it apply to those cheating men? Or is is just male bodied people who are allowed to want to win?

OlennasWimple · 15/10/2018 16:47

It really really doesn't matter. Keep encouraging girls to do sport! The reasons for girls to do sport was never so they could win olympic gold. It was for their health and their enjoyment

Heaven forbid that women and girl play competitive sport to actually win. How very unladylike to want to come first.

Hmm
LenGoodmansPickledWalnuts · 15/10/2018 16:47

@longwayoff I agree that Fallon Fox is the most horrifying story around at the moment. Other sports, we might be offended that someone gets first as it clearly is unfair. But Fallon's opponent was so badly injured that it just beggars belief that anyone thinks that this is OK. Concussion, 7 staples to the head, orbital fracture. FFS.

OlennasWimple · 15/10/2018 16:48

x-post with Humphrey Smile

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 16:48

i'm not overly fussed.

Well that's nice for you.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:48

talkin happy to be wrong - but lots of people on here saying it wouldn't be safe to play mixed rugby...so it doesn't seem a stretch to say football wouldn't be great either?

I don't have an opinion either way. Couldn't give a shiny shit about football, but from very casual viewing it doesn't look like the women's game is anywhere near the standard of the men's. (which is unsurprising given the massive funding differential and the overwhelming sexism).

If your female player wanted in a men's team she should certainly go for it.

BertieDrapper · 15/10/2018 16:48

I've been along time lurker in these boards, but this is outrageous!
My DD is only a toddler but makes me worried for her future as a women if shit like this is allowed!!

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 15/10/2018 16:48

there are plenty of men guffing on about this being what feminists wanted, this is what equality looks like, why even have separate sports for men and women?

Exactly. Men guffawing. Men. It's ridiculous. As a woman (born a woman) who competed at Uni in several sports I'd have simply refused to race against men, regardless of how 'woke' the rest of the teams were. It's nonsense.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:50

jaques but not at the olympics or world championships as is relevant here.

Loopytiles · 15/10/2018 16:50

Unfair biological advantages. Bad decisions by the sport regulators.

Belindabauer · 15/10/2018 16:51

Of course he's a man.
When will this lunacy end.

Jeanclaudejackety · 15/10/2018 16:51

Even looks like a fella

Roystonv · 15/10/2018 16:52

All of you who don't think this is fair, who are angry, who are shocked, who are bewildered please please please complete the GRA consultation document before it is too late. It is so easy to do now so Google this subject and find out how to get your voice heard and how to make a difference. We are running out of time to make our feelings known. Women are now fighting for their future and those of their female children. Don't dismiss the Feminist chat on here - dip a toe into it - as they have been trying to draw people's attention to this potential nightmare for ages. Anyone can complete the consultation and share with as many people as you can.

Welshmaiden85 · 15/10/2018 16:52

I am not anti transwomen, but this is clearly very unfair... could they not win as a transwomen and then the best biological woman also get first place....or something?! Surely every sport will be won by transwomen and natal women won't have a chance? There must be a solution that's kind to this individual and also fair. I also (perhaps paranoid...perhaps not) worry that country like Russia could manipulate vulnerable gay boys to become trans when they are not transgender in order to win more sporting events.

JacquesHammer · 15/10/2018 16:52

but not at the olympics or world championships as is relevant here

If you think this is only pertaining to absolutely elite sport you’re very misguided.

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 16:52

So M3lon your whole argument is 'I don't care about winning so ensuring that sport is as fair as possible for women just isn't necessary.'

Right.
