That a male just won a women’s cycling World Championship?

Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

Crikey, it used to be that a Vicks inhaler could get you in trouble now it seems drug shenanigans are perfectly acceptable.
What’s the point of watching, if you know the winner in advance? Won’t the predictability be obvious at the bookies?
We can but hope that eventually some one will come up with the novel idea of having XX-only sports for XX women.

Bluntness100 · 16/10/2018 21:14

I think it's interesting that in my social circle this is rhe one thing that has United everyone, from people who fully support trans inclusion to those with lgbt kids and on the fence, this person competing in this race against biological women is the one thing that made every single one say " yeah, that's not right". And as an immediate reaction.

I actually think that Rachel has done the trans community a huge disservice here, because nearly everyone sees the issue with a person being born biologically Male competing against people born biologically female as very wrong.

Bonions · 16/10/2018 21:25

Ricky Gervais tweeted about this and one of the comments in response made me snort:

Transwinner. He thinks he’s a winner, but he’s not really.

OlennasWimple · 16/10/2018 21:36

MimiSam - that doesn't surprise me at all. And is part of the answer to Cleopatras question about why the experts and doctors involved have allowed this to happen... It's because organisations haven't been taking advice from neutral experts, they've been taking advice from people with at best a personal interest and often significant bias. For example, one of the experts who advised the IOC when they were drawing up the guidelines ahead of the Rio Olympics is a transwoman

theOtherPamAyres · 16/10/2018 21:56

The striking thing for me is that McKinnon can't see anything wrong. The narcissistic delusion is something to behold.

McKinnon mansplains some quack science to Twitter, proving that the transgender body is no different to a female one. To McKinnon, we're either thick or transphobic if we don't accept the batshittery, and he rages on a global stage.

GladAllOver · 16/10/2018 22:05

The problem so far has been that most people either haven't noticed what has been going on behind the scenes, or else have had natural sympathy for someone they perceived to be disadvantaged.
I believe this will change as it becomes more widely known what the real results of these unrealistic allowances are.
It's the duty of all of us to make the truth known in whatever way we can.

Disgustingwoman · 16/10/2018 22:09

Just a thought: how will the bookies deal with this?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/10/2018 22:58

That is a very good point disgusting

I reckon i may make some money out if this

Me and eleventy million others

BigotedWoman · 16/10/2018 23:00

It's late and I'm thick, can you explain the bookies angle to me please?

OvaHere · 16/10/2018 23:04

The striking thing for me is that McKinnon can't see anything wrong. The narcissistic delusion is something to behold.

It's entirely possible McKinnon knows exactly how wrong it is. That's just part of the kick.

FermatsTheorem · 16/10/2018 23:08

Bigoted - I think the comment's meant quite literally. Bookies make money out of people betting on sporting contests which are not fixed (hence match-fixing or throwing races is not merely bad sportsmanship, but an actual criminal offence!)

And what is this if not legalised, sporting-body officially sanctioned match fixing?

Actually, given our conversations about "follow the money", this is a very interesting angle to pursue. Because what often turns this batshittery round is competing financial interests (for instance, with industrial-scale climate change denial, one of the things that turned it round was the fact that other major financial players - particularly the insurance and even more so the reinsurance industry - had huge financial stakes in taking climate science seriously).

Onecutefox · 16/10/2018 23:09

So women have to fight for even more rights today? Being so undervalued is so insulting. It's like they're taking a piss at us, seriously because they do.

Onecutefox · 16/10/2018 23:12

Why can't we have sports for transgender as well?

BigotedWoman · 16/10/2018 23:15

Thanks Fermats Blush

Onecutefox · 16/10/2018 23:20

Very interesting about bookies. Didn't think of it but now it looks so obvious.

Lazypoolday · 17/10/2018 00:07

I don't know what bookies have to do with anything. They will set the odds accordingly, taking into account that this person is a male competing against females. What am I missing?

AvoidingDM · 17/10/2018 00:19

Bookies are all about chance, they need fair competition for people to bet.
For them to make money they need people to bet on the losers. Regardless of the odds offered few people will bet on a bio woman winning against a bio man.

Even if they make the man favourite to win and crazy odds, put £2 on to win £1, if he wins they are still.handing out more money.

Italiangreyhound · 17/10/2018 00:29

Totally wrong, no way should biological males be competing against biological females in sports. It's unfair.

araiwa · 17/10/2018 03:08

The podium picture is actually hilarious

I mean...jeezy creezy

lovac · 17/10/2018 03:28

Utterly ridiculous. YANBU.

Disgustingwoman · 17/10/2018 07:14

Thank you! You have confirmed my suspicions, bookies need losers to make money - a dead cert is harmful to them. We may have found an ally and I may just be related to someone who is in the bookie business (one of the big ones)...that's my task for today!

Biology has moved on

No it hasn’t. People with penises are male

AlmaGeddon · 17/10/2018 07:23

From the money angle in the long term , if women aren't winning , due to Tws winning, the female role models will disappear so less sales advertising for Nike etc, in fact would a Tw in Nike Lycra put men and women off buying it , the Tw buying power must be minimal. Just a thought.
