To not give a shit about the Eugenie wedding?

Does anyone really care about this? I know tabloids are trying to push this as fascinating and brilliant news (probably at request of her dad) but who cares if a random upper class women gets married? Why is it on tv? Why would anyone be mad enough to go on watch a carriage possession in Windsor and more importantly why does the tax payer have to pick up the bill for security etc?

Completely agree OP

A very privileged life for a very NOT so few.
Their only justification for their privileged life is because the Queens ancestors were better at killing, maiming, torturing and raping others in the past.....and still they reap the rewards
I suppose you could draw a parallel with Royalty, Mafia and Drug Cartels in that they have all become obscenely rich from pain and suffering they cause to others.

Life isn't perfect, no. But it would be a damn sight more palatable if these families didn't exist.

Lynne1Cat · 13/10/2018 08:31

I couldn't give a flying fuck about her wedding. I haven't bought a newspaper for a few days because I suppose all that crap will take up half of the paper

thisneverendingsummer · 13/10/2018 09:03

I am always amazed at how people supposedly don't give a shit about something, but then feel the need to post a thread about it online.

I don't like golf or cricket, and think they are boring. Do I go online when it's on tv and moan about it? Do I start a thread about it on mumsnet or post tweets saying how shit it is, and how much I hate it, and how much it bores me???

NO. Because I don't care about it, and I am not sad enough, and pathetic enough to post a thread about something I don't like (and have no interest in,) proclaiming how much I dislike it, and how uninterested I am in it. It's utterly pathetic.

Another thing that I find pathetic - AND laughable, is how people moan about how it costs the taxpayer money. In my experience, the ones who crow the loudest about this, pay the least tax. Some pay none at all. Must be so hard to be so bitter and angry about people who do you no harm, and are just living the lives chosen for them. Also must be hard to accept the fact that the Royals bring in WAAAAAAY more income they they cost.

Now suck on that haters! Grin

Vivaldi1678 · 13/10/2018 09:26

@thisneverending summer - I totally agree with you. There are some envious, bitter, spiteful posters on this thread, and I get the impressions that the ones making the most venomous noise are probably the ones who contribute the least to the economy.

Polarbearflavour · 13/10/2018 09:43

Isn’t it pathetic that you moan about them being pathetic?

It’s a little presumptuous to presume that people who dislike the royal families are poor and jealous.

For the record, I think Eugenie looked nice and she’s obviously happy with her new husband. I’m still a republican though but I’m not bitter, poor or jealous. Have quite a nice life and currently eating fresh pain au chocolat in bed. Hope Eugenie is also having a tasty morning after breakfast in bed Smile

I hate to burst your bubble, but both myself and my husband earn 6 figure salaries, so pay tonnes of tax.

Also must be hard to accept the fact that the Royals bring in WAAAAAAY more income they they cost.

No they don't.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 13/10/2018 10:34

I disagree that the Royals are all workshy.

30 years ago when my mother was Mayor of a Council, she was involved in inviting the Queen to a Borough event. The secretary responded that the Queen had over 500 scheduled appointments that year.

In 2015, the Queen, at the age of 90, still had 306 public appointments in the UK and 35 overseas. That's hardly workshy.

The other major Royals also have heavy appointment loads - although Prince William has fewer because of his role in the Air Rescue service, and Prince Harry used to have fewer because he also had a job.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/queen-elizabeth-II/12077343/Queen-carries-out-more-engagements-than-William-Kate-and-Harry-combined.html

They hardly sit around doing fuck all and just pulling money out of the Treasury.

I liked Princess Eugenie's dress, and the relative simplicity of the chapel decoration. But I didn't sit down and watch the event, just caught the highlights and Andrea Bocelli's singing.

CherryBlossomPink · 13/10/2018 11:04

I can’t get worked up about paying for security from the public purse - we fund security at any event where the police are required, including demonstrations, marches etc. which may not be in favour of things I believe in - that’s the nature of democracy.
It was the wedding of a young woman who looked so happy to be marrying the man she loved - I had dreamed of having a horse and carriage for my wedding since being a little girl, the difference is that I’m not related to royalty so didn’t have the fuss that she has had to deal with.
She seems a kind person who has quietly gone about her life, dealing with very unpleasant press who have issues with her parents - I thought she conducted herself with a lot of dignity and I’ll be honest she went up in my estimation yesterday.
I’m ambivalent about royals in general, but I wish her well and hope she has a long and happy marriage.

TomHardysNextWife · 13/10/2018 11:12

I think the wedding felt like a family wedding, tbh, and the only thing I really didn't like about it was the carriage ride and security that entailed because of it. That felt very frivolous of Prince Andrew to insist upon. But wherever they married, there would have to be security because she's a part of the Royal Family.

Her dress was stunning - better than Kate and Meghan's by far, but then she's a "real" Princess and not marrying into the family. The tiara was very medieval and really finished the dress off. And it felt a very genuine marriage.

LaurieMarlow · 13/10/2018 11:14

I'm failing to follow the logic here. How do these two statements relate to each other?

karmap · 13/10/2018 11:19

The royal family are weird. When the couple were exchanging their vows almost every single one of them had their heads down/looking elsewhere- just like at Harry's. What is that about?

LaurieMarlow · 13/10/2018 11:55

I've no idea why they do it, but when it happened at Harry's the Meghan hating Mafia on here took it as evidence that the royal family despised her and thought the marriage a huge mistake.

So glad to see them all proved wrong at least.

LillianGish · 13/10/2018 13:43

When the couple were exchanging their vows almost every single one of them had their heads down/looking elsewhere- just like at Harry's It’s because there have been a lot of divorces - Charles, Anne and Andrew and before them the Queen’s sister Margaret. I think it is an uncomfortable moment, listening to the Dean talking about making vows for life knowing that that has been pretty meaningless for most of them.

LillianGish · 13/10/2018 13:46

probably even more so at Harry and Meghan’s wedding because she herself is a divorcee (remember Charles and Camilla weren’t actually allowed to marry in the chapel because they were divorced and had to decamp to the Guidhall).

BrightonGallery7 · 13/10/2018 14:10

The looking down thing is due to sheer awkwardness due to the Royal Family’s rather poor track record when it comes to marriage and divorce.

BrightonGallery7 · 13/10/2018 14:11

One due too many!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/10/2018 15:53

Here's an odd thing - the net's plastered with photos from the reception, some even inside Windsor Castle

I thought phones, etc, were supposed to be banned? (Though of course it's one thing banning them and another altogether to keep them out)

SymphonyofShadows · 13/10/2018 17:01

Prince William left the air ambulance service in 2017.

Rudgie47 · 13/10/2018 17:08

It was widely reported that even when William was working for the Air Ambulance, he hardly ever turned up. People who worked with him were fed up with him being lazy.
Since then hes done sweet FA.
Hes no different to someone on the dole really. What I thought was really bad was when he walked away from the survivors of Grenfell Tower when they wanted to talk to him. What could be more important than spending a few minutes listening to them?.
The guys an A1 twat.

BrightonGallery7 · 13/10/2018 17:36

Blimey do you have insider info?

SymphonyofShadows · 13/10/2018 18:01

I think it's blatantly obvious surely? Their public engagements are available for all to see. Both W&K seem so dull and arrogant.

BrightonGallery7 · 13/10/2018 18:07

Okaaaay

totally agree with this poster - we both earned six figures sums, kids are dutifully employed and paying tax and we do lots of voluntary work ( unpaid public service), but don't get free housing, free transport, security following while we fall out of nightclubs, and anybody paying for our family weddings

From what I understand from this they put money into the treasury from investments and revenue etc then they draw a smaller amount out to cover their costs

FruitofAutumn · 13/10/2018 22:52

Apart from crown assets , the queen has enormous personal wealth and prince Philip too, being descended from Greek and Danish royalty.
