JAPAB upthread was drawing the usual false equivalence between gay rights and rights for male people who identify as trans.
The power balance between gay people and straight people was/is not equivalent to the power balance between male people who identify as trans and female people.
Gay people have historically been discriminated against by straight people; straight people have had more power in society.
Males who identify as trans have not been historically discriminated against by female people, who have never had and still do not have more power in society, not even anywhere near an equal amount.
On the contrary, male people - however they identify - have discriminated against female people for most of recorded history, and have had (still have) a disproportionately huge amount of power relative to female people.
Just look at the runaway success of the male-dominated and -led transactivist “civil rights” movement - male people excercising power and control over female people. Again.
Transactivists and their allies are notable for coming out with these false equivalences - another popular and deeply racist one is “if male people who identify as trans can’t be called women, then neither can black women” - as if the word “woman” only means white woman.
Or the other trope about excluding males from women’s facilities being like excluding black people from white facilities under Apartheid or segregation. Um, nope. Again, power dynamic. Doesn’t work. Use your noggin.
Women have never excluded males from our spaces on account of us being the privileged class deliberately discriminating against them and forcing them to use inferior facilities. Women don’t exclude males to demonstrate our supposed superiority. Quite the contrary.
We exclude males because as the oppressed sex class we need and are entitled to spaces free from our oppressors. And for protection against the violence and sexual violence that is meted out overwhelmingly by male people (however they identify) against female people.
Anyone who tries to find a parallel with racism there is deeply dishonest as well as seemingly incapable of rational thought.
But then, deep dishonesty, an incapacity for rational and critical thinking, and the complete denial of material reality are the trademarks of the transactivist movement, really. Along with deep misogyny and vast swathes of male privilege.
JAPAB encompasses all those attritibutes beautifully, fine ally that he is.
