So - any recommendations for running instamums anyone? Someone to inspire me to mix up being a glorified slave to my small children and run at the same time! Bit off track but why not...

(Also intrigued what happened with the last one - did it go south?)

MrBull · 28/09/2018 18:56

The first rule of an instamums thread is don't talk about instamums!

OP posts:
MrBull · 28/09/2018 18:58

The last one got deleted because the one that was deleted before that was mentioned. Bloody ridiculous. We've been told that this one will stay as long as there is no reference to the deleted thread Hmm and there are no personal attacks.

OP posts:
Crackedvase · 28/09/2018 18:59

I was going to post on the original thread but it's gone I see!
I do follow some accounts 'influencers' etc and I'll admit, think the ads are a bit shite. I DO feel uneasy with kids used in advertising ( MP is highlighting child safety etc, it's given me pause for throught).
I don't post pics of my older children, unless I ask them. I will be refraining from posting pics of my little one from now on too. Am I influenced? On this topic, very much so.
Selling dairy lea and Johnsons baby stuff? Not at all. I tend to just go past those ones tbh.
I'm ok with people making a quid through ad posts. I like the transparency to be there.
I really enjoy ' this girl is enough'

ShirleyPhallus · 28/09/2018 19:00

What are we actually discussing here sorry?

MrBull · 28/09/2018 19:03

You do really need to have read the previous threads to get the gist shirley, but we can't refer to them directly.

I know.

OP posts:
PortiaCastis · 28/09/2018 19:03

No idea Shirley what's all the fuss about

ShirleyPhallus · 28/09/2018 19:04

I’ve read them but not sure what you want to discuss.

The ethics of it all? How to become one?

Or just here for a gossip? Cos this thread won’t last long at all if it’s that

MrBull · 28/09/2018 19:09

I don't think many of us were here 'just for a gossip'. They've always tried to centre on ethics. It's a general thread continuing that same theme. Maybe I should have given more detail in the title but these threads have been running a while so most people know the score. And most people do refrain from the personal attacks that give the threads a bad name.

LilyMumsnet · 28/09/2018 19:14

Hi all,

Just popping on here to say that whilst everyone is free to voice their opinion, it is important to remain civil and polite - posts that are not in the spirit will be deleted.

EvePolastri · 28/09/2018 19:22

scientistic look up the runmummyrun hashtag..... loads of accounts there

Leanne rmr is a good start

oldgimmer78 · 28/09/2018 20:01

What exactly is 'not in the spirit' though? Why is it only mum's from Insta who deserve polite and civil conversation? Genuine question btw. There are 2 threads about celebs that I've read today that probably contravene the polite and civil rule but they are still going strong.

oldgimmer78 · 28/09/2018 20:03

I 'm personally glad of this place where ethics of many issues can be discussed. I certainly had my eyes opened today and I'm still gutted.

EvePolastri · 28/09/2018 20:18

hmmm interesting point....civil and polite

lets get that on all the threads then shall we MNHQ?? you'll be constantly deleting...

glagdy · 28/09/2018 20:25

I received a long email from Mumsnet saying I would would be suspended if I made any similar posts to one that was deleted again.

I was careful not to make any personal attacks, it didn't merit being deleted let alone the email response.

So I'll refrain from commenting as clearly Mumsnet will be silencing people whether they deserve it or not. Sad

MrBull · 28/09/2018 20:26

The whole of AIBU with a civil and polite rule.
Imagine... 😆

SpiritLeveller · 28/09/2018 20:27

It was a shame that a lot of good things were deleted on the previous Thread That May Not Be Mentioned, as the topics covered were actually fairly wide ranging in scope.

Gemma Hockett is a good running account, by the way.

Cobrider · 28/09/2018 20:30

I really want to discuss this but feeling quite restricted in what I can say. It’s an overt level of censorship I guess and probably as a result of threatening lawyers.

VenelopeVonSweetz · 28/09/2018 20:31

Think it’s time I bowed out of MN. The Thread That’s Shall Not Be Named contained some important and interesting discussions.

MN is a free for all when it comes to discussing issues and people of influencers, especially AIBU. Why are instamums imune from this?

It’s a joke.

SpiritLeveller · 28/09/2018 20:36

I'm starting to feel like the non existent WhatsApp group sounds like a good idea after all Grin

glagdy · 28/09/2018 20:37

I'm presuming others got the email too then. Sad

MaisyPops · 28/09/2018 20:37

I didn't see the original thread but it seems there's a growing list of topics/themes/people that seem to be beyond discussion of late.

SpiritLeveller · 28/09/2018 20:38

On another topic, interesting/scary news that FB has had 90 million accounts compromised and has taken 4 days to tell anyone. I keep getting reset emails on my Insta like someone has been trying to hack into it (although it could have been me, lol). I don't trust FB/Insta as far as I could throw them.

I think the official line is that because InstaLife is an 'emerging medium' the people being discussed are still finding their way rather than proper slebs who know what they are getting into and so are fine to be slagged off.
