To think a second Brexit referendum will not happen

I am a remainer, but people campaigning for a second Referendum are wasting their time. It is not going to happen.

OP posts:

Thick, stupid, ignorant, small minded, predudiced, thick, stupid and fucking stupid.
Oh......and stupid

5Yearplan4000 · 24/09/2018 02:55

A second referendum would be even more divisive than the first. I could foresee possible riots in the streets

5Yearplan4000 · 24/09/2018 03:04

If you think you’re children’s futures have been ruined by brexit you can’t have much faith in your children. They’ll find a way to thrive whether we are in the Eu or not.

I’m amazed at all this frothing over Brexit. Most people didn’t care that much about the Eu to the point turnout in EU elections was usually less than 30% - most people were ambivalent at best and certainly not invested in caring how it’s run. Most people here I bet couldn’t even name their MEP acting for them in their cherished, wonderful EU. People need to get a grip. We are leaving and good riddance. Remainers should get on board with it instead of doing the country down and screaming obscenities at everyone else.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 24/09/2018 03:09

@5Yearplan4000 it's not as simple as just getting on with it. I know people who have lost/will probably lose their jobs because they'll be losing the funding that comes for the UK.

You've only got to see what it's going to do to the science industry let alone others to realise how bad it's going to be. Where is all this money going to come from to replace what we'll be losing?

RedneckStumpy · 24/09/2018 03:21

The first vote set the country on a suicide path. A second referendum won’t help, the course cannot be changed.

5Yearplan4000 · 24/09/2018 03:50

Why should we rely on “Europe” for “funding” we put in more than we ever get back anyway. The UK govt can simply dye in to plug any gaps.

5Yearplan4000 · 24/09/2018 03:50

Step in

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/09/2018 04:28

It's not 'funding' 5year. It's trade, freedom to work and live in Europe, it's being a financial centre, it's being able to draw on expertise and workers from all over Europe and for them to do the same, it's peace FFS. It's a whole load of stuff that is worth vastly more money than the money we put in.

5Yearplan4000 · 24/09/2018 05:15

The UK not being in the EU has nothing to do with peace. We are hardly going to war with an Eu country and the Irish border issue will be resolved. Again, huge hysterics from remain supporters.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/09/2018 05:24

How exactly will NI be sorted out without bloodshed?

ShackUp · 24/09/2018 05:35

'I am a remainer'.

NO YOU ARE NOT.

Can people stop responding to these Russian shills, please? Second thread in two days!

StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2018 06:03

"puzzledlady

confused no one knows how it’ll turn out - why not give it a chance? It’s been voted in already."
We know it's going to be a disaster. The writing is on the wall.

P3onyPenny · 24/09/2018 06:38

But you still can't say 5 what you think you stand to gain from Brexit or what the best deal would be. You were asked repeatedly on the other thread and couldn't answer. If you can't identify what you'd gain or what the best deal for the country would be how can you expect others who are firmly against the shit show to get behind it? The niavity on these threads is both breathtaking and frankly scary.

scaryteacher · 24/09/2018 06:40

@SwedishEdith Look at the Five Presidents report and where this is all going...The plan is for every member state to adopt the Euro, whether they want to do so or not. Whilst Tusk et al want our dosh, and thus for us to stay, there will be a price exacted for having dared to vote to Leave, which will be Schengen, the Euro, no opt outs, no rebate, and increased contributions. The Commission will want it's pound (or half a kg) of flesh. The Commission is not a fluffy, friendly organisation full of sparkly unicorn dust. It is stuffed full of people for whom further EU integration is their religion. That is why the negotiations are hard. The Government is trying to be pragmatic, the EU side is being theological or doctrinaire if you prefer. Those who voted Leave are like heretics were to the RC church.

I think that the whole point if the 'negotiations' for the EU side has been to ensure no deal or total capitulation. I prefer the former if total capitulation is the alternative.

TheMonkeyMummy · 24/09/2018 06:41

@5Yearplan4000 'huge hysteria from remainders'.

Really? Even if you don't share them, people's concerns are viable. Perhaps it would all go a lot smoother if people felt able to discuss without it all descending into dismissive name calling and concerns are acknowledged.

I don't know anyone in RL, on either side, who are happy with the way things are going. This is why I am supporting a People's vote. The first one isn't a carte blanche for TM to forge ahead, and do what she wants when hardly anyone, across ALL levels, supports it! That is not democratic.

P3onyPenny · 24/09/2018 06:44

3 generations in our family are going on the people's march. That is democracy.

TheMonkeyMummy · 24/09/2018 06:47

@P3onyPenny BRILLIANT!

generalexpert · 24/09/2018 06:59

Well let's hope there isn't a second vote. We've had one already, which was based on a simple majority as all other referenda that went before.

I voted to remain, but value democracy far above any single issue even if so big as the EU.

Leaving the EU could be the best thing we ever did. Look how the EU are treating us as we try to leave - it won't get any better if we stay.

The PR is only about the downside and uncertainty. The uncertainty was really why I voted to remain. There will be upsides.

We should stop wringing our hands and get on with it. The initial agreement need not be the final agreement, this can be continually renegotiated.

P3onyPenny · 24/09/2018 07:04

You didn't vote remain. If you had you'd have been well aware that the fairytale of it being easy to leave was a pack of lies. You'd also be aware that the EU are only doing what they were always going to do and we simply can't have our cake and eat it.

P3onyPenny · 24/09/2018 07:07

It is only going to get a lot worse so buckle up. We don't hold any of the cards, they do. Uk arrogance won't change that in the slightest.

TittyGolightly · 24/09/2018 07:08

Nobody voted to join the EU. There was a democratic vote to remain or leave. The majority voted to leave. What's your point?

Oh dear. Nobody voted. It was an opinion poll. Less legally binding than ringing in to the X Factor.

UnnecessaryFennel · 24/09/2018 07:15

The UK govt can simply step in to plug any gaps

Oh god.

I can't believe that Leavers actually keep coming out with this. Where is your evidence that the UK govt is the slightest bit interested in 'plugging the gaps'? Are you aware of this little thing called 'austerity'? Of the state of the NHS? Of social care? Police? Schools? Housing? Manufacturing? Railways? And yet you think that a UK govt will miraculously start shelling out when we leave?

We keep being told that people voted leave because they were being 'left behind' and ignored. And yet Leavers have this blissful idiotic confidence that the govt will just step in and make everything peachy away from the big bad EU.

The opposite is true. Disaster capitalism is a thing. There will be no 'plugging the gaps', not for ordinary people like us. It's a fantasy.

Leavers have screwed this country and I will never ever forgive them.

generalexpert · 24/09/2018 07:16

It would appear that only the Liberal Elite knew what they were voting for and everybody else was dumb and didn't understand! How convenient.

So what would the question be on this second referendum?

ShackUp · 24/09/2018 07:20

Wake up, people.

How many 'I'm a Remainer, but...' threads have we had recently??

Please spot them and report them, instead of weighing in.

Putin is getting nervous and he's sent his hackers in.

Poloshot · 24/09/2018 07:21

Of course it won't
