Why the language change? I know it's all about being trans-inclusive. But is it really trans-exclusive if Lunette had said menstruating woman or girl?

Is there an average menstruating woman .

But woman, yes.

I'd probably rewrite that sentence as "Averaged out, women who use disposable feminine hygiene products when menstruating produce 300 pounds of rubbish from these products per year".

walkingtheplank · 18/09/2018 10:34

Thanks for the heads-up. Another brand not to use.

UnderHerEye · 18/09/2018 10:35

Btw, yes we WILL have this every single day, until the woke stop shitting all over women and our rights and opinions

^^This

Also, genuine question, for those that don’t mind the word women being erased in the name of ‘inclusion’ then why do the feelings of transpeople in relation to language matter but the feelings of women in relation to language dont matter ?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 18/09/2018 10:36

Only women menstruate. To use the expression "menstruating people" is a step up from "menstruators", but it's still offensive. Failing to recognize our sex is dehumanising. We are women and menstruation is part of that. It goes along with lots of other functions of our reproductive role, like pregnancy (breeders). If you're so delusional that you think you can menstruate and not be a woman that's very sad but it shouldn't be encouraged.

PositivelyPERF · 18/09/2018 10:37

I'm sorry if I've misworded above as I was only trying to say that surely anyone menstruating must be a woman. You’d think that would be obvious, wouldn’t you, but unfortunately the powerful minority is getting to tell women when they can call themselves women and that we should just accept it. Don’t worry, you haven’t offended.

GC men are always welcome. It’s the mansplaining fuckers that tell us to accept our fate (because it doesn’t negatively affect them) that can piss off.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/09/2018 10:38

"I'd probably rewrite that sentence as "Averaged out, women who use disposable feminine hygiene products when menstruating produce 300 pounds of rubbish from these products per year"

In fact, you could delete 'when menstruating' and the second 'products'.

Umpteenthingsclean welcome to Mumsnet! Good to have you here.

Sad to say, but we need more men speaking up on this because.

  1. There aren't enough of you!
  2. The depressing truth is that, still, men are listened to more than women. The word TERF is a slur aimed at women who disagree with the trans bullshit. There is no male equivalent.

Here's an excellent thread to get you up to speed on trans issues: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3145470-Break-it-down-for-me

Yippee, another trans-bashing thread! God knows the first 3,854,270 weren't enough.

They don't think women's feelings matter because most of the woke are very young and privileged. They think all women are put on the earth to mother and indulge them. If we don't adopt that role and agree with their nonsense they become enraged and call us names.

The ability to leave a website is a very useful function on a mobile device, so I’m told.

WheelyCote · 18/09/2018 10:50

The word menstruating or menstruation is orrible. The heart is being taken out of our language.

Soon we won't beable to say 'make love' it'll just be sexual relations or sexual intercourse.

What I dislike more......are the people who tell me I can identify as whatever i want to be.....as long as it's not 'woman'.

Rant over.

@NotaCleverName it's not trans bashing though is it. It's women actual biological women objecting to the fact that their sex and any words associated to it, are being eradicated. I think anyone would object to the eradication of their identity!

You could say let's stop calling Welsh people Welsh, they are the "people born to the of West of England" or the Scottish are no longer Scottish just "northern Celtic people of the British Isles" no they are Scottish that's what they are.

Women are women, born biologically female. People need to stop stripping us of our identity.

How is asking to be acknowledged as women (not people) when referring to a sex-specific biological function 'transbashing'? This is particularly the case since women have, throughout time and across cultures even today, been oppressed because of our bleeding bodies? It is not men who are considered unclean in some faith contexts because they bleed. It is women. It is not men who cannot attend school because they have no way (money to buy) menstrual products. It is women. We need to name this. Only women bleed.

Juells · 18/09/2018 10:55

"The average woman of child-bearing age..." How difficult is that?

5Yearplan4000 · 18/09/2018 10:55

At least it doesn't say "mentstruating non-men"

Twotailed · 18/09/2018 11:00

It’s to be inclusive of trans men who may menstruate but don’t identify as women.

YANBU, I don't want to be referred to by my bodily functions. I am a masticator, a defecator, a breeder (according to INCELS). I don't know how menstruator is seen as acceptable, especially when women are being asked to keep quiet about their biology. Just another example of misogeny

The post says menstuating person, not menstuator.

And this post is doing exactly what you want - refusing to identify people by their bodily functions. No person should be reduced to their biology alone. Not all women menstruate. Some men do. It’s right to use language which is inclusive of that reality.

Lunette are trying to do something really good here. Plastic is killing the planet and affecting our health. Waste is out of control. Is that not a bit more important than your criticisms of inclusive language?

PinkyU · 18/09/2018 11:01

If asked to describe myself I’d say “I’m a person with xyz feature” before I’d describe myself as a woman with xyz feature.

Since when did it become offensive to be referred to as a person or group of people?

Juells · 18/09/2018 11:02

Some men do.

No they don't. Some transmen do.

RangeRider · 18/09/2018 11:04

Having periods = bleeding = woman. End of.
No bleeding = no period.

Juells · 18/09/2018 11:05

PinkyU
If asked to describe myself I’d say “I’m a person with xyz feature” before I’d describe myself as a woman with xyz feature.

So you'd describe yourself as 'an English person' rather than 'an Englishwoman'? Or Welshwoman? Would a man describe himself as an English person, or as an Englishman.

"An English person, an Irish person and a Scots person walked into a pub..." has a real authentic ring to it. 🙄

RangeRider · 18/09/2018 11:07

Since when did it become offensive to be referred to as a person or group of people?
It's not offensive, it's just ridiculous because only women can have periods. It's fine saying 'people with autism' because it applies to both sexes. But trying to be inclusive about something that another group can't experience makes a mockery of it. And adds to the anti-trans sentiment.

Helmetbymidnight · 18/09/2018 11:08

So because a tiny minority of women would rather be called 'menstruating persons' then all women must be referred to as menstruating persons?

Is that the logic here?

Aeroflotgirl · 18/09/2018 11:09

Only women Menstruate. Or Females, if you identify as whatever, if you Menstruate you are biologically Female. Factually there are two sexes, Male and Female.

Shampooeeee · 18/09/2018 11:09

YANBU. I wouldn’t trust a company that doesn’t even know which sex menstruates to design something to stick up my vagina.
