YANBU.
I've loved them since 1992, I was 14. I became utterly obsessed with their music and I have Manics to thank for my music tastes today (Rock, Metal and Punk) as James' guitar riffs hypnotised me.
As a teen (pre-internet) I had Manics pen pals dotted around the country. We used to stay at each others houses during tours so we could see 3 or 4 dates on each tour.
I first met James and Richey at a local gig and almost passed out, I was totally in lust with James and Richey was just pure beauty up close.
Years later, aged 19, after Richey went missing
I had moved to London and I co-wrote a music magazine with friends, it was professionally laid out and printed and sold via subscription and in independent record shops, we became friends with Gruff from Super Furries through the magazine and met Manics a couple more times through him. The highlight was after SFA's Cardiff arena gig with Manics, we were invited to the hotel drinks with both bands, we sat up in the hotel bar until 4am drinking, James was sat opposite me. I was dumbstruck! Their keyboard player Nick then gave us his hotel room as he was going back to Bristol and he didn't want us schlepping across Cardiff in the wee hours.
Fast forward to today, I am going to the Butlins Shiiine On Weekender this weekend going with two of my best friends, we were all Manic pen pals as teens, we are all 41 now and not only do we see Manics every year together (even though we live in different parts of the country) but we also have been on holiday together, see other bands together, festivals, attended each others weddings.
Oh and Holy Bible is my favourite album, they did go a bit middle of the road and mainstream after Richey went missing, but they still write amazing tunes and I've seen them play live, wait for it....
49 times!
I never get bored of seeing them or hearing them.
