They just are. Have these guys ever done anything wrong? Anything less than brilliant? Righteous searingly articulate rock with feeling. I love them. All of them.

Always found it really sad about the missing band member

Thereisnotheoryofeverything · 14/09/2018 00:42

Aornis I was fuming at the time. They did some good songs though. Agree about A Town Called Malice - it's fucking art, that song. Languid yeah I don't know that they can ever get past that. It was utterly shocking at the time even for fans but for people who were as close as they were ... I've seen them a few times since and I always feel like he's there - not in a woo way - I think they carry him with them; I don't know how they'd not.

Aaaand here are my people!

My favourite album wavers between Generation Terrorists and the criminally underrated Gold Against the Soul.

And when I marry Nicky I will truly be Princess Wire 😆

AllesAusLiebe · 14/09/2018 02:44

How did I miss this thread?! YANBU at all, OP, I love the manics. 💜 When I first moved to the UK, I was in a band and we used to soundcheck to Archives of Pain. 🤘

I’m more of a metalhead so do prefer the earlier stuff, but they’re one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.

I always think that they are very underrated and I don’t understand why.

LadyCassandra · 14/09/2018 04:41

[whispers] I prefer the Stereophonics Grin

Limpshade · 14/09/2018 05:14

YABU They lost me when they carped on about being "the first Welsh band in Cuba" Grin. Design for Life is great though.

ShackUp · 14/09/2018 05:42

I have a bit of a thing about The Holy Bible.

I've moved on from indie schmindie though, I'm not a teenager any more Grin

ShackUp · 14/09/2018 05:44

The best Welsh band are the Super Furries. I won't mention Shakey.

Unfinishedkitchen · 14/09/2018 05:54

YABsooooooU. The MSP are probably the dullest band in the world. When their dirge comes on the radio it gets switched straight off. Surely everyone can see all of it since Design for Life sounds the same?

It’s always a boring guitar riff then the lead singer shouting about an injustice. It’s like they’ve pigeonholed themselves into being the voice of the angry working class man and can’t diversify their sound.

BelfastBloke · 14/09/2018 06:13

"So Come on Ramsey
Lets set the world alight
When Gareth Bale plays
We can beat any side
So come on Wales
So come on Wales
With Ashley Williams
We can win any fight

Chrissy Coleman, Gunter, Chester
Hennessey, Allen, King and Collins
Davis, Ledley, Taylor, Richards
Hal Robson Kanu"

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 14/09/2018 06:19

No, they’re whiny and awful and sound like they wet the bed a lot. DP is not allowed to play them when I’m in the house. Einstürzende Neubauten - now there’s a decent band! Or Franz Ferdinand!

36degrees · 14/09/2018 06:21

When Jason Donovan and Rick Astley were guests with Kylie the other night I couldn't stop myself getting annoyed at the missed opportunity for a Some Kind of Bliss duet. I like to think that it definitely happened and I just didn't hear about it.

2018Already · 14/09/2018 06:26

YANBU. I always assume ‘they must be shit these days’ then they bang out an album like Futurology and you have to keep paying attention.

nowifi · 14/09/2018 06:27

shackup yes! The Super Furry Animals will always be the best welsh band!

CaveMaman · 14/09/2018 06:37

YANBU, they are fab.

'If you tolerate this then your children will be next', seems quite prophetic these days, to me anyway.

Love 90s bands - Pulp, Blur, Suede, Manics, Ash etc. Makes me feel young to listen to them now, like I'm a teenager again, getting off with boys behind the bike sheds and hiding cigarettes in my glasses case. Fun times!!!

MissusGeneHunt · 14/09/2018 06:39

YANBU OP... Good call!!

Although Cold Chisel provide a photo finish on this debate...!!

OraangeSoda · 14/09/2018 06:41

YANBU. They are my favourite band ever!!! Grin

showmeahero · 14/09/2018 06:41

Nooooooooo way! Sorry Op! His voice on the new track is awful, whiney, screechy mediocre dad rock Halo

cheesefield · 14/09/2018 06:45

Manics were my first ever mosh pit, age 15. I lost a shoe and got hit by a bottle of piss.

Pinkyponkcustard · 14/09/2018 06:49

Ah cheesefield! Memories eh

cheesefield · 14/09/2018 06:51

Yeah. I feel old even thinking about it. V festival Chelmsford 1998.

donquixotedelamancha · 14/09/2018 06:54

Saw MSP live in my youth. Paid a fortune, qued for ages and was a foot from the stage. They were awful- dull and uninterested.

Never been so disappointed by a gig.

Pinkyponkcustard · 14/09/2018 06:55

Do you know what I think I was at the Leeds v98! I think the verve headlined.

Love the manics op, must dig the holy bible out for the car

RP235 · 14/09/2018 06:57

You are correct. Brilliant live!!

VickieCherry · 14/09/2018 07:02

Yessssss. Although I don't like anything post-Masses Against the Classes (which I've just sung at my cats, complete with screams 😁).

Generation Terrorists and Gold Against the Soul were the best, with a bit of Holy Bible thrown in. Anyone who thinks they're whiny need to listen to something before Design for Life.
