They just are. Have these guys ever done anything wrong? Anything less than brilliant? Righteous searingly articulate rock with feeling. I love them. All of them.

YAdefinatelynotBU. me and DH love them! when we go to see the IL’s in N Wales it’s tradition to listen to Manics all the way. Had ‘you stole the sun from my heart’ for our first dance. it was epic! that’s so outting! 🙊

AncoraAmarena · 14/09/2018 07:06

YABU. The Cure are absolutely and definitely the best band in the world.

ZazMeister · 14/09/2018 07:08

Did anyone go to any of the Holy Bible gigs a couple of years back?

Homestly they were fantastic.

I've met James a few times and he was always lush as they say; the Holy Bible revisited gig at Manchester was awesome.

I've loved them since I first saw them, with the Dust Brothers at the Astoria before R went missing.

They have always been outstanding.

NoProbLlama78 · 14/09/2018 07:17

They're alright but Foo Fighters are definitely up there.

Rockbird · 14/09/2018 07:21

Nope. Wrong. So so so so many better bands. Can't be arsed to type them but the Jam are right up there.

TammySwansonTwo · 14/09/2018 07:24

They were my favourite band, their first three albums are in my top 5, Everything Must Go is half awesome, half dull for me, and I haven’t been able to get into anything since. It’s not just a Richey thing but I guess it’s a big part of it.

I don’t think you can really say EMG was a return to their previous form - each of the first three albums is so different stylistically.

To my sadness I’ve never seen them live - my (slightly older) friends bought me a ticket to see them when Everything Must Go came out and my mum wouldn’t let me go (in fairness to her it was the other end of the country). Another time I had tickets to see them very locally and my mum booked us all a holiday abroad for the same week - I was about 14, I was not happy.

Someone mentioned Muse being the best band they’ve seen live - only saw them once and they weren’t great on that occasion. Portishead was probably the best gig I went to, Suede were pretty amazing too.

AlliKaneErikson · 14/09/2018 07:48

I love them! Have seen them live a number of times. I sometimes see Nicky Wire walking the dog!!

samanthajonespr · 14/09/2018 08:11

@ZazMeister I was at the Albert Hall Holy Bible gig. Absolutely blistering, best gig I've ever been to, and was on the balcony within about 10 feet of The Wire.
They truly are the best band in the world, OP

ProfessorMoody · 14/09/2018 08:12

There's always one on every thread who has to be insulting isn't there? How on earth can you sound like you "wet the bed" and what a fucking horrible thing to say.

Anyway, I feel that Gold Against the Soul is such an underrated album. It's one of my faves. I'm from Cardiff and was obsessed when Richie went missing. I used to hang around outside Whitchurch Hospital as a teenager in case he tried to readmit himself. It's closed now - really spooky place.

I used to see Nicky Wire all the time in Cardiff, he seemed to go to John Menzies regularly! Also saw Kelly Jones a few times - he's teeny.

TheMendedDrum · 14/09/2018 08:13

I've never understood the point of the Manics. So earnest and so dull.

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/09/2018 08:15

My favourite album wavers between Generation Terrorists and the criminally underrated Gold Against the Soul.

Yes!!! I could have written this.

Parts of Everything Must Go are wonderful, but nothing since then has captured my interest. Gen Terr and Gold Against the Soul were the soundtracks of my teenage years. Therapy? too!

ManicGirl · 14/09/2018 08:29

When I married my DH he accepted that it would be to have and to hold, to attend all Manics gigs, for richer for poorer. If anyone needs convincing, see them live. They are unbelievable.

bsbabas · 14/09/2018 08:29

Try some def leppard or Michael McDonalds new album. Better still disturbed's new album.

BarryTheKestrel · 14/09/2018 08:37

@cheesefield I get the feeling I know you! Not many people have a 'lost a shoe at a manics gig' story.

ZazMeister · 14/09/2018 08:53

I was at the Albert Hall Holy Bible gig. Absolutely blistering, best gig I've ever been to, and was on the balcony within about 10 feet of The Wire.

Wasn't it? We were on the balcony as well, such a great venue and the sound was cracking.

I loved the second half when it was just banging out all the classics.

My OH wasn't a Manics fan and he said it was like a religious experience. It totally was.

AlliKaneErikson · 14/09/2018 09:27

Agree with Gold Agaist the Soul being amazing- it’s my favourite album, I reckon. Have seen the Manics a number of times, including the Millennium 2000 gig in cardiff. We were staying near Lorient last month when they played at the festival there but it was a bit late to take DC.

VickieCherry · 14/09/2018 09:31

I went to I've of the Roundhouse Holy Bible gigs. It was brilliant.

I saw them years ago and they weren't really on it - I got the impression they didn't want to be there and was very disappointed. But the Holy Bible gig was magical.

BillywigSting · 14/09/2018 09:31

I used to think they were very good, but not someone I would pay see live.

Then I saw them supporting the foo fighters and was totally blown away.

They were electric. I'd live on beans on toast for a year to go and see them again.

All their records seemed to sound different (better) after seeing them live too.

I don't know if they are the very best but they are probably top 5

LucheroTena · 14/09/2018 09:33

Early stuff was good. Until they became a ‘Dad band’.

LoisEinhorn · 14/09/2018 09:40

No that would be Depeche Mode

MycatsaPirate · 14/09/2018 09:43

yadnbu! love them!

Went to see them in Glasgow in 1997 and no one wanted to go with me so I went on my own. Had an amazing night.

There is nothing better than driving with their music turned right up.

havingabadhairday · 14/09/2018 09:46

I used to see James a lot on my way to work. He has the most lovely eyes.

The Manics were good. Patchy now, some stuff good, some pretty meh.

YouBetterWORK · 14/09/2018 09:47

DH is a massive fan, I'm a middling one. Took him as a suprise to the 02 gig they did a few years ago where they played all the singles which was amazing. Also went to the Cardiff castle one in 2015, also not bad, a lot of people standing around quaffing wine and yapping through the whole thing though! It was also the same night one direction played Cardiff, we were the only people going to see the Manics in the hotel Grin

Also saw them doing the Everything Must Go tour in Swansea, and the long ass walk back to the hotel because getting a taxi was nigh on impossible!

MycatsaPirate · 14/09/2018 09:48

And Everlasting, Black Dog and Everything must go and probably my three favourite tracks. Although You stole the Sun is also up there.

Just love them.

No one else get's it in my family. I am the sole MSP lover.

leghairdontcare · 14/09/2018 09:52

Hello! Yes absolutely. They'll always be my favourite band.

James is lush. He stalked me for a weird 2 week period in 2009.
