They just are. Have these guys ever done anything wrong? Anything less than brilliant? Righteous searingly articulate rock with feeling. I love them. All of them.

It's very samey to me, not exciting, and my dad listens to it. That's my explanation

FunkyBoldRibenas · 15/09/2018 11:24

Samey Grin

LucyAutumn · 15/09/2018 11:28

Holy Bible is my bible.

Jeanclaudejackety · 15/09/2018 11:29

Don't get why people don't understand some people have different tastes? I'm sure you would think music I listen to itlsnt great, are you a member of this band or something don't know why you're taking it so personally?

PrincessWire · 15/09/2018 11:51

Because some bands inspire a religious-like fervour amongst their fans and MSP are one of them. They're extremely polarising and those of us who are in the cult will defend them till the end!

ProfessorMoody · 15/09/2018 12:33

I think people take it personally for that reason, Jean. Because people all like different things, and that's acceptable, but then the people who like different things come on here and call the thing that they don't like names, or insult the people who like the thing by calling them names.

If you don't like MSP, why come onto a thread and call them names and insult the people who do like them? Why call them bland and boring if you've never listened to them properly, or haven't taken much notice of their (fantastic, political, profound) lyrics? Why set out to hurt people's feelings. It's utterly bizarre and says so much about a person.

FunkyBoldRibenas · 15/09/2018 12:33

Don't get why people don't understand some people have different tastes

Well, can you give some examples of unsamey music so that we can compare?

Dire Straits? Adele?

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 12:33

Why set out to hurt people's feelings. It's utterly bizarre and says so much about a person

It really does.

Jeanclaudejackety · 15/09/2018 12:54

OK I really don't get it then do I, enjoy your cult

dontbesillyhenry · 15/09/2018 12:56

Ha ha Dad music! Wish my dad had such good taste in music!

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 12:57

Don't get why people don't understand some people have different tastes?

When you came onto a thread about a particular band and made disparaging comments about them and those who enjoy their music?

Irony in action.

“Not my thing” would have covered it, without being shitty.

GirlInterruptedOftenByKids · 15/09/2018 13:19

Agree with pps...the manics were the best band in the world. I quite liked Everything Must Go but couldn't stand This is My Truth and a bit meh about everything since then. Generation Terrorists FTW

GoldenPlatitudes · 15/09/2018 13:27

Looooooooovvvvvvve then so much!

MarthasGinYard · 15/09/2018 15:17

'and my dad listens to it.'

That made me chuckle

Good enough reason I guess Grin

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 15:32

I wish my dad was that cool!

Mind you, in his day he went to see Pink Floyd, The Who and Zeppelin so he must have been cool once Grin

HippyChickMama · 15/09/2018 16:28

@FunkyBoldRibenas
*Former james dean bradfirld appreciation society member signing in.

That Sailor Suit tho'.*

I preferred him without it

The Manic Street Preachers are the best band in the world.
Namechangeforhair · 15/09/2018 16:29

His singing voice is awful. so no.

VickieCherry · 15/09/2018 17:15

I can understand people not liking the Manics - I can't stand most dance music yet millions of people love it. But bland? Not for people who like rock music? Please go and listen to some early Manics, you might enjoy it.

babysharksmummy · 15/09/2018 17:24

Manics are awesome, I saw them live a few years ago and they were fantastic.
Oasis are the best band ever though.

Lipsticktraces · 15/09/2018 19:13

YANBU. My favourite band since I was 12 (I’m 40 in December)

I have seen them more times than I can count, my heart is still broken over Richey Edwards.

I would never have met DH if it wasn’t for them. They have shaped my entire life and I can’t quite put into words how much I love them❤️

ForalltheSaints · 15/09/2018 19:31

We have different tastes. I liked the first two albums post Richey Edwards, but felt afterwards they became too pompous for my liking.

The two really talented Welsh bands of that era were (are) the Stereophonics and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

LalaLeona · 15/09/2018 19:50

People saying they are bland haven't heard their early stuff obviously!

ShowOfHands · 15/09/2018 22:22

People saying they are bland haven't heard their early stuff obviously!

My brother was obsessed with them in the 90s, I saw them live several times and interviewed them. I still don't like them particularly. I think they're beige. Other people think they're great. Neither of us is wrong or right.

And I wasn't calling the fans beige btw, just the music. As I said in my first comment, it's funny how we all like different things.

mamaduckbone · 15/09/2018 22:28

I only really love generation terrorists and Motorcycle Emptiness is one of my favourite songs of all time. Saw them when I was about 17 and again last year...made me very tingly and nostalgic and they were still excellent live.

Honeyroar · 15/09/2018 22:33

I was at uni in the 90s, in Wales, going through my most indie/rock phase. I can assure you I've heard plenty of their early stuff. Too much! They just didn't do it for me, I never understood the hype. But there was one, clearly lots of people did like them.
