I have been stalked so extremely sensitive I know to triggers, but some weird stuff happen ed where we just moved to, I don't think detail needed here, but when I went on WiFi I noticed a very close (neighbour) has router name that is myade up of (my email service provider name)+rgay.

I really didn't like the coincidence as my email account provider is not all that commkn and I got it because of all the stuff that was happening with my Hotmail accounts that were hacked.

But I have to see it each time I connect, and I do find it offensive; if not very much more than a little childish!

It's just plain homophobic and offensive (I think)

meh.
Are you gay op? How do you know it's your neighbour's router? If I go onto the nearest connections there are loads.
It wouldn't bother me at all. I do think you sound a bit paranoid, but that is probably understandable.
Could you give a bit of backstory?
Do you think your neighbour is linked to the stalking? Or was the stalking due to your sexuality?
It doesn't seem clear.

Warpdrive · 13/09/2018 21:02

Honestly, I think you’re overreacting. I imagine someone thought they were being funny when they set it up.

SilverHairedCat · 13/09/2018 21:03

If it's a free Internet provider, it's common enough, surely? It doesn't have to be Gmail, yahoo, Hotmail etc. Some people still use AOL era addresses.

MagnaDoodle · 13/09/2018 21:03

“Connect automatically” is your friend.

formerbabe · 13/09/2018 21:03

Sorry I also think you're overreacting

RedneckStumpy · 13/09/2018 21:04

Meh,

Ours used to be “BBC Detetctor van 3”, when we moved it changed to “Hillary’s private email Server”

Sunflowerr · 13/09/2018 21:05

Really?

zwellers · 13/09/2018 21:05

And?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 13/09/2018 21:06

Mine is #notanymoremate

MagnaDoodle · 13/09/2018 21:06

When we lived in a flat we had a neighbour who let their dog pee in the stairwell.

Someone changed their router name thing to “cleanupafteryourdog” which was amusing to me.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 13/09/2018 21:07

If this is true then I think this is more childish than anything else.

I think your neighbour needs to get a life OP.

MaryBerrysChutney · 13/09/2018 21:10

"(my email service provider name)+rgay"

So, something like gmailrgay? Confused

Nothisispatrick · 13/09/2018 21:11

I don’t really understand. Who is the email provider that is not that common? So it says e.g. yahoorgay?

That’s just childish not offensive. And why do you need to see it each time you connect? Surely your devices can just connect automatically when you’re at home.

sexnotgender · 13/09/2018 21:11

You’re overreacting.

Why do you need to reconnect every time?

yellowspottedwellies · 13/09/2018 21:12

Mine is "prettyFlyForAWifi"

Be inventive - set yours to something like "everyonesALittleBitGaySometimes"

PickAChew · 13/09/2018 21:13

Having to keep on manually reconnecting is odd.

jarhead123 · 13/09/2018 21:14

Sorry I'll change it

jarhead123 · 13/09/2018 21:15

butterflysugarbaby · 13/09/2018 21:17

My router name is '2-girls-1-router.'

I would not be offended by your neighbour's router name. I could not give a shit!

You need to get out more @smotheroffive ...

As someone asked you, why are you reconnecting every time?!

TheVanguardSix · 13/09/2018 21:17

It’s not really odd if you turn your WiFi off on your phone (I do this sometimes if my kids are playing games). So when I go back on, although it connects automatically to my network, my neighbours’ networks come up.

But back to the point... OP, it really doesn’t need to be a thing. Don’t let it get to you. Given your history of being stalked, I do understand your heightened awareness and anxiety. Hope you have support for this. Flowers

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 13/09/2018 21:18

It is offensive, even if it's someone's idea of a joke.

It probably isn't purposefully targeted at you, even if you are gay and use that email provider. Some idiot probably just finds it amusing to call things gay.

It's really just a sign that one of your neighbours is a twat.

PhilomenaButterfly · 13/09/2018 21:19

yellowspottedwellies thanks for the earworm.

Muffinbutton · 13/09/2018 21:20

Maybe his name is Mr R Gay?

Bluntness100 · 13/09/2018 21:21

It's just childish, do this in response. 😁

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 21:21

Just to explain the having to connect thing.

We have (due to already mentioned circs), been homeless and only just moved in.

I know that most will have devices all connected to lovely router and never have to go thro this pai , but it doesn't mean I'm weird or its weird that we have to live like this, buying a bit of data here and there and hotspotting is all it is. Continually moving is extremely expensive and options v limited, and possibly facing another move\homelessness.

I see that it's not really perceived as a homophobic thing to publish.

I am grateful for all the replies, and hopefully it'll stop me being paranoid about the coiincidence
