Aibu to take offense at homophobic router name?

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 20:57

I have been stalked so extremely sensitive I know to triggers, but some weird stuff happen ed where we just moved to, I don't think detail needed here, but when I went on WiFi I noticed a very close (neighbour) has router name that is myade up of (my email service provider name)+rgay.

I really didn't like the coincidence as my email account provider is not all that commkn and I got it because of all the stuff that was happening with my Hotmail accounts that were hacked.

But I have to see it each time I connect, and I do find it offensive; if not very much more than a little childish!

It's just plain homophobic and offensive (I think)

Bluntness100 we did that! Well, No2 Police Surveillance Van Grin

Blobfishlady · 13/09/2018 21:23

One of our neighbours had ‘yourcatisatwat’. Both sides had a cat and I could never work out which of the cats was being accused of being a twat. I spent way too much time observing both cats trying to spot twattish behaviour. They both appeared to be fairly normal.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 13/09/2018 21:23

Bluntness100 One of my neighbours' WiFi names is MI5 Surveillance Van.

iamnotanumber10 · 13/09/2018 21:23

I’m gay and I would think that is a complete dick move but no, not offensive exactly. Whoever’s picked that name is immature arse.

chrisinthesun · 13/09/2018 21:23

I am confused OP.

So let's say your name is Dave - does the neighbour's router name say 'Daveisgay' ???

Or does is just say 'BTopenreach-broadband-U-R-GAY?'

MysweetAudrina · 13/09/2018 21:24

I think you are paranoid. It has nothing to do with you. If it said your name and gay then you would be justified in thinking it was something to do with you. The word gay is not offensive. Maybe the owner is gay. Maybe they think they are funny. I think when you start making connections like that you need to look at yourself and your mental health. I don't think it is healthy usual to take something like that personal

Bluntness100 · 13/09/2018 21:25

Yetalk, I'm impressed, I want to do that, 🤣

Op, of course it's not nice, but it's just a bit daft and childish. Don't take offence, I doubt it's aimed at you. Just some twat thought it was funny.

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 21:25

I forgot to say about my personal preferences, not gay, but no-one cares or should whatever way.

SO is YOUR NAME mentioned?

MadameButterface · 13/09/2018 21:28

Someone who lives nesr my dc’s school has called their Virgin Broadband Is Shit

Hats off to that person, i fully concur

Justanotherlurker · 13/09/2018 21:29

Send in a complaint to South Yorkshire complaint, this could be something they need to keep an eye on for evidence gathering!

TheFishInThePot · 13/09/2018 21:30

Agree

MaisyPops · 13/09/2018 21:30

Blobfishlady
Brilliant. Grin
Are you any closer to working out which car is a twat?

chrisinthesun · 13/09/2018 21:30

I'll ask for the THIRD TIME. Hmm

@smotheroffive

Is YOUR NAME mentioned in the neighbor's router name?

Or just the word 'gay?'

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 21:33

I clearly haven't been clear enough for some: see various below
Hotmailrgay
Yahoorgay
Gmailrgay
Pick whichever bit doesn't matter.

Thank you to those who have offered support. Really appreciated.

I can only guess at who's it is,but the arrangement of properties here suggest the closest to me has the strongest signal is a dick, as someone said, is probably pretty childish, is a drug dealer and has acted weird toward us and our visitors. Hanging around, general nosiness, just a bit odd; we just avoid him really and no issue, but i find it offensive use homophobic language where all around can see, and pretty pass\aggressive cos you can't actually say who it actually is. Only guestimate really

picklemepopcorn · 13/09/2018 21:33

Madam Butterface's neighbour spells out why it is offensive though. Gay is being used as an insult in this context I have never ever had Ihateapple as my password, no not me.

That said, it isn't being aimed at you, OP, and you probably don't need to think about it. It's just a heads up that you might not like your neighbours!

Causeimunderyourspell · 13/09/2018 21:34

One of our neighbours' is called 'mingedribble' Envy I think some people must let their bloody teenagers sort the WiFi out

TheFishInThePot · 13/09/2018 21:36

It doesn't say your name, and you are not gay, and you've only just moved in?

I don't think it's about you.

chrisinthesun · 13/09/2018 21:37

Yeah you are being unreasonable obviously. It's got naff-all to do with you what people call their router if you are not personally mentioned in it!

And now the neighbour is a drug dealer?

Drip drip drip.

gamerchick · 13/09/2018 21:37

I'm still not sure what the issue is, are you piggybacking on other people's WiFi and object to the router name of one of them thinking it's personally directed at you?

MipMipMip · 13/09/2018 21:39

Mine is "prettyFlyForAWifi"

Grin
friendlycat · 13/09/2018 21:43

A friend of mine at school her Christian name was Gay. I also know of a supplier with the surname Gay. It could simply be their name!

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 21:43

I wouldn't have issue with any of that corp defamation mentioned, all for free speech an' all that. Virginareshit, etc.
.like I said it used an uncommon email provider and I have been stalked, hence all the moves, so am jittery anyway. It is good to have asked and see the responses as I am trying to keep my big girl knickers on over everything that's happened, and clearly not always successfully!

OP posts:
sanssherif · 13/09/2018 21:44

Im not getting why you are linking any of this to you.
Kindly (i have psychosis) are you mentally well?

Oakmaiden · 13/09/2018 21:47

*And now the neighbour is a drug dealer?

Drip drip drip.*

Nah, she did say in her OP that there was other weird stuff going on with the neighbour, so not really a drip feed. Just a clarification. Or expansion. Or something.
