I have been stalked so extremely sensitive I know to triggers, but some weird stuff happen ed where we just moved to, I don't think detail needed here, but when I went on WiFi I noticed a very close (neighbour) has router name that is myade up of (my email service provider name)+rgay.

I really didn't like the coincidence as my email account provider is not all that commkn and I got it because of all the stuff that was happening with my Hotmail accounts that were hacked.

But I have to see it each time I connect, and I do find it offensive; if not very much more than a little childish!

It's just plain homophobic and offensive (I think)

I don’t understand

Prestonsflowers · 13/09/2018 21:48

I’m sure that it’s not personal.
I hope things improve for you, it can’t be nice having to move around so much and the stalking must have been dreadful

Oakmaiden · 13/09/2018 21:48

Im not getting why you are linking any of this to you.

Well, since she has said she has recently been homeless due to being stalked, I can understand why she is a bit twitchy, can't you?

DontBoreMe · 13/09/2018 21:49

i find it offensive use homophobic language where all around can see

"Gay", despite the best efforts of "well meaning" people everywhere, is still used as an insult by people under 45.

I regularly hear the teens on their way to school using it, I hear it down the pub.

It's not going anywhere soon. If a router name is offending you maybe thicken your skin??

DontBoreMe · 13/09/2018 21:50

Well, since she has said she has recently been homeless due to being stalked, I can understand why she is a bit twitchy, can't you?

There's stalking & there's buying/renting a house, putting "is gay" on the end of the router name & hoping that the target see's it on the first time they have to connect to the web.....

sanssherif · 13/09/2018 21:51

Oak no, because the op isnt gay, and their name hasnt been used, there isnt any evidence of anything.
Op i think its fine.
id have found it funny aged 14

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 21:53

Just to say, the neighbour always was a drug dealer.

Also, as already said, have been stalked so police have markers on our home\phone etx and keep having to move.

I think considering the plight of me and my children some are being less than magnanimous.

OP posts:
smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 21:59

Am bit prickly about it as its calling a less than common email gay.

Some do think it's offensive, most don't, certainly better to ignore it, and best to avoid drawing any conclusions about its coincidence

sanssherif · 13/09/2018 22:00

I hope things get better for you op x

Bluntness100 · 13/09/2018 22:01

Yes, but op it's their router, they obviously have the same service provider as you, it's just someone being immature.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time due to a stalker, but on this one I'd not stress really.

Oakmaiden · 13/09/2018 22:02

sans - oh, I agree with you, but I can also understand why the OP is feeling a bit paranoid.

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 22:05

That makes sense bluntness despite its being uncommon, its their frustration at their own email service which just happens to be the same.

More than a little sick of getting like this because of these experiences.

Thanks, for all helpful comments

Smile I didn't mean that all comments were helpful though

Erm, to be honest I would be far more concerned and offended by the drug dealer thing than the wifi name... pick your battles OP!

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 13/09/2018 22:32

How would they know who your email provider is? By the sounds of it there will be worse to come from the neighbour so I would try to pick your battles.

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 22:33

super-veggie I didn't say I wasn't did I.

I’m a lecturer and our staff Wi-fi at work has been dodgy this week, so I keep having to connect to the student network manually. Today I saw someone’s data hotspot from their phone was called “yourmumsgay”. I am clearly a massive child, but my colleague and I had a good giggle at it. Usually they just say “Alicesiphone” or similar.

SilverHairedCat · 13/09/2018 22:51

I used FBI Surveillance Van for a while. Then passive aggressive Please Stop Smoking Outside My Window. That worked actually.
Now we're on Get Your Own WiFi.

TheFaerieQueene · 13/09/2018 22:56

I really would just forget it OP. It is just a fool who thinks s/he is being clever.

smotheroffive · 13/09/2018 23:01

Before we had to flee our home and neighbours were telling me the ex was outside again watching the other night or whatever, I was sorely tempted to make it something like fuckoffyousicktwunt, but it would only have made things worse and he was able to track our data from outside as it turns out. So you might excuse me a bit of jumpiness around the whole thing.

Thank you Faerie
