I can’t help but see so many posters put others down to make themselves feel better. I had it harder, I’m better than you blah blah blah.

Are these people actually this vile in real life or is it all a keyboard warrior act?

OP posts:
iamnotanumber10 · 13/09/2018 15:43

I thought everyone was om Mumsnet, most mums anyway so i imagine them to be as diverse, good, bad, pretty, plain, interesting, dull, moody, happy, sad and weird as pretty much every human I meet in RL>

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 15:45

One persons thread hijacking argumentative idiot is another’s cogent and tenacious poster

Really? Because all I see is a hijacking argumentative idiots trying to blind people with an extensive and unneccessary vocabulary to try and make out their arguments are not utter rubbish.

It gets incredibly boring and ruins entire threads for people

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 15:45

In rl I don’t know anyone who admits to using mn,doesnt Come up

longwayoff · 13/09/2018 15:45

Incidentally montfleur, 2 degrees do not qualify as 'several'.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 15:48

Ruins you say?really..as opposed to gratuitous use of 😡 😢 ShockHmm I rather read a post then see emojis were someone can’t compose a post

Helmetbymidnight · 13/09/2018 15:51

Its odd that someone with degrees from Exeter and Sussex is that snobby about other universities. Those are not top five.

butterflysugarbaby · 13/09/2018 15:52

@checkingforballoons

I have to be honest, every now and then I’ll come across a poster who owns several homes, has a six figure income, had saved several millions for their retirement by the time they were 25, but had no parental help and waited until they were totally financially secure to have children (which includes being able to afford a full time nanny and cleaner and ANY EVENTUALITY that life throws at them), who is totally incredulous that not everyone has taken these common sense measures, I do wonder if they’re actually sat in a grubby bed sit, surrounded by manky looking cats and chain drinking 25p energy drinks as they bash away at their keyboard. Smile

Yeah all of this LOL! Grin

Also, what pisses me off is how the 'cook from scratch' brigade - who NEVER buy frozen food or ready-meals, (and think people who do, are lazy, sloppy fuckers,) accuse people of being lazy for not cooking from scratch. But then they get a cleaner in to do all their housework and ironing, and a gardener to do the garden. Fucking hypocrites!

I think there probably ARE some well educated people on here who are on good wages, but many are ordinary bored housewives/mothers with an average intelligence, who check their spelling on google, (and as many facts as they can on there too!) before they click 'post.'

I imagine many people to be different in real life than they present themselves on here. Especially as no-one knows who you are. I also reckon the posters that post on here a LOT do not work, even though they say they have high flying mid six figure careers, and an Oxbridge degree, and a husband on the middle six figures, (who has a long commute.

Lydiaatthebarre · 13/09/2018 15:56

I agree with Pamdoo.

Some people like making threads all about themselves, dragging them off topic and being tedious and boring.

Any chance you could stick to the topic of the thread lipstick rather than trying to treat it as a debating contest.?

YeTalkShiteHen · 13/09/2018 15:56

Predictably this thread has become a bunfight Grin

I’m the same in RL as I am on here. Also most people who know I MN in RL know my username, so I don’t hide it.

lynmilne65 · 13/09/2018 15:57

I'm eccentric and weird according to some
However I am a granny 😂

Aspenfrost · 13/09/2018 15:59

Pamdoo

...with an extensive and unneccessary vocabulary...

What on earth is your problem with that? Surely not having a limited vocabulary is a positive thing?

Aspenfrost · 13/09/2018 16:01

If anyone uses “I should of...” i don’t read the rest of the post.

Aspenfrost · 13/09/2018 16:01

I don’t...

butterflysugarbaby · 13/09/2018 16:02

It was never NOT going to turn into a bunfight LOL!

And yeah some people DO get very personal if you say stuff they don't like, and give as good as you get. I have been called an idiot, a bit dim, unhinged, and a CUNT, all in a couple of days this week. For no reason other than they met their match with me.

Says more about them to be honest, that they have to resort to personal insults. And shows they have lost the argument. Smile

Lydiaatthebarre · 13/09/2018 16:03

I think pamdoos point was that lipstick is obfuscating and trying to confuse posters by using long winded sentences while essentially saying nothing, or just repeating herself.

Mrsramsayscat · 13/09/2018 16:04

When people are really rude, hypocritical, class biased, and judge others a great deal, I find their children either grow up full of issues, or with many similarities to them. Part of parenting is about setting an example.

Aspenfrost · 13/09/2018 16:06

Not all of Lipstick’s “sentences” were proper sentences.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/09/2018 16:07

I like language - I enjoy using it, in all its amazing variety, so I consider an extensive vocabulary to be a really good thing. But language is about communication, first and foremost, so if what I write isn’t comprehensible, and doesn’t get my point across clearly, then I have failed - so I do try to make sure what I write says what I want it to.

Aspenfrost · 13/09/2018 16:08

@butterflysugarbaby

For no reason other than they met their match with me.

That is for others to judge

YeTalkShiteHen · 13/09/2018 16:14

Says more about them to be honest, that they have to resort to personal insults. And shows they have lost the argument

Yes! Insults always, always show they’ve lost the argument.

HairyLegs11 · 13/09/2018 16:20

Several degrees (Exeter and Sussex)
"Gender-conforming children."

montFleur I am disgusted by your attitude. Such an educated person, showing such ignorance...such a contradiction.

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 16:23

I think pamdoos point was that lipstick is obfuscating and trying to confuse posters by using long winded sentences while essentially saying nothing, or just repeating herself

It was my point thank you.

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 16:26

But language is about communication, first and foremost, so if what I write isn’t comprehensible, and doesn’t get my point across clearly, then I have failed - so I do try to make sure what I write says what I want it to

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with having an extensive vocabulary if you know how to use it.

funinthesun18 · 13/09/2018 16:40

Cats bum faces when you go in to the ladies toilet with your 7 year old son. They MUST be on MN! Grin

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 17:00

Lydia don’t patrionise or insult folk, mn posters aren’t confused easily & they’re switched on
I do not think my posts are bombastic or confusing.
And it’s peculiar to be berated on linguistic range
And I write same as I talk and I to date have had no complaints,so I’ll continue undeterred
