To wonder what MN posters are like in real life...

I can’t help but see so many posters put others down to make themselves feel better. I had it harder, I’m better than you blah blah blah.

Are these people actually this vile in real life or is it all a keyboard warrior act?

Feminist know your place

easternedge · 13/09/2018 13:54

Are you doing feminism wrong? Not for me to say. Don't think that's even a thing is it? It's just not for me so I avoid those spiteful boards. I think that's fair enough.

ghostyslovesheets · 13/09/2018 13:55

the irony is Blue that she wouldn't!

easternedge · 13/09/2018 13:56

Feminist know your place

Who said this because it certainly wasn't me. Here we go again 🙄

ghostyslovesheets · 13/09/2018 13:57

it was in response to Birds comment about doing feminism wrong really but okay Grin

DebbysMum · 13/09/2018 13:58

@BigChocFrenzy

They should just take in some ironing. Grin

Crystalcherry · 13/09/2018 13:59

Aren't we all a mixed bag? I suppose one gets the image and idea of whom the poster is like from their work status. As a question, as I have done both and been reacted to very differently from being in full time work using childcare and also a sahm through situations where working wasn't financially viable for us. I got horrible comments for either position I was in!! What are your views on either please?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 13/09/2018 14:00

I know ive already replied to the OP

But it does surprise me slightly that these sorts of threads are started

Mumsnet is like the real world...there are some utter twats on here just like in real life. And i think quite often horrible people on here are horrible in real life

DebbysMum · 13/09/2018 14:01

@checkingforballoons

I can only dream of having my very own manky cat. Sad

Mushroomsarehorrible · 13/09/2018 14:10

So many lovely, insightful, helpful and warm people on MN Star

There are also many show offs, know alls, tactless, rude, patronising, goady and classless twats Grin but generally I just feel a bit, I don't know, sorry, for those people. They clearly use MN as way to channel their inner hatred for the world, and unfortunately, they can be as odious as they please, with no repercussions.

They must lead miserable lives Confused

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 14:16

No one needs your sorrow based on how you perceive them or their POV
It is crushingly patronising to heap your pity on someone because you don’t concur
I don’t feel, sorry for anyone on mn,I see it for what it is - a clash of opinion & sensibilities
And of course the I feel sorry for your kids attempt at pithy putdowns

Conserve your energies,no point being vexed about what some random said in mn

Bluelady · 13/09/2018 14:24

I say what I think here and irl. It goes down equally badly in both places at times.

Allycumpooster · 13/09/2018 14:25

Whenever I am in danger of taking mn too seriously I remind myself that my SIL is on here (I don’t know her username) and that alone is enough to steady me Grin.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 13/09/2018 14:30

It depends what I'm responding to. On some threads,I probably come across as nice, others probably think I'm horrible if I don't agree with them. And I'll give as good as I get if I get into a " clash" on here, just as I would in real life.

JynxaSmoochum · 13/09/2018 14:46

Forget MN and AIBU, it's the comments on the local paper that makes me really worry about society in the early 21st century Grin

I'm irreverant in real life too.

powerwalk · 13/09/2018 14:49

Distinctly average?

DontBoreMe · 13/09/2018 14:49

Angry, petty, boring are 3 characteristics that spring to mind for a lot of posters.

Secretive is another because if they were the same in real life they'd get punched in the face a lot.....

Lydiaatthebarre · 13/09/2018 14:53

Lipstick

I have never told a poster that I feel sorry for their children. But when someone is spewing nastiness or bile on here or relentlessly hassling and goading a poster I do find it a bit worrying that they may be responsible for the upbringing of a child.

JacquesHammer · 13/09/2018 14:53

I don't believe there is a typical MN poster.

I do think there are those who like to create a persona for themselves and are particular vehement in ensuring they only stick to that narrative. They like to be well known.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 14:55

Well known on an anonymous forum.thats an oxymoron

lynmilne65 · 13/09/2018 14:55

Well I was brought up in a posh private estate house and now live in a ex council house. Shit happens !

Stupomax · 13/09/2018 14:57

Mushroomsarehorrible - yes, agree with all of that.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 14:58

But the point is Lydia,to you it’s nasty etc which is largely overall subjective.
Clearly to them it’s not,and they may equally be convinced that you’re nasty etc
That’s the mn usp exposure to,and contact with views you may not ordinarily hear

mostdays · 13/09/2018 14:59

Ah, I miss Beanie, she hasn’t been around for ages now!

She's been on reddit a bit- if I can find one of her immediately recognisable posts over there later on I'll post the link.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 15:00

Lyn presumably that life experience has shaped you and influences your POV and behaviour
