This is a particular problem for AIBU but it seems like no one can ask for a simple bit of advice without someone being purposefully negative and downright unhelpful.

I.e I could start a thread saying AIBU to think that celery is disgusting.

One of the first comments would be YABU because some people live under famine and would be grateful for a huge bowl of celery.

OP posts:
themuttsnutts · 13/09/2018 22:00

I hate the culture of aibu. It's the modern equivalent of being pelted with rotten fruit in a talent show.

And what I hate the most is when someone objects to someone being shockingly rude to the op, they say 'well, this is aibu' and it's the same old people in there.

Even if I think the op is quite wrong, I will still be tactful and give them pointers on how to move on.

I do think hq should do something about it because, at the moment, I think they encourage it

themuttsnutts · 13/09/2018 22:02

The other thing I hate is 500 people say aibu and say this must mean op is wrkng and no one should argue the case, whereas I have a mind if my own and often see the majority swallowing a load of crap. Donald Trump wining the election is a case in point

slashlover · 13/09/2018 22:16

OP - I've fallen out with my best friend because of reasons. (other posts will work)
Everyone - YABU!
OP on page 10 - You're right and I've sent an apology text and we're meeting tomorrow.
OP on page 25 - Met up with friend and apologised and everything is fine now, thanks AIBU!
Everyone - That's great OP!

Then loads more posts telling the OP she's being unreasonable because people don't check if the thread has moved on from the OP in 30 pages.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/09/2018 23:24

Well, I'm a completely rational thinker and I hold THE correct views on all possible topics. The only thing I won't tolerate is intolerance.

Therefore, anybody with a slightly differing opinion from me on ANYTHING is undeniably being deliberately goady (most probably specifically targeted at MEEEEEEEE); if they weren't, they'd obviously agree with me.

Have reported everybody who's already posted on this thread (and am keeping records to do the same for all future posters), just to be on the safe side.

MN is seemingly awash with people who literally cannot comprehend that people have a different lifestyle to them. It's ridiculous.

I know I brought it up on the other thread similar to this, but I've seen a lot of pronunciation threads, asking how people pronounce a certain word. Cue the floods of posters who are absolutely adamant that their way of pronouncing the word is the ONLY, CORRECT way and everyone else is WRONG. They completely disregard the fact that there are REGIONAL ACCENTS.
I am not going to touch the foreign word pronunciation threads. All I'm going to say is that foreign countries have regional accents and dialects too. The form of language we learn in school is a very formal, standard style.

Izzygrey · 14/09/2018 06:40

Some people on this website are so unnecessarily negative and spiteful and just cruel. It makes me nervous to post! I always try to image who these people are and if they're as rude and unpleasant in real life.

Izzygrey · 14/09/2018 06:41

*imagine

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/09/2018 06:55

But there's lots of lovely posters Izzy isn't there? Just post what you like!

themuttsnutts · 14/09/2018 11:53

There are. Just a shame a few miscreants spoil it. I definitely think HQ encourage it as it is traffic for their site

Lilyhatesjaz · 14/09/2018 12:11

Celery is really nice dipped in peanut butter

AynRandTheObjectivist · 14/09/2018 12:18

MN is seemingly awash with people who literally cannot comprehend that people have a different lifestyle to them.

To be fair, they are usually quite open about the fact that they have NEVER BEEN ABLE to understand why anyone might like something they don't and absolutely cannot fathom why anyone might feel differently.

KurriKurri · 14/09/2018 12:43

I like (pr rather hate) the total fiction gratitude merchants
OP: I arranged to meet a friend for lunch, she turned up two hours late, threw a milkshake in my face and rubbed her sandwich in my hair. AIBU to be a bit peeved?

Ans. Some friend you are, your friend is obviously having a crisis, for all you know her husband has been probed by aliens, her house taken over by scientologists and her handbag vomited in by Boris Johnson.

Following posters 'FFS, you are so mean, your friend's husband has been probed by aliens, you selfish cow.'

Cheddarsmedders · 14/09/2018 13:40

This might just be me cos I’m a miserable auld caaah but has anyone else noticed posters who mention their DH like he is the Holy Lord himself.

“Just told my DH about this thread and he thinks this is HILARIOUS”

CassandraCross · 14/09/2018 13:55

KurriKurri - spot onGrin. On of the first threads I read on MN (a long time ago) was very similar to that!

Lots of - make her a cup of tea/bake her a cake/give her your car/debit card and PIN - why can't you be compassionate instead of being so selfish and unkind.

So green was I in MN ways that I thought the thread and responses were some kind of 'in joke' and it was all just a wind up, I was disabused of that notion very quickly.

Sammy900 · 14/09/2018 14:48

mmm I love celery I put in everything, soups, casseroles even curry

(annoying optimist here)

doglov3r · 15/09/2018 07:16

We have another one! On the post about the lady being really scared of having an implant removed and having a genuine fear of needles:

Please try to pull yourself together - some of us have to regular ( 3 week for me ) blood tests and injections

Just because this person has to have regular blood tests it means nobody else is allowed to have any issues with needles Hmm

proudestofmums · 15/09/2018 08:12

I enjoy eating raw celery sticks because (well, partly) the noise drives OH mad! (ligh hearted - and for balance the way he sucks boiled sweets drives me mad!)

(hopes for comments about how I’m lucky

  1. To,afford celery
  2. To have teeth
  3. To have an OH
  4. To,have time to eat celery
Cheby · 15/09/2018 08:25

Has this got worse in recent years? I’m not sure if it has or if I’m just completely fatigued with it. Ive even found myself writing much harsher things than I’d normally do, swept along with the tide. Probably time to give up AIBU.

I especially hate when posters pull the top trumps of dead relative, meaning no one else is allowed to be upset by or have an issue with one of their living relatives, no matter how reprehensible their behaviour.

And I hate the way everyone is constantly searching to blame the OP for their situation. It’s like a competition to enforce total self sufficiency and there is no acceptance that some people find some situations difficult and a little help from friends/parents/family is not only normal but it’s ok to expect it sometimes. Because that’s what families and communities do usually, help each other out when things are difficult.

Gardai · 15/09/2018 08:37

It has got worse definitely-perhaps all of us who are sick of it should call the fun sponges/merailers out...but I sometimes get exhausted even reading that shite from those pompous arses. I wonder what they’re like in real life and I wouldn’t like them there either.

Celery, I had a terrible incident when I was 9 with celery. I can’t say as it would be outing but I’m TRIGGERED

CigarsofthePharoahs · 15/09/2018 09:19

Celery is nice in bolognaise.

Almondio · 15/09/2018 09:31

I think it's symptomatic of how (sweeping generalisation here) people are becoming more self-centered and less empathetic, and are unable or unwilling to see things from someone else's perspective.

People seem too ready to spout about themselves rather than step back, put the other person's needs first and consider that they may not be the centre of the universe.

SuckOnTHATRyan · 15/09/2018 09:50

Celery is pretty delicious in bolognese actually.

tillytop · 15/09/2018 10:13

I often wonder if the fun sponging, snarky, bullying posters were originally the school bullies and simply continuing with it on the Internet. But there again, I have met a few ex school bullies in rl who have turned out to be lovely kind adults.

tillytop · 15/09/2018 10:18

Izzygrey (yesterday) never be nervous to post! After all, as I once had pointed out me " you're just some random on the Internet. Why should I listen to you?" Grin Grin

PersisFord · 15/09/2018 11:10

See, I quite like the flavour of celery, but it’s the string. What is celery salt and would it help things?
