To ask how old you were when you were last asked for ID to prove your age?

Hello

I am in my early thirties and yesterday I got asked for ID when purchasing a bottle of wine. I had my hair tied back and no make up on so I know in those instances I can look quite young.

I told my partner about it and he thought it was hilarious, and it made me wonder how old other people have been when they have been asked for ID?

Mid 30's. I miss it now I know I look older. My 23 year old daughter has to take her passport everywhere, she finds it annoying but I tell her she will find it flattering at some point.

33 but it was in the US and they are very strict there. Didn't have my passport or ID on me so had to drink coke all night.

@kiltedsheep

It was my bloody party! I went to Morrison’s instead. Smile

I was 40 and had a grey streak in my hair! Hadn't carried ID for years and when I asked to speak to the supervisor she put it through no problem.

DH gets ID'd all the time. He's 35 and as he always says, does not look 21 let alone 17. Overzealous IDing is one of my bugbears.

Dungeondragon15 · 12/09/2018 10:03

Anyone who is flattered about being asked in the US should think again. I have been asked a lot there but never in the UK. I'm in 50s so clearly look nowhere near under 21 or 25.

I doubt that many of those in their 30s who are asked actually look younger. I remember just IDing people more because of the way they dressed rather than anything else. You don't really want to stare at their faces and asking for ID is less hassle.

puffyisgood · 12/09/2018 10:08

something like 39-41, i forget exactly, but honestly i think it was demanded more as an excuse to deny entry to a group who the doorstaff thought might cramp the style of a mostly young and glamorous clientele.

So I had to trail all the way back to my hotel room on the umpteenth floor to retrieve my sodding passport to prove to this kid that I was old enough to buy beer. Had I wanted to purchase a gun I’m sure it would have been fine....

Nope, you would have had to produce ID for that, and they would have run a background check on you, which you would have failed.

It was July 2015, I was 37.

I know this as l had bought several bottles of mini prosecco for teacher gifts for my daughters end of primary presents for her teachers. I had bought some the day before but needed 1 more so went back and was refused. I was so annoyed as they had inconvenienced me. I drove home, got my driving license, drove back, parked up, went back in, selected another bottle, queued at the same till with DL in hand and... beep! Yep, she served me without asking for ID. I was livid!

RomanyRoots · 12/09/2018 19:17

I was 22 and buying fags and booze, long before you had to look 25 Grin. I put the booze down as didn't have ID, they refused to sell my fags, too.
Had to go and get dh my partner, back then to get them for me.
yes, I'm talking about the old Budgens/ co - op In Diss, Suffolk. The one next to the lake. It was 30 years ago though Grin

I do look really young though, like childlike features.
