To ask how old you were when you were last asked for ID to prove your age?

Hello

I am in my early thirties and yesterday I got asked for ID when purchasing a bottle of wine. I had my hair tied back and no make up on so I know in those instances I can look quite young.

I told my partner about it and he thought it was hilarious, and it made me wonder how old other people have been when they have been asked for ID?

Buying wine in Waitrose over the summer. I’m 37 and was delighted.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 11/09/2018 17:10

Asked if I had an adult ticket on a train.
I was 24 and pregnant with my fourth dc...

exexpat · 11/09/2018 17:10

I have never been asked to prove my age, ever.

I'm 50, and started going to pubs when I was about 15 (with friends in their 20s) but everything was much more laid-back in those days.

CircleofWillis · 11/09/2018 17:11

46 I still get ID’d quite frequently although it is tailing off a bit to a couple of times a month. I’m quite small with a baby round face.

randomchap · 11/09/2018 17:11

Last week, 41.

For a pair of safety scissors that I was buy DD for crafting.

NewGrandad · 11/09/2018 17:13

Undercoverbanana · 11/09/2018 17:14

exexpat - thank you. I thought I was alone there.

ElectricCandlelight · 11/09/2018 17:15

Yesterday, I'm 31. It was for a scratch card and I could have hugged the lady I was that happy, I thanked her. I stopped getting asked regularly at about 26.

  1. Best one was when I was 33 I think And got id’d by the ocado delivery driver as I had one bottle of wine in the order!
keely79 · 11/09/2018 17:16

39 - couple of months ago - asked if I had my ID when entering a bar. Nearly kissed the bouncer in gratitude!!

Faerie87 · 11/09/2018 17:17

I thought they Asked for ID for everyone in America too! I went to Florida about 8 years ago with my ex and they asked his gran for ID to prove her age and she was in her early eighties!

@Faerie87 I worked in supermarkets for 9 years and you wouldn't believe the number of people that say 'I have a child with me so I must be over 18'. It could be anyone's child or your younger sibling. Also had people try to use a 16th birthday necklace as ID! The rule is that it must be photo ID or shop assistant can be fined personally. Sadly I haven't been asked in about 6 years (when I was 29) and I don't often wear make up during he day, so I really must look over 25!!!! Grin

Copperbonnet · 11/09/2018 17:18

I’m in my forties and live in the USA.

They ask everyone if you are buying alcohol regardless of how old you look.

My MIL (71) was outraged to be asked to prove her age last time she visited us.

Watto1 · 11/09/2018 17:19
  1. The Sainsbury's delivery driver insisted on seeing ID before he would hand over my wine!
ambereeree · 11/09/2018 17:19

At 35 trying to buy wine. The guy in checkout said i didn't look that old... Errr thanks for that. He didn't believe the ID was mine and messed up my dinner party plans.

DarthLipgloss · 11/09/2018 17:22

45 lol but was in group of 22 yr olds and blended In from a very long distance...it was in an ALDI. Dp is 34 and was ID'd in a different ALDI this year. He is great big bearded bloke with long greying hair...

NoProbLlama78 · 11/09/2018 17:23

I was 38 buying knives. I didnt have to show it though I just laughed and pointed out the vegetables that needed to be chopped. Baby brain was causing me to throw knives away with peelings at the time.
I also get asked regularly by people at the door if my mum/dad are in. I'm 39 now. I tell them that I'm the mum round here Grin

KnitFastDieWarm · 11/09/2018 17:23

I’m 31 and I get IDed all the time. I think I look ok for 31 but rough as fuck for 17 Grin

Faerie87 · 11/09/2018 17:23

@highlandteajenny - that’s understandable, I just seemed to be asked less when I have DD with me. The other day was the first time I was asked when I had my little one with me.

I’m not sure if I should be flattered because it might just be because I looked rough yesterday lol xx

My husband was asked in Lidl recently.... he's 36 with a full on bearded face!
He was quite indignant when they refused to serve him so he walked out, leaving all the shopping on the conveyor belt!

I found it quite hilarious how annoyed he was.

I went back a few days later to re do the shopping..... I was NOT asked for ID! 😡

Dungeondragon15 · 11/09/2018 17:25

Never in the UK. It wasn't taken that seriously when I was younger (I'm in 50s) and you wouldn't be asked unless there was a pretty good chance you were under 18.

MoorMummy · 11/09/2018 17:28

A few months ago, when buying Pink gin and beer at my local supermarket . I’m 47! I didn’t have any ID on me either and the young girl wasn’t budging! She said ‘well my sister is 25 and you look younger than her’. Luckily I realised my NUS card has DOB on, though she told me sternly to ‘bring proper ID’ next time. 😂

I'm 30, and a Few months ago for a lottery ticket! Sold me emulsion & gloss but no lottery for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

RiverTam · 11/09/2018 17:30

35 or 36,I was buying booze in a supermarket in London. The (very young) man had the grace to blush when he checked my driving licence.

I wasn’t particularly flattered at the time (the people I was with though it hilarious) but from the age of 47 I certainly am as there’s not a chance now!

(FWIW I have, until recently, always looked very young for my age.)
