To ask how old you were when you were last asked for ID to prove your age?

Hello

I am in my early thirties and yesterday I got asked for ID when purchasing a bottle of wine. I had my hair tied back and no make up on so I know in those instances I can look quite young.

I told my partner about it and he thought it was hilarious, and it made me wonder how old other people have been when they have been asked for ID?

About 29 I think. Had to pop home to get id, all the way dp was mortified that they thought he was dating someone who wasn't old enough to drink (he was 34).

stressedoutpa · 11/09/2018 18:35

35.... buying wine in Tesco. Older woman on checkout asked for ID and I asked if I looked younger than 18 so then she asked me if I 'was only 18'.

Had everyone at work laughing when I got back to the office.

  1. Ocado delivery man. I laughed in his face before realising he was serious.
ShotsFired · 11/09/2018 18:37

Late 30s when buying a stanley knife.

I think he took my nectar card as proof!

Fluffyears · 11/09/2018 18:38

PrtScn · 11/09/2018 18:40

38 😂

nancy75 · 11/09/2018 18:40

43, god knows what the man was thinking, he either needs glasses or he felt sorry for me ( especially as I’m probably old enough to be his mum)

19lottie82 · 11/09/2018 18:41

I’m 36 and still get asked for ID in Asda at least 25% of the time.

Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 11/09/2018 18:44

About 20, I’ve lived in the same town since I was 12 and there are only about 500 people living here, and I rarely buy age related products.

I think 36 or 37 whilst trying to buy a couple of ciders from co-op, had to leave them as had no idea. I always used to look very young for my age the best one was when I was on holiday in Amsterdam when I was 26 went to an art gallery and got in for free as children don't need to pay! My friends thought it was hilarious although my partner was slightly concerned what they thought he was doing with a child!
Also on another holiday although a bit younger probably 23 I got asked by customs where my parents were!

42, happiest day of my life!

fleshmarketclose · 11/09/2018 18:48

When I was 24 , more than 25 years ago. DD now 25 is asked most weeks but my son has never been asked apart from once in Ladbrokes aged 17 by a new assistant. The boss said to her "Oh don't ask him he's a regular been coming in years Hmm"

WonderTweek · 11/09/2018 18:49

I get ID’d constantly and I’m 33. It’s ridiculous especially if I have my toddler with me. 😂

I was refused a lighter at 28 which I thought was funny, and also ID’d for razor blades and when I was 25. And a scratch card when I was about 27. Haha.

Snoopychildminder · 11/09/2018 18:51

I haven’t been asked for ID in years and years, (I am 30) maybe the last time I was asked for ID was when I was 21...I don’t think I look old Hmm

Foodylicious · 11/09/2018 18:52

36

Eastie77 · 11/09/2018 19:00

I was out with a friend who is the same age as me and someone assumed she was my mum. We were 33 when this happened. She has previously been mistaken for her husband's mum and he is actually older than her.

Anyway I was last asked for ID 2 days ago and I am almost 40.

  1. On holiday in Florida. Asked for ID when I ordered a gin and tonic in a restaurant. I laughed as my 14 and 12 year old dc’s were sitting next to me . I said it would be worrying if I was under 21 given the ages of my children pointing at them. I got my gin and tonic but took my passport with me after that just in case.
Storminateapot · 11/09/2018 19:26

Hilariously the other week in Waitrose. I'm 51 😂

SeriousAlligator · 11/09/2018 19:26

Twice in one week a couple of weeks ago. I'm 36.

legolimb · 11/09/2018 19:26

Never in the UK.

I'm old though and like a previous poster had been drinking in pubs and clubs since 14.. Grin

I Was on a flight home from the usa aged 21 and was asked then. That was the only time.

catherinedevalois · 11/09/2018 19:26
  1. A couple of weeks ago buying a box of liqueurs. The check-out operator kept a straight face for nearly a minute then we both burst out laughing.
Cranberri · 11/09/2018 19:27

I still get asked (27). My dad was asked 5 years ago and he is 53!

MrsStrowman · 11/09/2018 19:28

A few weeks ago 34, also got ID'd buying a kitchen knife in a supermarket last summer

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 11/09/2018 19:28

37, but the shop assistant had learning difficulties and I think she asked everyone. She asked another lady who was probably 20 years older than me.

Melanippe · 11/09/2018 19:29
  1. I didn't have any ID on me either, so the bottle of champagne went back on the shelf. I think the cashier realised he'd gaffed, but once he'd asked, I had to provide proof and couldn't. No one died. (I am always told I look about 20 years younger than I am, can't see it myself)
