To ask how old you were when you were last asked for ID to prove your age?

Hello

I am in my early thirties and yesterday I got asked for ID when purchasing a bottle of wine. I had my hair tied back and no make up on so I know in those instances I can look quite young.

I told my partner about it and he thought it was hilarious, and it made me wonder how old other people have been when they have been asked for ID?

40, four years ago, my sister had to buy the Champaign instead!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 11/09/2018 17:30

Oh no, I tell a lie, I threw a fit when age 20 at a bar in Toronto.

MustBeThin · 11/09/2018 17:30

I'm 29 next month and get asked for ID every week when I do the food shop and buy alcohol.

strawberrypenguin · 11/09/2018 17:30

Last month - I'm 34

Mummyh2016 · 11/09/2018 17:30

A couple of weeks ago I got id’d for a bottle of Shandy in Morrisons. I’m 29. I thought the assistant was joking!! She said well it does contain alcohol. Yes it does, it’s less than 0.5%. Red wine cooking sauce probably contains more and you would’ve ID me for that Hmm

DragonBone · 11/09/2018 17:31

I'm 41years old and was refused service in Iceland store for a bottle of wine ! I didn't have my drivers license on me to prove otherwise lol
I was really annoyed and left in a huff ! I had my 18yr old daughter with me as well

Hoppinggreen · 11/09/2018 17:32

About 13 (it’s the boobs)

ButchyRestingFace · 11/09/2018 17:32

Age 37, in a bar (challenge 25). After the doormen let me through without a 2nd glance.

Barman went a deep and unflattering shade of red when he saw the DoB. Like, “oh, so sorry, GRANDMA.”

nimfly · 11/09/2018 17:33

22, happens all the time.

Best one was when I got asked for ID when buying cold and flu medicine a few months ago (think you have to be over 16?). I was mortified!

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 11/09/2018 17:38

@Copperbonnet

I’m in my forties and live in the USA. They ask everyone if you are buying alcohol regardless of how old you look. My MIL (71) was outraged to be asked to prove her age last time

I wonder if it's a legal requirement in certain states, but not all, because they definitely don't always ask on the East Coast? I was trumpeting about my recent experience being ID'ed on another thread because it was unusual and gratifying Smile. The only people I regularly see ID'ed are students (several colleges around here).

Faerie87 · 11/09/2018 17:40

The worst one I got was when I was about 24 I was buying Bridget Jones Diary and I was asked, it was a 15 movie!

The women at the counter also scrutinised my driving licence like it was a fake :-(

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 11/09/2018 17:42

A 15 movie - I love it!

abacucat · 11/09/2018 17:45

40s, but I read that shop assistants have to ask so many people and often ask middle aged women for ID as they are the only group that don't tend to kick up a fuss about being asked. No way did I look under 18.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 11/09/2018 17:45

In July. I'm 37 and it was getting into a club. They refused our entire party of 35-45 year olds because we weren't carrying drivers licences or passports which apparently needed to be scanned for security!

belleandsnowwhite · 11/09/2018 17:45

36 a few months ago. I had no id and had my alcohol taken off me by a store manager.

Sorry10 · 11/09/2018 17:47

39 in Morrisons , I think the staff get confused as they say are you under 25 ? and I say seriously !!!
My husband finds it hilarious . I'm told I don't look my age maybe pass for mid thirty's. Smile

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 11/09/2018 17:52

Sadly, not for quite a while (but I am nearly 50). The Tesco checkout assistants on the Scan as you Shop bit press the 'customer is CLEARLY over 25' button way too fast for my liking.

Greyhound22 · 11/09/2018 17:52

Was asked for ID a couple of weeks ago buying a bottle of prosecco. I'm nearly 38.

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2018 18:25

I'm 50, and started going to pubs when I was about 15 (with friends in their 20s) but everything was much more laid-back in those days.
Ah those were the days, half-price fares but still got served in the pub Grin

theSnuffster · 11/09/2018 18:27

I'd guess around 27. I'm 30 now. To be fair I rarely buy alcohol etc so it just doesn't come up.

HardAsSnails · 11/09/2018 18:28

48, and I look older, a few weeks ago I had to show an amazon driver my passport to get a parcel labelled 18+ (vaping kit).

HappyEverIftar · 11/09/2018 18:28

37 and 1 month back in June. I was with my mum in Morrisons buying wine Blush Grin

Think my mum was more flattered than me!

CaveMaman · 11/09/2018 18:28
  1. I thanked the shop assistant while handing over my drivers license. Best time it happened was on my 30th birthday, when I was feeling a bit sad about being "old".
SnapFartJudgement · 11/09/2018 18:30

Probably about 33 for alcohol - before I was pregnant and had DD. I have a few more wrinkles and grey hairs now, three years later.

I got ID'd for paracetamol (minimum age 16) when I was 30. I was trying to buy it for a headache so I was literally like a bear with a sore head when the assistant wouldn't sell it to me. The manager came over and basically told her not to be so silly. (The shop was near the City and everyone in there was an adult on their lunch break.)

user1471453601 · 11/09/2018 18:33

I'm so old i can't remember when (if) I was carded. But, and I think she might win this one, my DD was carded two years ago when she was 46.

I wish I could say she takes after me, but I'm afraid she doesn't. She just looked v v young for her age. It was the bain of her life through university. Now she thinks it's a hoot. And twice she has been referred to as her partners daughter. Partner is four years older than her☺
