To ask you where and when your waters broke?

Posting for traffic.
I'm coming up to 37 weeks pregnant with my first and have (finally!) started my antenatal classes. We had a long discussion about waters breaking and how it can be a big gush or a slow drip, and it can happen anywhere and everywhere.
I'm thinking about putting down some puppy training pads under my bed sheet as our mattress is only two month old and I'm worried about it getting ruined!
WIBU to ask all you lovely mums when and where your waters broke? And what was it like?
Thanks Smile

Hi. Mine broke at 39 weeks...When I was blowing my nose! Inhad a very bad cold and was steaming my sinuses and when I blew my nose my waters went. Not a big gush but enough to be certain. I didn't go into labour and had to be induced. Good luck! I am also anxiously awaiting birth in next few weeks so looking for all the signs.

AngelofTheSilence · 11/09/2018 10:02

Mine were broken by the midwife with dc 2 & 3 but dc 1, I felt (and heard) them pop in bed but I managed to make it to the bathroom before they actually started leaking Confused

SnuggyBuggy · 11/09/2018 10:02

Woke up in the middle of the night with it literally flooding out of me. I was sleeping in the spare room and TBH it's made me really not like going in that room. We are going to redecorate it as a nursery.

Oysterbabe · 11/09/2018 10:03

In bed both times. Waters breaking was the first sign of labour for me.

AngelofTheSilence · 11/09/2018 10:04

Forgot to say I was 38 weeks and started contracting about 2 hours later. Whole thing was 12 hours from waters going to holding dd

SWMWAFC · 11/09/2018 10:04

My waters never broke both times. My first was born in her sac and the 2nd was poped by my midwife during labour.

LadyKyliePonsonbyFarquhar · 11/09/2018 10:04

I was sitting on the sofa watching television, not doing anything strenuous. It was enough to soak my knickers but didn't touch the sofa.

PrivateDoor · 11/09/2018 10:04

It is pretty unusual for your waters to break before labour starts but of course it does happen! There is no harm in being prepared, your idea sounds good!

Mine always broke towards the end of labour, so in hospital. I am a mw and recently had someone whose went in Clarks when school shoe shopping!

Twickerhun · 11/09/2018 10:05

Baby 1 in bed, I woke up and realised they were going and kept out of bed and just got to the toilet. It was a major gush!
Baby two they broke when the midwife shoved something up there and poked around a lot.

SWMWAFC · 11/09/2018 10:05

Oh I was 40+1 and 40+16.

Tonytonymacaroni · 11/09/2018 10:05

First daughter- in bed, 3am, quite a lot came out before I managed to get out of bed and I was so glad I had a mattress protector (on the advice of a friend!) Second daughter- in the bath but had I stayed on the sofa a five minutes more it would have happened there. I would definitely get the puppy pads!

SuckOnTHATRyan · 11/09/2018 10:05

In bed at home on the morning when I was due to be induced, (two weeks overdue).

Homemadearmy · 11/09/2018 10:06

They only went with one of mine, I was in bed and felt a trickle, got up and they went with a whoosh. A mattress protector is a good idea if your mattress is new

Scoleah · 11/09/2018 10:08

DC1- Woke up for a Wee early Hours, and went as I sat back on the Bed

DC 2- induced, had waters broken and was born minutes later

lpchill · 11/09/2018 10:08

It was New Year's Eve 2 weeks before I was due. Put loads of frozen food in the oven to cook to celebrate New Years preggo style (stuffing face watching tv) suddenly felt very off so laid down in bed with my husband while food was cooking. In bed for 5 minutes then sit up " um either I have weed myself and I'm still weeing or my water just broke" go to the loo yep still leaking. Call hospital they tell me to come in. Unhappy/ happy preggo

Treaclepie19 · 11/09/2018 10:08

I was 37+2 and woke up to go to the toilet.
Thought I was weeing for a very long time :p
It just carried on trickling for aaaaages.

CluedoAddict · 11/09/2018 10:08

On my sofa at 37 weeks. I had been home half an hour after having my hair coloured at the hairdressers. It was meconium so we had to have the sofa dry cleaned after.

mostdays · 11/09/2018 10:10

Ds1- I was in hospital for induction, I'd had a pessary about 14/15 hours before, went to the loo and my water broke immediately followed by a full on contraction.
Ds2- water didn't break, he was born in the caul and as his body emerged so did the water.
Ds3- sort of broke just before labour, but not full on and just leaky. The rest came out when his body emerged.

I have to say ds2's was the least painful and easiest birth and I wonder whether that cushion of membrane and water helped with that!

Lana1234 · 11/09/2018 10:11

Broken by the midwife at the hospital (I was 12 days over due when I went into labour). I was 5cm dialeted when I went in and things weren’t progressing after quite a while so they popped them. Didn’t feel a thing but I was also drugged up at the time

Yokohamajojo · 11/09/2018 10:11

First one in the hospital so all fine, second one at home in bed at 37 weeks, and that was a massive gush! Went into hospital and in the end had to have an emergency CS but all fine! He is now 9

Babdoc · 11/09/2018 10:11

Ha, this brought back memories!
DH and I were having a last romantic weekend together at 39 weeks, before DD was due the following weekend.
We were enthusiastically having sex when DD1 decided she would arrive a week early and ruin the ambience - I felt the pop and just managed to leap out of bed in time for a litre of amniotic fluid to pour out. Thankfully into the bucket I’d put beside the bed when feeling queasy the night before!
OP, I would definitely fit a mattress protector of some kind, in case yours also go while you’re in bed.
And have plastic sheeting and towels for your car passenger seat to protect the upholstery en route to hospital. Good luck!

LottieLou90 · 11/09/2018 10:13

Hi OP
With my DD6 they broke them in the hospital, I just remember hearing them slosh onto the floor and feeling less pressure ‘down there’
I gave birth to my DS 4 weeks ago and my waters broke as soon as I got into the delivery room in the hospital.

I was standing up and felt warm fluid running down my leg, like a slow tap, went to the toilet and then the rest of it gushed (hate that word!) out.
I remember hoping when I was around 36/37 weeks that I didn’t want it happening in the car as we had bought it only a few months before, although the closer I got to my due date I didn’t care where or when they broke I just wanted to meet him Smile plus I was hot and bothered with the heat we had!

Drizz · 11/09/2018 10:13

During dinner one day at 40+3, DS 1 arrived a mere 36 hours later. It was unmistakable, no massive gush but I was grateful I was on a wooden chair on the lino instead of on the couch. I can't remember when with DD and with DS2 the midwife broke mine to hurry the final stage of labour and 15 minutes later he was on my belly.

MissTeye · 11/09/2018 10:14

I remember feeling like this at around 37/38 weeks. I had just finished up on mat leave and was a bit worried about leaving the house in case it happened in public. I brought a big towel with me everywhere! Turns out I needn't have worried as I went to 42 weeks and then got induced. They broke my waters for me while I was lying on the bed and they gushed everywhere! Soaked the bed and the floor!

MaggieSimpsonsPacifier · 11/09/2018 10:15

With a long needle as part of an induction. Not fun - hopefully you will have a nice easy time of it!
